00:00My plan coming in here was to get food as soon as possible.
00:24There we go.
00:26It was just so close, you know.
00:32Meanwhile, we're just out here eating worms.
00:36Cheers.
00:38That creek is my source of food.
00:40Route number three.
00:42I think I have everything set.
00:44I'm switching on to surviving out here for as long as I can.
00:47Thank you, Tasmania.
00:50I don't have a plan for how I'm going to feed myself and survive.
00:54Trees and space.
00:56Are you okay with me coming to live here?
00:58I'm not a warrior.
01:00I'm a worm hunter.
01:02I was expecting the fishing to be a bit easier.
01:06There were sump-sumps of wallabies all around me.
01:10I think this might work.
01:12So I'm going to try and catch a wallaby.
01:14Yay!
01:16I just went and do wee and had this weird bone.
01:22The doctor wants to come and check and I'm worried.
01:26I'm hoping that's not enough to take me out.
01:28I'm hoping that's not enough to take me out.
01:30I'm hoping I will take you out.
01:32I will try and catch up.
01:34I can't do it.
01:36I could do it.
01:38I will try and hide it.
01:40I can't do it.
01:42Do you want to try and try to get here?
01:44Are these simple in the land?
01:46Are these little things?
01:48Do you want me to take the back of the wall?
01:50When you passed urine, is it still burned?
02:14Yeah, yeah.
02:15Just tell me, is that uncomfortable anywhere I'm pushing?
02:18Is that tender?
02:20Yeah.
02:21That's tender there?
02:22Yeah.
02:23I so hope this UTI thing goes away, clears up.
02:27Because I don't want to go yet.
02:29I'm not ready.
02:31I think I'm fine.
02:33Slip your jacket back on.
02:35Yeah, yeah.
02:37I'm just going to head back outside.
02:39Yeah.
02:40Can we come back and speak to you in a minute?
02:41Alright.
02:47I'll be back in a second, Cale.
02:48Yeah, yeah.
02:57She's got pain where you'd expect it with the UTI.
03:01Most concerningly, is on her abdominal exam, and the pain, particularly on the right side,
03:08up high there, could represent an infection that's spread to her kidneys.
03:14I'm trying to read their lips.
03:15Um, examining you this morning, I have concerns that you've got an infection.
03:27Alright, alright.
03:28And that infection is not going to get better here, and that we need to get you to the right
03:45place to make sure we manage that appropriately and safely.
03:48Yep.
03:49You're not safe to continue.
03:50Okay.
03:51I'm sorry about that.
03:52That's okay.
03:53That's shit homework to do, yeah?
03:54Oh, damn.
03:55Fuck.
03:56Yeah.
03:57Not ready to go.
03:58Yeah.
03:59Sucks.
04:00Yep.
04:01I promise my wife I'll come back.
04:05So, yep, I'll do that.
04:06Important promise to keep.
04:07Yep.
04:08What a journey.
04:09What a journey.
04:10What a journey.
04:12I promise my wife I'll come back, so yeah, I will do that.
04:24Important promise to keep.
04:29What a journey, what a journey.
04:35I'm gutted that it's ended.
04:48I feel like I just got started pretty much, yeah.
04:53Got such a big supply of fish in the creek up there.
04:56I was warm and dry and I thought I had it, thought I had it.
05:04Dad was there the whole time.
05:06He was the eagles in the sky leading me to the creek.
05:11He was always saying, you know, just keep going.
05:14Just keep trying.
05:18Being out there for 19 days has given me a greater appreciation
05:22of my own life than I already have.
05:25I thank my wife for her support and encouragement
05:29because I wouldn't have done this without it.
05:32I am so looking forward to the next adventure that we're going to go on together.
05:40Now my time is up.
05:41I hope that I have inspired so many people, regardless of age, gender,
05:47sexuality, abilities.
05:49Can't do this shit.
05:51You just put your mind to it and go for it and you don't really lose until you actually quit trying.
05:57Coming out of this now, leaving this land, I didn't quit trying so I didn't lose at all.
