00:01You have a mass on your ovary.
00:03Is it benign or...?
00:05I don't have any answers yet.
00:07In terms of, like, wait time,
00:09our guidelines say 62 days.
00:11Hey, come on.
00:12I'm just so fed up with having to prove myself down here.
00:15I just want to be able to do my job.
00:16There's an opening for an advanced nurse practitioner.
00:18What do you think?
00:19Yeah.
00:21Good.
00:22All the places I'm looking at, the rent is crazy.
00:25You've got a good job. Don't they pay you properly?
00:28No, so these shifts are part of my course,
00:31so I don't get paid.
00:32The patient you brought in,
00:33she asked me to give this to you.
00:34Yeah.
00:35A woman died, alone, in a corridor.
00:39The patient was your responsibility.
00:41Come on, this isn't on me.
00:42You're fired. Get out.
00:43Have your witch hunt without me.
00:45I quit.
00:58I get knocked down.
00:59When I get up again,
01:01it'll never gonna keep me down.
01:03I get knocked down.
01:04When I get up again,
01:05it'll never gonna keep me down.

01:15it'll never gonna keep me down.
01:16I get knocked down.
01:17When I get up again,
01:18it'll never gonna keep me down.
01:19Are you alright?
01:21Why not?
01:22This is very much a spectator sport.
01:25Ready?
01:26If he's a whiskey drink, he drinks a vodka drink.
01:29If he's a lager drink, he drinks a cider drink.
01:31He sings the songs that remind him of the good times.
01:33He sings the songs that remind him of the better times.
01:36Daddy boy, daddy boy, daddy boy.
01:44I get knocked down, but I get up again.

01:50Daddy boy!

04:18All right, er...
04:193-0-0-6 to control, update on the running call.
04:23Request HEMS support and urgent evacuation ASAP.
04:26We've got an RTC with two male patients,
04:28one with a traumatic amputation to the left arm.
04:31Hiya. Hi, Nick.
04:32I'm Teddy. What's your name?
04:34Drew.
04:35All right, Drew, where's the pain?
04:36I don't know.
04:38Right, we need a line in.
04:39TXA ready. Five of them all, three, please.
04:41What's your name, fella?
04:44Ellis.
04:45All right.
04:46Listen, we're going to stop this bleeding,
04:48then we'll get you some pain relief as soon as we can, all right?
04:54What have you done?
04:56Nicely steady, mate.
04:57Look at me, the calmer you are,
04:58the less blood you're going to lose, all right?
05:00Look at me.
05:01Okay?
05:02Good.
05:03Good, mate.
05:05You don't want any more blood over your nice car, do you?
05:08Stop my car.
05:10Yeah? Whose is it?
05:11He's going to kill us.
05:12Step does.
05:13All right, you two brothers?
05:16Don't tell me this is your first driving lesson.
05:21Alright, mate.
05:23Ellis.
05:24Ellis, stay with me. Ellis.
05:25Ellis, talk to me, mate.
05:28That's it.
05:30That tree's gonna come down.
05:33Nah, we need to get finished up and get out.
05:35We need to immobilise him.
05:36We haven't got time, mate. Let's go.
05:46Hey!
06:00Hey!
06:16We need to be right back, Ellis.
06:17See you, Ben.
06:18We need to be right back.
06:19We need to be right back.
06:20We need to be right back.
06:21Hold on.
06:22Ah!
06:23Alright, stay with me, Ellis.
06:24Hey!
06:40Let me in!
06:41Ian!
06:46Okay, let's go!
06:47Ian!
06:51Go, go, go, go!
07:00Ian?
07:01Indy?
07:02Yeah?
07:03We're all right!
07:11Ian!
07:14Oh, Edie?
07:18Yeah, of course, go ahead.
07:21Oh, wow, all right.
07:24Oh, BD.
07:35Yeah, of course, go ahead.
07:39Oh, wow, all right.
07:41Yeah.
07:42Oh, sorry, my...
07:43Oh, goodness me, my pen's not working.
07:47Yes, so go ahead.
07:48Has it partially come...
07:50No, the whole thing's come off, has it?
07:51All right.
07:52Okay, thank you.
07:53Faith, can you allow the trauma team, please?
07:55We've got a HEMS eight minutes out.
07:57It's trauma case, severed limb.
07:58Sure.
07:59I'll take it.
08:01No, no, it's fine.
08:01You've only just arrived.
08:02There should be another one in from the same RTC by road,
08:05so you can take that one, Hans.
