00:00And as I told you, we are back with our special envoy in Ecuador, Jorge Gestoso, for much information about the elections that are being held in Ecuador.
00:11Hello, Jorge, what else can you tell us about this day?
00:16We are about 25 minutes away for the closing of the polls.
00:21And at that moment, the big question mark is starting, the watch is ticking to see when we are going to learn who is the next president elected of Ecuador.
00:34We are expecting that to be around 9 p.m., according to the National Electoral Council.
00:41And there's some expectations.
00:44That's a word that the rival of the president candidate Daniel Lagoa mentioned.
00:49We're talking about Luisa Gonzalez, that she says that she expects that no irregularities, no surprises, no possibilities of fraud are going to come on the last minute.
01:03And therefore, there is a lot of expectation of what could be the results.
01:10There is initially four companies were allowed by the National Electoral Council to conduct exit polls, finally out of the four to accept to do so.
01:26The procedure was that they were going to do the job, and before 5 p.m., they have to send the information to the National Electoral Council.
01:37We will get that information and decide at which point they will publish it.
01:44So also that is creating some surprises and some speculations about if that could be an indication of what to expect.
01:55The president of the National Electoral Council put special emphasis that exit polls do not mean, and put emphasis, do not mean final results, means and study that could eventually indicate a trend,
02:15but not necessarily even those results are not endorsed by the National Electoral Council, but that could give us an indication, a trick, if you want, that they were trying to place the campaign of the candidate president Daniel Lagoa on the first round that we're talking about two months ago,
02:38was that they created out of the poll, without being authorized, an exit poll that they published about one hour after the closing of the polls.
02:50And at that point, the rhetoric was going to be that they were winning the first round or they were winning the election at that point with 51% of the votes that turned to be totally fake, totally false.
03:06At the end of the polls, at the end of the polls, at the end of the night, there was a technical dead-even result with 44% of the votes, each of the two major candidates, Novoa and González.
03:19But they were mounted a circus, so much so that about a kilometer away from here, that there was the campaign of the president candidate Novoa, they were even launching artificial, you know, artificial, whatever you call it, just to celebrate the supposed victory.
03:45And it was totally fake. At the end of the day, President Novoa disappeared. He was supposed to give a speech, disappeared. There was supposed to be a celebration in a hotel. It didn't happen.
03:59So, in this opportunity, only two companies are allowed to run electoral campaigns, electoral, what we call exit polls, and that will be some indication and we expect and we hope that by around 9pm, we could have some indications.
04:19We'll get back to you now.
04:20Thank you, Jorge. Don't go away. Don't go really far because we'll be right back with you in our next news brief. Thank you.