06:03You just made it up.
06:05Keep going.
06:06I'll be back.
06:07You'll be back.
06:08You're back.
06:09You're back.
06:12You're back.
06:14I'm back.
06:16Yeah, see him there, kind of like a little flea I guess, you know, you know if you want
06:45to really dress it up. It's like a baby prawn and it tastes all right.
07:07Another day. I guess I'll mark it on the bomb. What's that? 19 days. If I'm being honest,
07:19I'm feeling a bit worried about the lack of food we've managed to get. We're just sort
07:29of living on foraging and worms. I'm getting minerals from the plants I'm eating. I know
07:40I'm getting protein from the worms but it's just a game of how much, you know. I really
07:48need something to start working. Anyway, I'm going to go check the wallaby trout as I've
07:58done for the last, I don't know, 10 days. More than that I think. Maybe the last couple
08:07of weeks. When we first got here, it felt like we had plenty of opportunity, you know. There
08:16was lots of possum shit around, lots of wallaby shit, and that's all gone. No fresh wallaby
08:23shit I've seen here for ages. You know, there's nothing in there. Just the way we left it.
08:36We'll have a look at the trail camera anyway and see if the wallabies have been doing anything.
08:46Oh, there's something. What is that? Oh, it's a tizzy devil. Jeez, he's almost going in the track.
09:01Shit, he didn't set it off.
09:06Look at a mack and his territory all through there. Bastard, that's been putting everything off.
09:13So I might have a little play with that trigger tension, because he should have set that off.
09:25Pretty stuck looking animal. It's kind of good that he just went in there. So, that's a good thing, I guess.
09:34Man, it looks pretty fine to me. Never expected it to be easy. Be a fool to expect that.
09:44I don't know how much finer I can make it, but I'll do my best. It's certainly harder than I thought it would be, though.
09:53It's way harder in terms of getting food.
09:56Probably been a little bit complacent, really, and just thinking I know how to get food back home easily.
10:06But I can't do it here. Not so far. So I'm living on a starvation diet. There's no two ways about it.
10:16I know I'm not going to win the starving competition out here, that's for sure.
10:23And I really want to stay out here as long as I need to, you know?
10:28This is such a huge opportunity, and it's also a big sacrifice that I'm making and my family's making.
10:36And financially, you know, if I'm spending that time away from work, there's also that to consider.
10:47It's been my job to trap possums for the last 14 years.
10:52Now that I've got a young family, I've got a few other jobs that I do to try and make a bit more money and be at home a bit more.
11:01We live on a rural block out in the country. We pretty much live on wild meat that we harvest.
11:09We forage a lot of wild greenery as well.
11:13Yeah, so winning the money is the main goal.
11:17It would take a lot of pressure off us to get to where we want to get to.
11:25There's a big motivation for me to stay out here.
11:29And basically what that hinges on is me getting food, you know?
11:36The more of it, the better.
11:38Just hanging out for a win at this point, you know?
11:47I found this most beautiful piece of wood.
12:08It's a cup.
12:10I think it's going to make a great cup if I can carve it out a little bit.
12:14Look at that though. Isn't that beautiful? Or a horn.
12:17It's not to believe I've been here three weeks already.
12:35All right. I'm ready.
12:37I'm like three weeks since not that long ago and a long time ago.
12:44I guess I actually haven't stopped yet.
12:47Like I feel like I've just been constantly on the go figuring things out.
12:52Figuring out the shelter, figuring out food, figuring out fishing.
12:58I'm not eating much and what I am eating is just plant food and hopefully down the track protein.
13:13Now, yesterday I discovered these roots taste kind of like cucumber.
13:24They're really sweet.
13:26So far this land has just been so kind of open to me using its resources
13:33and I really get a sense that it wants me to be here
13:36and that it's actually happy being recognised for its abundance.
13:43I must say I'm absolutely loving it here.
13:46The only little hiccup, and it's a big hiccup actually,
13:49is that I haven't caught anything to eat.