08:06Okay.
08:08How are you doing?
08:09You okay?
08:10No, not really.
08:11Someone smashed my wing mirror outside my flat, on purpose.
08:16Why?
08:16Do you know?
08:17Do you know?
08:17Anyway, I'm just going to put it behind me.
08:19Back on.
08:19Look, I know it's been a bit of a rough start,
08:26but I should be able to get out of here on time.
08:29You want me to pick up fish and chips on the way home?
08:31You know it's when he's parents' evening?
08:34Yep.
08:35Yeah, yeah.
08:35I meant after the parents' evening.
08:38You're coming to parents' evening?
08:39Of course I'm coming to parents' evening.
08:41I can't wait to meet Mrs, uh...
08:43Oh, Mrs. Breard?
08:44Yeah.
08:45I thought it was Mrs. Beard.
08:47I know.
08:48Please don't call her that,
08:50because she is actually quite whiskery.
08:52She sounds lovely.
08:54Yeah, she is actually.
08:55Emily loves her.
08:56Well, then I definitely need to meet her, don't I?
08:58You know you don't have to come tonight, right?
09:01You've taken on this big challenge.
09:03It's going to take some time to get to grips with it.
09:05Claire...
09:05I get it.
09:06Claire, I want to be there, okay?
09:08I took on this job so I could spend more time with you.
09:11And, yes, I appreciate the honour of you.
09:15Do you think I've bitten off more than I could chew this time?
09:17Honestly?
09:19I think you can do whatever you put your mind to.
09:22Just try not to...
09:23Got to go.
09:24Dr. Byron.
09:27Yeah, uh, you appear to have me at a disadvantage.
09:31Anna Mills.
09:33Counselor for Holby West.
09:34Right.
09:35Yes, of course.
09:36Yeah.
09:37How are you doing?
09:39You've forgotten our appointment.
09:41Uh, no.
09:41No.
09:42Not at all.
09:43Good.
09:45Shall we?
09:55Should we give them another two units of FFP,
09:58another two units of packed cells as well, please?
10:01And should we get that TXA infusion up?
10:04Any sign of the surgeons?
10:05Speak of the devil and he shall appear.
10:07Don't be scared.
10:09Good.
10:09Good, good.
10:11Okay, so this is Ellis Garrick.
10:12He was brought about 12 minutes ago by air ambulance and he was passenger in an RTC.
10:17It was a convertible car and he hit his arm outside and they hit a bridge, so there's a traumatic amputation at the elbow and a catastrophic hemorrhage there.
10:26The car then left the road and hit a tree, so we've done a fast scan.
10:29And there's also saying to be free fluid in the abdomen, so I think we can assume intra-abdominal injury.
10:34Okay.
10:36Now, Hem's intubated at the scene.
10:37He's had 100 milligrams of procluronium, 100 milligrams of ketamine.
10:41He's had a gram of TXA.
10:42We've given him two units FFP, four units O-neg, and there's another gram of TXA going up now.
10:48He's had 1.2-comoxic acid.
10:49He's had 500-metronidazole and tetanocinmunococlin.
10:53Georgie, can you get the monitoring on the bed, please, and can you check the R2 cylinder, please?
10:57Okay.
10:57Chasing BP at the moment with blood products.
10:59How are we doing, babe?
11:00I mean, still bleeding through the bandages.
11:03Tornicate time, about 42 minutes at the moment, I think.
11:06Catch all that.
11:07Okay, thank you.
11:08Let's get going.
11:09Okay, portable D-fib.
11:11I was so concerned about the arm, but I reckon we should prioritise the surgery in four-classes afterwards.
11:16Yeah, we'll take it up and then they can review.
11:18Where is the arm?
11:19Is that a bit?
11:19Yeah.
11:20Hi.
11:21Come on.
11:21No one's going to be able to reattach an arm to a dead body.
11:24We have plenty of bandages to stem the bleed on that arm.
11:26Yeah, it's on the bed.
11:27It's not, sorry?
11:28It's on the bed.
11:29So it is.
11:32All right, Keith, I'm going to posture this rapid infuse as soon as you're situated inside.
11:37I've got a chance for a bag, amazing.
11:39Are you done?
11:40Yes.
11:41I see the one to get you started.
11:43Do you know what I mean?
11:44You've got to boss it, mate.
11:51Oh, Keith, grab that.
12:02We're going to need another tourniquet, guys.
12:04Oh, you'll have to hold it.
12:06Okay.
12:06Do you want to really squeeze?
12:10There you go.
