00:00The High Court in Kuala Lumpur was informed on Thursday that former Goldman Sachs banker Roger Ng will be interviewed by Datuk Shri Najib Razak's legal team in connection with the ongoing one Malaysia Development Berhad 1MDB trial.
00:17Najib's lead counsel, Tan Sri Muhammad Shafi Abdullah, told trial judge Datuk Colin Lawrence Sequeira that the defense intends to question Ng before deciding whether to call him as a witness.
00:30This development followed a request from Deputy Public Prosecutor Kamal Baharin Omar, who asked the court for a specific date for Ng's potential court appearance, should he be required to testify.
00:42In 2023, Inspector General of Police Tan Sri Razakuddin Hussein confirmed that Ng had returned to Malaysia to assist in investigations into the 1MDB scandal.
00:54Ng, who was convicted in New York for his role in facilitating the misappropriation of $1 million in funds, faces a 10-year prison sentence and is slated to be extradited to the United States to face additional charges.
01:09On October 30 last year, Justice Sequeira ordered Najib to enter his defense after ruling that the prosecution had established a prima facie case against him.
01:1971-year-old Najib faces 25 charges, including four counts of abusing his position to accept 2.3 billion ringgit in bribes from 1MDB funds and 21 charges of money laundering involving the same amount.