13:51So hopefully this beautiful darling land will provide me soon.
13:58The wind has turned to the northwest and it's grey and it's cold and the water has risen a fair bit.
14:17The water has well and truly risen and this wind might stay for a while and rain and the lake might really rise.
14:24So I've got to go and bring my rods up to higher ground.
14:31The little peninsula has got a fair bit of water coming at it.
14:38All right, one.
14:39Across we go again.
14:40Before it's cut off.
14:41Stop.
14:42I'm a weather witch.
14:43I said stop.
14:45I'm a weather witch.
14:46I said stop.
14:48I'm a weather witch.
14:51All right, one, across we go again, before it's cut off, stop, I'm a weather witch, I
15:10said stop, move back, go back behind the mountain, stop, maybe I'm not a weather witch, so I just
15:27tried to control the weather but I feel like I just made it, I kissed it all, but I feel
15:33like I just got up, a whole lot works.
15:47All right, it is wallaby trap day, my little house is now all locked up and I'm going to
15:57trek over to my wallaby site, it's going to be a slow walk, I just walked down to the
16:02lake then to get a drink and I'm tired, and that's like 20 metres.
16:07So yeah, I'm going to take it nice and slow and steady.
16:19I ate my last piece of eel this morning, that eel lasted a whole week.
16:26I've tried fishing here every single day this week and got nothing, I'm really hopeful for
16:30this wallaby.
16:31Really, really hopeful.
16:32There is, there is a wallaby.
16:37Sorry little guy, but you are on the menu.
16:43There's no way a wallaby is going to bust out of that, like I've spent a lot of time here,
16:50I made it really, really super strong, like it's like a prison.
16:53The door's not on just yet, but that's okay, it's probably a good thing even just to build
17:00that trust with the wallaby again, so it can come in here and sniff around and feel no threat.
17:03I'm definitely keen to finish that wallaby trap.
17:08Yeah, I've got to get some protein coming back in.
17:11If I can get that wallaby, I'm set.
17:13Like I can stay out here, like there's nowhere I've got to be, like I could bring this home.
17:18Mentally, I could bring this home.
17:21Two and a half weeks in, now I'm just down to vegetation.
17:28Oh, and I've just found some fiddleheads.
17:33Okay, I don't want to pick too many to start with, because I don't know how my tummy's going to accept them.
17:39You don't get much out of the vegetation.
17:42And I don't enjoy eating it, because it tastes like crap.
17:47I have high hopes for that trap, I really do.
17:51I can already taste a wallaby.
17:55I have arrived at the wallaby trap.
17:58So I have a second trail cam that I want to also set up, but I'm going to check the first one.
18:02Very hopeful.
18:06Please show me something good.
18:08Please show me something good.
18:14Okay, so that's just me.
18:18Are you kidding?
18:20All that's captured is me walking in now.
18:23Nothing.
18:27Bugger.
18:32Anyway.
18:33I'm going to finish it.
18:34I'm going to set it.
18:37I'll walk back in the morning and check it.
18:44And I'll go from there.
18:48Dang.
18:50Dang, dang, dang.
18:55I was feeling a little bit bummed, and it's the first time since being here I've felt a bit bummed.
19:00I've put a lot of time and effort into that trap.
19:02I've burnt a lot of calories.
19:04Okay, so the idea is this slams shut, but now I need something to keep it shut.
19:15So I'm going to have two posts that come down here, and then I'm going to have a weight.
19:21So when the trigger goes, this slams shut.
19:27All right, now I need a proper paracord.
19:30There's strong stuff.
19:31Small stuff.
19:34I mean, the carriage looks terrifying.
19:36If I was an animal, I wouldn't be going anywhere frickin' near it.
19:40Might put some plants around it.
19:45That door's not even close to holding.
19:48I don't bring enough paracord.
19:51Fuck.
19:52I don't even have to redoing the door.
19:58So I'm a bit frustrated.
19:59I had a sneaky suspicion I had made the door too heavy.
20:03And I have.
20:05I don't have the patience today, and that weather sounds like it's turning nasty.