12:16Anyone get up to the course on Saturday?
12:19Yes.
12:21How was the 13th?
12:22Don't.
12:23Double bogey.
12:25The greens are still running fast.
12:27Yeah.
12:30How's your new driver?
12:31Beautiful.
12:31Yeah.
12:33Off the 8th tee.
12:34212 yards.
12:36Nice.
12:37Very nice.
12:41Here we go.
12:50Can somebody get the arm, please?
12:57Can someone clean this up?
13:03Okay.
13:04This is the window for viable reattachment of the arm.
13:07After that, we're looking at tissue death.
13:09The plastics won't even think of it until he's hemodynamically stable.
13:12So let's get prepped and get going.
13:13Nurse Amon, okay to scrub in?
13:16Uh, uh, yeah.
13:17Yes.
13:18Good.
13:18I'll open him up and deal with whatever's going on in sight,
13:20but I want you, Sean, to be on the arm.
13:22Get on top of the bleed, debride whatever you can,
13:24and tidy it up.
13:27Through there, and there should be some clean scrubs
13:28and spare threads clogs in the changing room.
13:30Okay.
13:31Cool.
13:31I'm sure people are frustrated.
13:50Yeah, I'm frustrated.
13:52But if you want to speak to somebody,
13:53you should be speaking to the health secretary.
13:54Dr. Byron, I'm a counsellor.
13:57I'm not an MP.
13:58I don't have access to the health secretary.
14:00Well, neither do I.
14:01What I do have is an inbox full of heartbreaking stories
14:04about patients queuing through the night in ambulances
14:07and undignified treatments being meted out in corridors.
14:13Well, believe me, none of us want that, so...
14:16So what are you doing about it?
14:17It took a long time for things to get this bad.
14:23I have been in the post for less than a month.
14:25I understand a lady died in one of your corridors
14:28just a couple of weeks ago.
14:31Gloria Scott?
14:32You were in post then.
14:36Are you trying to kill the patients?
14:41Sorry.
14:45Just a silly joke, Leah.
14:48Um, Siobhan, this is Anna Mills, local counsellor.
14:51And Ms Mills, this is Siobhan McKenzie.
14:54Clinical nurse manager and...
14:56comedian.
14:57I'll let you get on.
15:00I know you have a lot to do.
15:05I really hope we don't have to have this conversation again.
15:21Nurse of mine.
15:23Peter.
15:24Apologies for the rather crude initiation.
15:26Oh, no, it's fine.
15:29Water leaf blue is very much in my job description, so...
15:32Yeah, it's a good attitude.
15:34Now, look, if you have any concerns, do come and talk to me.
15:39Excuse me.
15:46Hey, there she is.
15:48Thought you know what you're letting yourself in for.
15:50Changed your mind about this, yeah?
15:52Nah.
15:53Not at all.
15:54All this system that I'm used to, isn't it?
16:00Thank you, Chris.
16:02I'm just so excited to see everybody's happily ever after.
16:07What, happy ever after?
16:08Coming right up.
16:09Let's hope so, eh?
16:10This is Drew Garrett.
16:12He's got a head laceration and vomited at the scene.
16:15Abdomen's tender, and he's complaining of lower back pain.
16:17We had to perform a rapid extrication due to safety at the scene.
16:20OK, let's, er, do baseball, please.
16:22All right.
16:22Er, BP is 105 over 60.
16:24Er, he's tacky at 110.
16:26Sats are 100 on high flow, and GCS has been 15 throughout.
16:29He's had a gram of IV paracetamol, 10 milligrams of morphine, and four of ondansatron.
16:33Is my brother okay?
16:34He's in Fiat, sir.
16:35He's being looked at.
16:36Look, let's have him across on lift, please.
16:39Ready?
16:39Brace.
16:40Lift.
16:40OK, thank you.
16:42Er, Dylan, you came to do your primary survey?
16:44Yeah, of course, sir.
16:45Good.
16:45It's been a little chuchka, especially.
16:47Did she get a hold of our mum?
16:49She's in Edinburgh.
16:50It's her anniversary.
16:51Yeah, er, we've got the number, so we'll source it.
16:53OK, don't worry.
16:54How we doing?
16:55OK, BP has dropped to 90 over 60.
16:58OK, right.
16:59I think we're looking at intra-abdominal injury, so let's, er, Lamorna, can you call CT and request a PAN scan?
17:05For you being chair of the resource committee, I thought you would have prioritised the ED getting one of the new DFIDs.
