00:00Dr. Liang, you wrote an article at the time of Donald Trump's inauguration saying that Trump's Trade War 2.0 could be a strategic gift to China.
00:10Now, based on the past couple of weeks, have your predictions come true? And if so, in what way?
00:16Yeah, so that's a very good question. You have to be held accountable for what you have written, right?
00:21So I think China's response has been very clear that they will have the tip of attack. They will not tolerate the aggressive moves by Donald Trump.
00:31They will stand up against bully and they will protect their own economy with policy measures.
00:37So I think it is a strategic gift in the sense that this will allow China and enable China to really rethink how to structure its economy going forward, how to rely more on domestic demand, especially consumer demand.
00:52So I think that is a strategic gift in that direction.
00:55And then last but not the least, as some people put it, Trump is basically handing the world to China now on a silver plate in the sense that, you know, it completely uproot the previous very unfair, unjust global trading system and his alliancehip with the traditional what he called France, right?
01:12The Western European economies, Canada, Mexico, and so on and so forth.
01:16And so I think in the sense it is a gift to China to rewrite and to reshape the global order in a better, a more just, a more fair way.