20:09That wind is roaring.
20:12Fuck yeah, I've got to get back to camp.
20:15That wind is wild.
20:17Leave it for today.
20:20Come back baby tomorrow.
20:23And play around with it.
20:25Yeah, I've got to go.
20:26This is getting bad.
20:46Yeah.
21:11Looking all right.
21:13Good enough.
21:14Okay.
21:16Let's do it.
21:18Let's go fishing.
21:22I didn't sleep that well last night.
21:23I was so cold.
21:25It was proper cold.
21:29And today I just...
21:31I'm feeling flat.
21:33Just feeling a bit lethargic.
21:37Each day that goes by, bringing in food becomes a higher and higher priority.
21:40Every day you're not bringing in food, there's a countdown ticking.
21:45And who knows how much time is left on it?
21:49How many days?
21:51Point is, when you bring in food, you hit pause on that timer and you increase your chances of really going deep.
21:59When I woke up, I don't know, early out of the morning, fishing plans were going through my head.
22:11Cool.
22:13That'll work well.
22:14Let's try a little bit of paracord.
22:18This will serve two purposes.
22:20One, I'm going to loop my line through it and that'll allow me to still fish from a hand line primarily when I'm casting it.
22:29So trip it, just have it attached to here as a visual indicator for some bounce and some spring.
22:38And two, I'll be able to see it a lot more easily from camp with this bright coloured paracord on the end.
22:45Oh, beautiful!
22:51Beautiful!
22:54I feel like I'm more likely to get a bite.
22:57Having that like that, it's more like a set up at home, I guess.
23:01Just waiting for a tug on that line.
23:04I say the best way to make God laugh is to tell him your plans for the future.
23:14Ever since I was 12 or 13, I really wanted to play AFL football.
23:19That was my goal.
23:21Here I am.
23:23I went through the ranks for my local country team and did well there,
23:27and then went through the ranks right up to the semi-professional level.
23:31I got to play in a SANFL grand final in front of 20-plus thousand people
23:37and winning premiership for the Eagles and it was amazing.
23:41This is my most special one.
23:44Can I win?
23:46This is our premiership one and every single one of my teammates signed this.
23:50I had quite a few AFL clubs that were kind of interested in me.
23:55I did my knee and that wrecked my chances.
23:58I got really close but I didn't quite get there.
24:00That was really disappointing for a few years there,
24:03particularly when so many of my friends got drafted into that system.
24:08I've learnt a lot of lessons through playing league football.
24:12Primarily, things aren't always going to go to plan.
24:15We can't let the setbacks and difficulties define ourselves.
24:20You know, staying positive is a choice and that's how I live my life.
24:23Well, no fish this morning but really happy with that system.
24:33And from my shelter I can poke my head out.
24:36And I can see the rod tip. I can see that bright orange paracord.
24:43And that is potentially a game changer.
24:46Ooh!
24:47Ooh!
24:48Ooh!
24:49That could be some movement.
24:50That could be some movement of the rod.
24:51Could be some movement.
24:52Definitely gave a couple of jerks I reckon.
24:56Well, yeah, that line's unspauling. That line's unspauling. It is go time. It is go time. I reckon I could be on here. I could be on.
25:18I could be on.
25:27A little jab.
25:37Well, yeah, that line's unspauling. That line's unspauling. It is go time.
25:42Come on.
25:47A little jab.
25:56What the heck?
26:01Get stuffed.
26:04Come on.
26:10Kitten.
26:12Jack of this fishing spot.
26:15Every spot I've found has been snaggy.
26:19I want to just keep a bait in the water.
26:34Lost.
26:36The lot.
26:37Keep trying to not give up.
26:52Courage does not always roar.
26:54Sometimes courage is the quiet voice that says, I will try again to my own.
27:06Yeah.
27:08I really like that.
27:10It applies really well to this experience.
27:14Yeah.
27:16Just watch that. We're on deck for a little while.
27:19Yeah, the setbacks with the fishing.
27:22Highs and lows.