17:12The cath lab were absolutely desperate.
17:14Well, you're desperate.
17:16Ours is on its last legs.
17:17The patients won't even make it to the cath lab if they're in VF, and we can't shock them.
17:21Look, I had to balance the books.
17:23The human budget was all that was left.
17:24I've ordered the new equipment.
17:26Until then, we just have to make do.
17:28Look, I'm not telling you how to do your job, OK?
17:31I know it's hard, been there, got the T-shirt, but with respect, there is saving money, and there's compromising patient care.
17:41Can I show you something?
17:42Yeah.
17:45Mr Epping, I have a consultant here who would like to take a look at those pressure sores.
17:54OK.
17:55Hi.
17:56How are you doing?
17:56I'm Dr Byron.
17:57Do you mind if I take a look?
17:58Sure.
18:01Nice custom job you've got going on there.
18:04Can't take any credit, I'm afraid.
18:06My granddaughter's work.
18:08How old is she?
18:09Three.
18:10And she's told me to be very careful because these are her best stickers.
18:14Yeah, I can see.
18:15She's been very generous with them.
18:16Yes.
18:17Well, I don't want to blow my own trumpet, but I am her favourite grandpa.
18:21Do you remember when this was put on?
18:23Last Wednesday, I think.
18:25My appointment at the fracture clinic is supposed to be tomorrow.
18:29Right.
18:30Who put this on?
18:30It doesn't matter who.
18:32He was the young man over there, wasn't he?
18:37Good.
18:38Would you excuse us for a second, please?
18:40Of course.
18:42Maybe the nursing staff need a refresher on basic competencies and bag slabs.
18:46It's cheap plaster.
18:48It dries badly.
18:49It cracks.
18:50This is the result.
18:51That is a grade four pressure ulcer.
18:53He has a raging infection.
18:54It's this close to success.
18:55It's this close to success.
18:56Siobhan, sorry to interrupt.
18:58Sorry to interrupt.
18:59Dr. Seam wrote up 40mg of furosemide for this patient, but she's not responding to the medication.
19:04I'm a bit concerned.
19:05Okay.
19:06You all right, Bridget, love?
19:07Take it nice and steady.
19:08Yeah?
19:09Oh, er...
19:10Excuse me.
19:11Excuse me a minute, love.
19:13The cannula's tissue.
19:14Half of it's on the bed.
19:16I'm so sorry.
19:17I didn't realise...
19:18No, it's not your fault.
19:19Give another 40mg of furosemide, and if she doesn't respond to that, set up a GTN infusion.
19:24For God's sake, change the cannula.
19:28Okay.
19:29The cannulas are just as bad as the plastic.
19:32They are as flimsy as anything, and they won't stay still because the tape that you bought
19:37doesn't stick.
19:39See?
19:40It's rubbish.
19:41Hey, false economy.
19:42We need to go back to the original supplier.
19:45Right, so it's just the coincidence that the two people who have problems were treated
19:50by the same nurse?
19:52Come on.
19:53A bad workman blames his tools.
19:55Yeah.
19:56And, er...
19:57A bad leader blames his team.
20:02Dr. Merson, you care to weigh in on this?
20:07I thought we were taking responsibility when things went wrong.
20:10Not blaming the nurses.
20:12Excuse me.
20:13I'll get that frisamide.
20:14Yeah.
20:15Hold still, Dr. Whiteman.
20:16Sockson, don't be scared.
20:17You're not going to do any damage.
20:18Good.
20:19Eh?
20:20Beg?
20:21Beg?
20:22Weevil.
20:23Eh?
20:24Peg?
20:25Yeah.
20:26Okay.
20:27Or lay down.
20:28Gray.
20:29Do.
20:30Hold still, Dr. Whiteman.
20:31Suckson, don't be scared.
20:32You're not going to do any damage.
20:33Good.
20:34Hey.
20:36Don't be scared.
20:37You're not going to do any damage.
20:41Good.
20:43Hi.
20:46Hi.
20:49Hi.
20:52How are you doing, Dr. Redman?
20:54Almost there.
20:55Hi.
21:01Hey, please.
21:03Yes, thank you, Dr. Piper.
21:04I do have ears.
21:05Hi.
21:06The vessel's a clamp.
21:09And the abdomen is packed.
21:13It should mitigate the loss of volume.
21:17Let's replace his blood volume and correct his coagulopathy.
21:22And see if he stabilizes.
21:26How much longer on the arm, Dr. Redman?
21:3074 minutes.
21:3174 minutes.
21:32Dr. Piper, what do you think?
21:33Can we do it?
21:35Yeah, I think so.
21:39We have hemorrhage control.
21:43Let's give team anaesthetics a chance to catch up, and we'll see what we've got.
21:50Music, please.
21:51And my hands were shaking.
22:07It's not like we knew we were going to it and we could prepare for it.
22:10I think we did brilliantly.
22:10Mm, really?
22:11I mean it.
22:12I'm proud of you.
22:17Oh, I forgot about this.
22:18What is it?
22:19Cam told me to put it up last week.
22:21Erm, look, it's got little tear-off strips like we're in the 90s.
22:25I love him.
22:26Have they got a room going?
22:28Yeah.
22:29Erm, little box room.
22:30Not sure if he'll have any take because it's tiny.
22:32I don't care about that.
22:33Do you have a landlord still not break his hat together?
22:35It's ridiculous.
22:36Yeah, that's what I'm thinking.
22:37I should find somewhere else.
22:38Right.
22:39Well, there you go.
22:40It's quite handy, innit?
22:41Yeah.
22:42Cool.
22:43I'll message him.
22:44Right.
22:45Erm, can you do me a favour, though?
22:46Can you tell him that you found it in the break room?
22:47Cos I forgot to put it up.
22:48Yeah.
22:49Yeah.
22:50Got ya.
22:51Right.
22:52See ya.
22:53See ya.
22:54See ya.
23:23Left and right upper quadrants are dry.
23:38engaglin spleen intact.
23:41Moving on.
23:43Here we go.
23:44Suction.
23:47Here we go. Suction.
23:53Oh, come on, Doctor.
24:03Music down, please.
24:07I can't see what I'm doing. There's more suction.
24:17Music down, please.
24:26Got it.
24:29I'll use a clip.
24:38Good.
24:39Two zero suture, please.
24:41For this.
24:43And then we'll do the repair on the serosal injury.
24:54Call Plastics.
24:56Tell them we're nearly ready for them to have a look at this arm.
24:59The temperature's not coming down, is it? I think we're going to have to admit you till we get on top of this infection.
25:13Stay in.
25:14I'm afraid so.
25:15Is there anyone I can call to bring some stuff in for you?
25:18My daughter.
25:19His daughter's on the system as his next have come.
25:21OK, I'll give her a call.
25:23Cam, could I have a word?
25:24Yeah.
25:25Could you redo that cast while I sort a bed out?
25:28Well, I think maybe someone else should do it.
25:30Like I said before, this wasn't your fault.
25:32You did nothing wrong.
25:39Right.
25:40Mr. Epping.
25:41I'll take this and I'll be right back.
25:42OK?
25:43Oh, no, don't throw it away.
25:48I just need to get this back on you.
25:49Hey, Drew, someone's managed to get in touch with your mum and dad.
25:54Stepdad.
25:55OK, stepdad.
25:56They're getting the next train so they should be here soon.
25:58OK?
26:00Do you think they're angry?
26:01No, I don't think so.
26:03How is Ellis?
26:04I imagine he's still in theatre.
26:07Sorry.
26:08It's OK.
26:11I'm always messing everything up.
26:13Can't do anything right.
26:14No, I'm sure that's not true.
26:15No, it is.
26:16He was helping me pass my driving test before I started uni.
26:21This is how I repay him.
26:23He'll say that as well.
26:24Just try and stay calm, OK?
26:26Look, this was a horrible accident.
26:28It's nobody's fault.
26:31You all right?
26:32Do you want me to?
26:33I don't know if you found something to do.
26:35Where's the pain injury?
26:37I'm just examined.
26:38Your abdomen.
26:40It's all right.
26:43Yeah, OK.
26:44There's rigidity in the abdomen.
26:45Dylan, is that CT report back by any chance?
26:49Yes, it is.
26:50Yes, it is.
26:52Yeah, he's got some intralimum there around the bowel, so he might have ruptured.
26:55OK, thank you.
26:56Right, yeah.
26:57Let's get him on IV, comoxiclav, and we'll do a stat dose of gentamicin.
27:00I'm going to ring surgery as well.
27:02I can do that.
27:03No, no, you're grand.
27:04If you actually review his analgesics, that'd be great.
27:06Thanks.
27:07You're OK.
27:08You're OK.
27:09We'll take care of you.
27:10Please don't tell anyone that I'm using this, OK?
27:11Because this is just meant for clothing wounds.
27:12They are secret.
27:13OK, last one.