27:24But it's just about trying again.
27:25It's just about trying again.
27:26We're running in.
27:27Good to see.
27:28Good to see you.
27:29Good to see you.
27:30Good to see you.
27:31All right, your skin.
27:59When this challenge is over, I'm going to try a few of these things at home and just see if I was just super hungry or...
28:07No, they do actually date me.
28:19The lake is rising at a rapid rate.
28:22Just here, just put past the pad in that water.
28:26There was nothing in that bay when I first, 20 days ago.
28:32So it's often going to take long because it's quite low to join up with that over there and cut this whole island off here.
28:39Another week, I reckon, if it keeps rising like it is, another week I won't be able to get out to that.
28:47Won't be long before this is all gone.
28:51That's really going to cut down on the fishing options.
28:54I'm bloody thriving because, you know, I've got plenty of food.
29:03But if this lake floods to its full capacity, I'm trapped on an island with fucking nothing.
29:11So I've got to go for it while I can and try and cure as much food as possible.
29:18While it's dead calm and I've seen a couple of rises, I'm going to head out here and see if I can sit quietly by the bank and get one close.
29:30Put a worm on and then flicked an unweighted worm out to it.
29:38Jeez, that's cold.
29:41I guess you've got a bit of all that snow up there.
29:45Oh, hands in pockets trying to warm up.
29:51Oh, there's one in close just there.
29:55He's really going to town chasing something.
29:58Can't get over it. The lake's coming up so fast.
30:07The next month is meant to be the wettest month.
30:11So I reckon it'll be continuing to rise at the rate it's going and maybe even faster.
30:19The river's roaring over there today.
30:21You know, with Google and all the information in the world, there's not much an old bloke can pass on anymore.
30:32Yep, there he is again, just there.
30:37You can watch it and do it and YouTube the shit out of it, but until you come out and do this, it ain't the same.
30:44You've got to be out of here doing it, feeling it.
30:49A bit of praise come up, man.
30:50Yeah, it's tough for the father wanting to pass your knowledge on sometimes and thinking about me wife and daughter and the grandies.
31:02They're wonderful little kids. Hopefully they can come out and do this with me one day.
31:08Show them a few things.
31:09Show them a few things.
31:11Just there.
31:13I saw you.
31:15Oh, yeah. Here we go.
31:30How many shoes can I cast that far?
31:37You're right there.
31:40There we go.
31:44Surely you'll see that.
32:02Shit.
32:04We're on.
32:07We're tangled.
32:08We've got to cut him off.
32:10I lost him.
32:14No.
32:15Woo-hoo.
32:26Well, he's not big.
32:28We were successful.
32:29I do feel like I've been kissed on the deck by a fairie.
32:37Just when I think I'm going to run out of food, I'll get a little fish or another eel.
32:41Not big, but at least they give me some guts for eel fishing.
32:50And that's the first brown trout. See? No spots on the tail.
32:55There's another three days of food in the bank.
32:58And the bank.
32:59Got him hanging up there.
33:04So that's better than poking the oil.
33:06It's a blunt stick, isn't it?
33:07No.
33:08No.
33:09No.
33:13Okay.
33:15No.
33:17No.
33:19No.
33:21No.
33:22Oh, my God.
33:52I was just hanging in my shelter and I started to feel really sick.
33:57And I wondered if it was just the smoke from my fireplace.
34:00So I came outside and I sort of sat out here and had fresh air for a little while.
34:05This morning I ate a bunch of fiddleheads and then the sausage and now it's all just
34:09come up.
34:14Do you not feel good at all?
34:44So I've just thrown up a second time.
34:53The first time it was a sausage that came up and the second time it was all the fiddleheads
34:57that I ate this morning.
34:58I knew those fiddleheads were not good.
35:04Something that tastes so bitter like that can't be good for you.
35:12I feel like I could show up again, but I can't keep any water down.
35:22That's me done.
35:23No more fiddleheads.
35:24It's just annoying because now I don't want to eat the fiddleheads or the sausage again.