27:14And that goes there.
27:15Now, just got to make sure that these are on absolutely perfectly, because she will definitely
27:19notice.
27:20And that's it.
27:21There we go.
27:22What do you think?
27:23Barry?
27:24Barry?
27:25Yes, it is.
27:26It is.
27:27It is.
27:28No, I'm going to tell anyone that I'm using this, OK?
27:29Because this is just meant for clothing wounds.
27:30That's a secret.
27:31OK, last one.
27:32And that goes there.
27:33Now, just got to make sure that these are on absolutely perfectly, because she will definitely
27:36notice.
27:37And that's it.
27:38Here we go.
27:39What do you think?
27:40Barry?
27:41Barry?
27:42I'm sorry.
27:43No.
27:44What's the last time?
27:45Go ahead.
27:47I didn't say that.
27:48I'm, I'm sorry.
27:49Barry. Barry, can you hear me? Mr. Epping? Mr. Epping? Can you hear me?
27:58Um, can I get some help, please?
28:06He was drowsy but talking. That was just not responsive. Crash trolley.
28:19Let's do a rhythm check.
28:26Hi, there's a fault.
28:32Um, okay, fine, get it off. Continue, please. Can, keep up compressions.
28:37Let's go. Let's go.
28:40Let's go.
28:44Yeah, can you put me through, please? Thanks.
28:51Yeah, they can't staff a theatre without pulling another team from surgery.
28:56Okay, well, he's deteriorating fast.
28:59Should we give him another two units of Pac-Red cells and a unit of FFP?
29:03There's one. Rita. Hi, it's Stevie here.
29:10Hi. Is this where you're talking about?
29:12Yeah, yeah, it is. Look, I'm here with the kid from the RTC this morning, the driver.
29:18I think you're treating his brother at the minute.
29:21We've got a possible bowel injury at the DJ Flexure. Can I set him up to you?
29:26We have plastics here.
29:29We're looking at the arm reattachment. I think that's going to take a couple of hours.
29:33Yeah, yeah. Basically, I need you two. Forget the arm.
29:36Yeah, Rita, I've got a kid here. It's the 17-year-old with a new score of six.
29:41You know, he's triggering for sepsis. We're looking at possible organ failure.
29:44Well, whatever it is, the other trauma team will have to do it.
29:47Yeah, Rita, could you tell Russell if he has something to say he can come on the phone to say it?
29:50Because I'm perfectly aware the other trauma team are working on a ruptured spleen.
29:54So, you're this kid's only hope.
29:56Yeah, do you know what? Just hold on.
29:58Put me on hold.
30:00They sound quite worried.
30:02They always sound worried.
30:04It's his brother. He was driving the car. They were in a bowel injury, triggering for sepsis.
30:11If we clear the theatre for him, then this fellow loses an arm.
30:14I'm sure he'd rather that than lose his little brother.
30:21Rita, Mr. Whitelaw has given his final.
30:24I'm really sorry, guys. It's not up to me and I don't know anything, but...
30:29How likely is it that this arm reattachment is going to work?
30:35Genuine question?
30:38I agree it is a long shot.
30:40And there is an outside chance that he might be too unstable for a plastic sock.
30:45This could be life or death.
30:49No.
30:54My apologies, gentlemen. It appears that your services are no longer required.
31:04Send him up.
31:05Great. Thank you. Thanks.
31:08Did she get us a theatre?
31:09Yeah, she did. I did.
31:11OK.
31:12Let's go. I didn't need...
31:14Let's go.
31:15If we open him up and find that it's a fuss over nothing, then you're going to have to explain why we didn't at least try to save his arm.
31:23Let's close and reset the theatre, please.
31:25And will somebody take the arm down to the morgue?
31:27He's been down for ten minutes. He's in BF. Come on. Shock him.
31:31OK. Charging to 150. OK. Top, middle, bottom clear.
31:37Pat the chest.
31:38Shocking.
31:39Wait.
31:40Wait.
31:41Wait.
31:43OK.
31:44I've got Ross.
31:45Start a repeat.
31:46ECG, a blood gas.
31:47Call ITU.
31:48I owe you an apology.
31:50It's OK.
31:51No, it's not.
31:52Let him apologise.
31:54I'm sorry.
31:57OK.
31:58Nothing that happened today was on you.
32:08I owe you an apology.
32:09It's OK.
32:10No, it's not.
32:11Let him apologise.
32:13I'm sorry.
32:16OK.
32:18I'm sorry, OK? Nothing that happened today is on you at all.
32:22You're an excellent nurse.
32:24And I'm grateful for all your hard work.
32:42Well, that was interesting.
32:44God, I really hope this kid's on death's door.
32:48Sorry. You know what I meant.
32:53Do you think it was a mistake?
32:55I just can't believe he listened to you.
32:58He doesn't listen to anyone.
33:00Then again, I've never seen anyone speak to him the way you do, so...
33:04Yeah.
33:06Everyone keeps saying how he's this big tyrant,
33:08but he seems perfectly friendly to me.
33:11If anything, a little too friendly.
33:14Well, you've got some balls, I'll give you that.
33:19Hey, guys. Hey, Rimi.
33:20Hey, can I give you this now?
33:21Don't worry, we can sort that later. That's not a...
33:23No, because then I just know it's definite and done and sorted.
33:26OK.
33:27And I'm sorry it's not as much as you wanted for the deposit.
33:30It's just all I've got left saved.
33:32Don't be silly. That's fine.
33:33Um, well, I suppose we should all celebrate later.
33:36Yeah? Have a drink or something?
33:37Yep.
33:38Cool. And I guess I'm buying?
33:39You're gonna have to.
33:40OK.
33:41OK. No worries. See you later.
33:42All right. See you in a bit.
33:43Cheers.
33:45Cheers.
33:50What'd you like to say?
33:52Oh, yeah.
33:53You're gonna have to.
33:54Okay.
33:55No worries.
33:56See you later.
33:57All right. See you in a bit.
33:58Cheers.
33:59You're welcome.
34:00Great.
34:01Enjoy.
34:19Suction. I think we can safely confirm a perforated colon. Okay, plan of action. Dr. Piper?
34:29Peritoneal saline washout. And then primary anastomosis.
34:35Dr. Redmond?
34:36I agree with the washout, but a joint wouldn't heal. I'd give him a Hartman's in reverse in six months or so.
34:43I agree with you, Dr. Redmond. Anastomosis is a ludicrous suggestion. The brother has already sacrificed an arm. Let's not risk anything more.
34:52Nurse Amman, this boy may well owe you his life. This is why I brought her up here. All patients should be so lucky as to have such an advocate.
35:07Let's begin.
35:18Now, I'm telling you, Eve, that it was definitely the person who smashed my murder.
35:21I thought you said you hardly saw him. I saw enough.
35:24Are you sure you're not just being a wee bit?
35:26No, Faith, I'm not cracking up. I'm not saying you're cracking up, but maybe you're overthinking it.
35:30There's all sorts of people around here. It's a public place.
35:34Okay, but I'd say my flat.
35:36It's a public street. Like, why would somebody be talking about getting you? Who would want to do that?
35:49Yeah.
35:52Oh, great. More paperwork.
35:54Great save.
35:56As long as it's not more numbers that don't add up.
35:59You're at that stage, right?
36:01Yeah. It's impossible.
36:03Okay, because as long as you realise that, I mean, it is actually impossible.
36:07It doesn't matter which way you try and add things up. They don't because there just isn't enough money to go around.
36:13Resources are just allocated according to whatever people are most upset about on any given day.
36:17Right.
36:18Well, no, I think, once you realise that you are just moving deck chairs about on the Titanic, strangely enough, it does become, it becomes less frustrating.
36:25Strangely.
36:26And they're just giving up.
36:27Or, or pragmatism, I think. Just understanding there's only so much that one person can do.
36:32It's a bigger job than you. It's a bigger job even than me.
36:34It's a bigger job avant those арte drives to the Titanic.
36:36It's a bigger job than I have to get up.
36:38Jeepers must fill put down though.
36:40Yeah, the boat can do much danger otherwise.
36:43It's a bigger job for us to try again.
36:45I think that it's a bigger job.
36:46It's a bigger task for us, but we've got to take up instead of
37:01What?
37:12What's this?
37:14Wait, is this a colostomy bag?
37:15Hey, hey, Drew.
37:17I'm Rita.
37:17I'm your surgical nurse.
37:19I want you to know this is temporary.
37:21It's just giving your body time to recover.
37:23And then you can have another operation to reverse it.
37:26Where's my brother?
37:28Ellis.
37:28It's OK.
37:29He's over there.
37:30You can see him.
37:31Hey.
37:40It's OK.
37:43Look at me.
37:45Look at me.
37:46It's all right.
37:49It's not all right.
37:51This is all your fault.
37:55What?
37:56Faster.
37:57Go faster.
37:58Now look at us.