35:30So that's two food sauces down.
35:38It's just like it's protein or nothing for me.
35:43And my stomach just feels really acidic and barley and gross, like just yuck.
35:49Oh, I don't feel good.
35:51So I've still got a little bit of fat on me.
35:57I am finding it harder and harder to stay warm though with the more weight that I'm losing.
36:01I'll be under 60 kilos now, which is pretty light for me.
36:15Big sick just means that my weight's going to keep dropping off me until I can get some
36:20decent protein and the fishing just ain't happening.
36:23My tummy's making all kinds of noises.
36:30Right now I've got no lines in the water, I've got no bait.
36:34Losing a little bit of motivation I guess too, which is shit.
36:41Not my favourite day.
36:41I don't think I'm done tearing up yet, I think there's still more.
36:50No one feels like doing much when they feel sick, I need to not be so hard on myself.
36:54Something I'm very good at being is hard on myself.
37:01Stuck in my throat.
37:03Normally, if something goes wrong in my life, I just shut down, I'm like, no, I can't.
37:08Just walk away.
37:09I'm not very good at giving myself a break.
37:14I'm not very good at giving myself a break.
37:22Alone Australia, powered by Kia, it's the ultimate human endurance challenge.
37:28The battle is on to survive alone in the rugged Tasmanian wilderness, with the winner taking
37:33home a prize worth $250,000.
37:44Oh, it's kept warm, got to soak up that vitamin D.
38:04I had a dream last night, everything that had happened so far out here, was a dream.
38:14I was like, oh, thank God, I'm glad I get to start over, because that's a rough three
38:25weeks.
38:26Then I wake up and I realise, oh no, that is the three weeks I've had.
38:34So yeah, that was disappointing.
38:41Not the start I planned, you know, but it's kind of hard to shake off these boots back on,
38:56off into the shady forest where I know there's some worms waiting for us.
39:04With the worms and the, like the daily maintenance food we're getting.
39:11See what's inside.
39:16Two worms, three worms.
39:19It's not particularly appetising.
39:22It's more sort of necessity.
39:26That's another little morsel.
39:31Just a tiny little thing, I wish they were bigger.
39:35I wish they were like hoo-hoo grubs.
39:38I'd be bloody frothing over those right now.
39:45I was thinking before, I wonder what my family are going to say when I tell them I lived on
39:51worms and bracken for the first three weeks.
39:57It's not through lack of trying.
40:04We've got our trap set.
40:07Just want that bloody Tasmanian devil to bugger all.
40:10Hopefully he already has and everything's going to start coming back.
40:16But in the meantime, I've kind of got a predicament really because I've got to kind of think
40:31how much energy should I be spending every day when I'm not bringing in fish or big animals, you know.
40:44How much energy should I be spending when I'm just eating worms and foraged plant foods?
40:58I just don't know.
41:02Don't know how much I should be doing.
41:05How passive should I get?
41:08I already feel like I'm being pretty passive.
41:11I'm not doing a hell of a lot, but I am still walking around in the bush looking for possum dens, foraging, doing all that stuff every day.
41:26And is the trade all worth it, I guess?
41:31I'm kind of feeling like that's a giving up day.
41:38So, I'm sitting here, whittling away, minding my own business, when little leech!
42:07Crawling up my leg.
42:11He's after my blood.
42:16Um, too small for bait.
42:18Not going to eat it.
42:20Sorry leech, you're just going to die.
42:23I'm out of soup.
42:35I finished it this morning.
42:36And I want more.
42:38I'll dig for some grubs and some worms, so that I have some protein to put in my soup today.
42:45I wonder there's a shortcut through the bush.
42:49Shortcuts are never shortcuts, are they?
42:53Foraging has been a success, and it will get me by.
42:58Something's been digging here.
43:01I've been seeing a lot of that everywhere.
43:04But it'll be a struggle just to live in those plants alone.
43:07Look at this track.
43:10This is such an obvious track.
43:13And that is currently in use.
43:16This would be a good place for the net trap.