37:58Drew.
37:59Hey.
37:59I know this is such a shock, isn't it?
38:04It is so much to take in, but I promise you this is temporary, OK?
38:10Yeah, it's just screw you.
38:11And it won't stop you from doing anything.
38:16There's nothing that you can't do with a bag that you couldn't do before.
38:20Pushing me.
38:21Always pushing me.
38:22Always pushing me.
38:23Learn to drive.
38:24Go to uni.
38:25I didn't even want to go to uni in the first place.
38:27I was trying to help you.
38:28You're selfish.
38:29I don't need your help.
38:33You're not my dad.
38:34I don't need your dad.
39:01Indy. Indy's me. It's your dad.
39:04Oh. Hi.
39:08How are you?
39:10All right. How are you?
39:13Yeah, I'm getting there.
39:16Actually, that's not true.
39:20I'm in a bit of trouble.
39:22I thought you were supposed to be staying out of trouble after what happened.
39:25It wasn't a one-time thing, was it?
39:28Listen, I feel bad asking.
39:31But I need to borrow some money. Just a few hundred quid. I'll pay you back, I promise.
39:36It really helped me out.
39:41More than you know.
39:43You've all got the car.
39:56Okay.
40:01Look, I know it's not my place.
40:14But you're both extremely lucky to be alive.
40:21And seeing as you still have each other, I think you need to talk.
40:25I can't leave because I have to monitor you, but I'm going to just turn around, and I'll pretend I can't hear you, and you two can just...
40:36Yeah?
40:37Look.
40:38When that died...
40:39When that died...
40:43Didn't seem important.
40:44Exams.
40:45Didn't seem important.
40:46Exams.
40:47No.
40:48No.
40:49No.
40:50You can be better than me.
40:53You can have more.
40:53You can have more.
40:54You can have more.
40:55Look, when Dad died, it didn't seem important.
41:10Exams.
41:11No.
41:14You can be better than me.
41:16You can have more.
41:22You can't carry on at the factory anymore.
41:25What else are you going to do?
41:34I thought maybe drive an instructor.
41:37What else?
41:37What else?
41:43No.
41:44Ha, ha, ha.
41:50Ha, ha, ha, ha.
42:06PHONE RINGS
42:08PHONE RINGS
42:10Hi.
42:23Hi.
42:28Thought we agreed we wouldn't need to speak again.
42:31Yeah.
42:32I think you agreed that.
42:40Look, the way I see it, we are on the same side.
42:50So we don't need to treat each other like the enemy.
42:54We both want the same thing.
42:57I started this job to do something positive.
43:03And instead, I am wasting my time making impossible decisions
43:09between safe staffing and safe equipment.
43:13We need more money.
43:17It's that simple.
43:20What I want to know is...
43:23What are you going to do about it?
43:28Sean said I was a natural and that he's really proud of me.
43:44Hey.
43:45Hey, housemate.
43:46Can't tell us the good news.
43:48Yeah, I'm really sorry to mess you all around.
43:50I don't actually need the room anymore.
43:52Oh.
43:53Yeah.
43:54I went to talk to my landlord to hand him a notice
43:56and he said that renovations are going to be done by the weekend.
43:58Aw, that's a shame. Would have been fun.
44:00Yeah. It's just all my stuff's already there, so it's easier.
44:04No, of course not. That makes complete sense.
44:06Here, I should give you this back.
44:07Is that all right?
44:08Yeah, of course it is.
44:10Thanks. Sorry.
44:11No, it's not at all.
44:15Well, do you guys still want to go to the pub?
44:17Absolutely.
44:18Definitely.
44:18Yeah?
44:18Yeah.
44:19Rita, we'll see you in there.
44:21OK. We're just going for a drink. Do you want to come?
44:24No, I can't stop. I just want to do a quick word.
44:26About how amazing I was, Nicole. I already know.
44:32You OK?
44:33Yeah, so when I started in surgery,
44:36one of the lasses told me what I'm going to tell you.
44:40OK.
44:43There's a list of blokes you want to be careful around.
44:51And Mr. Waitlaw is top of that list.
44:54Are you serious?
44:57Well, you said he's already been a bit too friendly.
45:01Uh, yeah, but I...
45:04OK.
45:07And thank you for letting me know.
45:10He wasn't the only one I was warned about.
45:12Sean's name is on the list, too.
45:23I am so sorry.
45:25I...
45:26I just...
45:26I just thought you should know.
45:28I...
45:28I...
45:30I...
45:32I...