43:20Right along here.
43:22It goes up.
43:23And then there's another track that goes up along that way.
43:27Okay.
43:28I did see heaps of wallaby tracks and fresh droppings.
43:36Look at that.
43:37Fresh poo.
43:39Fresh wallaby poo.
43:44You can see down there, there's grass growing.
43:48This is where the wallabies hang out.
43:50This is where I need to focus my trapping.
43:53Which I don't have any experience in.
43:57Oh, you are so tangled.
44:02I'll just drape nets everywhere and hope that something runs into it.
44:07It's all just winging it, isn't it?
44:11Okay, let's go.
44:14Just winging it until you find out something that works.
44:23Also going to dig up more fern roots for dinner tonight.
44:28I'm confident in my foraging abilities.
44:38There's a good one.
44:40I'm not confident in my ability hunting at all.
44:45I have never killed anything more than a fish.
44:50Also keeping an eye out for worms.
44:53Killing things is something I really struggle with.
44:57And I will do it.
44:58But I've just...
45:00It's gonna be hard.
45:02The worms are good.
45:04Even the most skilled survival specialist has to adapt.
45:11I may leave this one open.
45:14As a poop hole.
45:15It's a poop hole.
45:21Okay.
45:22Ta-da!
45:25Ta-da!
45:38That is the northern wall and door of the shelter thatched.
45:52So much of the weather blows in from the north here, it's blocking out the lion's share
45:58of it, that's for sure.
46:00I think it looks good.
46:02I think it looks good.
46:04Proud of it.
46:05I'm going to take my lions in now.
46:08I really don't feel like going out and doing that, but that is what I'm going to do.
46:18It's just a tiny bit of movement on the lion, and it looks like the lion's in a slightly
46:27different position.
46:31You never know.
46:32I don't want to get my hopes up too high, but there's a chance there's something on the
46:38lion.
46:39All right.
46:40Yeah.
46:41My hopes are up.
46:43My hopes are up.
46:46A little bit of weight I think.
46:52Not fighting if it is anything though.
46:58It's an eel.
46:59It's an eel.
47:00It's an eel.
47:01It's an eel.
47:06Get in there, buddy.
47:08Get in there.
47:09Head first.
47:10Quick, quick, quick, quick, quick.
47:15Whoa!
47:16Whoa!
47:17Whoa!
47:18Whoa!
47:19Oh.
47:20Oh, man.
47:21That was such a big head spin.
47:22I honestly nearly just passed out.
47:25Oh!
47:26Yelp!
47:27Yelp!
47:28Yelp!
47:29Yelp!
47:30Thank you, God.
47:33There we go.
47:35Oh, man.
47:36He just slips out like crazy.
47:38There he is.
47:40I got an eel.
47:45How does it feel to get an eel?
47:50And I'm gonna give him a knock on the head.
47:55And then he will be dead.
47:59And then I will be well fed.
48:03I could have been going hungry instead.
48:07But instead, I'm gonna be well fed when I'm in bed.
48:14His head is as flat as a pancake.
48:20Got my net.
48:22Got my net.
48:24And it's full of an eel.
48:27Yes, it is.
48:33To get to day 20 without a run on the board.
48:36And then to get an eel, I don't know.
48:38It's just such a gift.
48:41Whoa.
48:42Still pretty slippery.
48:45For the very first time since I hopped off that boat,
48:50there's been a timer counting down how much my body can handle.
48:56And just now, that timer, the pause button, has hit.
49:03Yeah, I don't know even what the caloric value is.
49:09If it's one or two days food or three days, I've got no idea.
49:13There we go.
49:15Just coming off like a big sock now.
49:21But more than that, it's just confirmation that what I'm doing or working towards is working and can work.
49:32And it's so hopeful.
49:34Yeah, that's just so encouraging.
49:40You know, the meal tomorrow's going to be great.
49:44Celebrate.
49:46So, feeling super blessed, super thankful.
49:49Have a good night.
49:51God bless.
49:53Hope my family's doing amazing.
49:55Love you guys.
49:56Alone Australia, powered by Kia.
50:09It's the ultimate human endurance challenge.
50:12The battle is on to survive alone in the rugged Tasmanian wilderness.
50:16With the winner taking home a prize with $250,000.
50:45It's cold up there.
50:47The sun's just poked out here, and that's nice.
50:52Day 21.
50:55Every seven days, that's a rest day.
50:58So, you can take it easier today.
51:01And, oh, the sun has just popped up behind that...
51:05behind that hill.
51:07Oh, that is lovely.
51:08Yesterday was a good day.
51:09Finished the northern wall, basically, on the shelter.
51:22And caught an eel.
51:24So, today, I'm going to light the fire.
51:30I haven't lit the fire for the best part of a week.
51:34Come on, honey.
51:36Come on.
51:38And cook it up.
51:41Oh, man.
51:42After 21 days, taste some meat.
51:54Oh, and it's right there.
51:56I can pick it up and eat it this second.
52:00It's right there.
52:03It's not swimming around at the bottom of a lake.
52:06It's not hopping around the scrub.
52:08It's in my pot, and it's ready to try.
52:11Get that looking schmick as a rat with a gold tooth.
52:16Let's have a look at this little tail bit.
52:21Give it a try.
52:30Tough for the most fish.
52:33But plenty sweet.
52:36Plenty sweet.
52:41Sun shining on my face.
52:46Sound of running water in that inlet over there.
52:54And the taste of eel in my mouth.
53:04Just savoring it.
53:06What a good day.
53:07What a good day.
53:09What a good day.
53:10What a good day.
53:11I'm slipping into a bit of a routine.
53:15Which isn't a bad thing.
53:17Like, it's not a bad routine.
53:18Throwing a few lines in the water.
53:19Then checking the traps.
53:20Resetting them because of the winds.
53:22Resetting them because of the winds.
53:23Live trapping is hard.
53:24And then checking the traps.
53:25Resetting them because of the winds.
53:26Live trapping is hard.
53:27Unless you're there quickly.
53:28They can find a way to chew on their heads.
53:29And then checking the traps.
53:30And then checking the traps.
53:31And then checking the traps.
53:32And then checking the traps.
53:33Leave trapping is hard.
53:37bad routine. Throwing a few lines in the water then checking the traps, resetting them because
53:44of the winds. Live trapping is hard unless you're there quickly. They can find a way
53:56to chew or dig or claw their way out. I'll check them every day, a couple of times a
54:04day. Okay. I'm out checking the traps and the trap in Wallaby marshland is completely gone.
54:27There's just that string where the trip wire was attached to and everything else is gone.
54:39Which means it worked and there's a Wallaby hopefully still
54:49with the net somewhere. There's the, oh there's the, um, my brain. Um, the wait log.
55:04Here's the Wallaby's upstream.
55:19Oh, there's a cloth.
55:26Oh, there's a cloth.
55:33Oh, this is somewhere it is. I could have all be. Also it's still in the net.
55:41Oh, this is somewhere it is. I could have all be. Also it's still in the net.
55:47Where is it? Where is it? Where is it? Where is it? Where is it? Where is it?
56:14There it is, there it is, can you see it?
56:38Just, just there.
56:40Just there.
56:42Oh my god.
56:44He's tackled up pretty good.
56:48Oh, he's so down. I don't have a rock.
56:52I don't have a rock.
56:54Okay.
57:00That's not a very big rock.
57:02Countdown, count down.
57:06Countdown.
57:08Oh my god.
57:10I don't know.
57:40Get out.
57:44Get, get, get, get, get, get, get.
57:47Stomach is turning.
57:49Oh, I had a drink and I speared it all straight back out.
57:53I know I have to catch a fish.
57:57God for dummer.
57:59I've fucking seen this.
58:01I had a couple of flat days and I wasn't well.
58:05I still don't have any energy.
58:06Like, I'm still just sat.
58:08$250,000?
58:11I might enter this race.
58:12I'm still just sat.
