00:00Welcome to the Football Show on PLZ Soccer's YouTube channel.
00:09I'm Peter Martin, Alison McConnell, Tam McManus here with me in the studio.
00:13Lots to talk about European football and domestic issues as well.
00:18Here's what's coming up.
00:19Here's what's coming up on today's show.
00:22Sponsored by Arnold Clarke Rewards.
00:24Brendan Rodgers says if his squad doesn't improve over the summer,
00:27it could prompt an exit for the Celtic boss from the Parkhead side.
00:32Barry Ferguson admits replacing Jack Butland with Liam Kelly in last night's game against Athletic Bilbao
00:37was one of the toughest calls he's had to make.
00:40Stephen Robinson says the Buddies are not the team under pressure going into this weekend.
00:45And Neil Critchley believes that a top six finish for Hearts is a key way to attract talent to the squad.
00:52Yeah, that's just a few of the topics you can give as your point of view.
00:55on this weekend's fixtures on the Saturday and the Sunday.
00:59Who do you think is going to get that top six place?
01:02And of course, then suddenly you have to look at the bottom six
01:05and wonder who's going to try and avoid the playoff
01:09and who's going to get relegated.
01:11All to play for, and I presume Neil Doncaster,
01:14well happy that everything is alive in that division.
01:18Give us your thoughts on that.
01:19But our first port of call is, of course, Ibrox last night
01:23where Rangers held Bilbao to a nil-nil draw.
01:27And the reason I say they held them is because there were ten men
01:31for three quarters of that game, Tam.
01:33It was an unbelievable effort by Rangers.
01:36Yeah, it was.
01:37I think if you'd have offered the Rangers fans and the players and the staff
01:40that after 20 minutes, they'd have taken it.
01:42I thought they defended really, really strongly.
01:44They owed their luck at times.
01:45But, you know, really, really good performance, stayed in the tie.
01:49Obviously, at the end, you know, the penalty save from Liam Kelly,
01:52which could be pivotal in the tie.
01:54You know, he'd come in and done really, really well, kept a clean sheet.
01:57So, you know, I think if you're a Ranger supporter,
01:59you're delighted with the result and you can go over to Spain
02:01still in the tie and with a chance.
02:03We've seen Rangers away from home this season.
02:05You know, I think they're probably better, more equipped to play away from home.
02:08And if they put a performance in like they've done in Turkey,
02:11then they can go and try and get through it in the semi-final.
02:13Yeah, I mean, I'm not in any way going to diminish the enormity of the task
02:18that Rangers are facing or, indeed, the quality of opposition in Athletic Bilbao
02:22because in their own backyard, with the incentive of knowing the Europa League final
02:26is going to be there, Alison, then Athletic Bilbao will clearly have the advantage.
02:32But I'll tell you, I agree with Tam.
02:34I fancy Rangers to do something here that you can't write them off.
02:37You never know what you get.
02:38Yeah, I don't think you could write them off if you just look at the evidence
02:41of recent European campaigns and the scalps that they've taken on the road.
02:45I think they'll feel emboldened going into that second leg,
02:49just the manner in which they restricted Bilbao.
02:52You'd have to say, too, well, there was a penalty save
02:55and there was a couple of saves just towards the end of the first half.
02:58I didn't think Liam Kelly had too much to do across the course of the game.
03:04If you think that Bilbao had a numerical advantage playing for so long against 10 men,
03:10there weren't too many times where they really carved Rangers open and left them exposed.
03:16I think Rangers worked very hard, obviously, just to restrict the space,
03:20just to try and minimise any opportunities.
03:24But I think Rangers will feel heartened by the way that they restricted them
03:28and they'll go over it and they'll just try and stick to a game plan
03:33that you've seen from them repeatedly.
03:35They'll try and contain Bilbao, they'll try and hit them in the break.
03:37And Rangers have menace on the break at times.
03:41Dessert actually had a good chance last night, too,
03:44and then a couple of set pieces just towards the end.
03:46They've always got that in their locker.
03:48And I think they'll fancy themselves, too.
03:50I think they'll believe that there's scope to go and do something.
03:54Yeah, OK, let's cut to the chase then.
03:56And Robin Proper, was it a red?
04:00Yes.
04:01I think he's last man, Peter.
04:03Obviously, if it was in the box, then I think you can't send him off as double jeopardy.
04:06But he was outside the box, he was clean through for me.
04:09Goal's got an opportunity.
04:11And the referee, by the letter of the law, has got to send him off.
04:14And I think Rangers actually played better with 10 men with him off the park.
04:17Because, again, he's let the team down.
04:19He has in several other games.
04:22And Barry must be pulling his head out with him.
04:23Because an experienced player getting done like that on the edge of the box turned.
04:27And it shouldn't happen.
04:29And last night's team-mates bailed him out.
04:30Peter, they kept him in the tie.
04:31But, yeah, it was definitely a red card for me.
04:33Yeah, I'm glad you said that.
04:34Because sometimes I think, you know, when you listen across all quarters to, you know,
04:42whether it's a red or not, you know,
04:43sometimes people just let their passion and bias get in the way of what is a decision which is part of the rules.
04:51I mean, I know some people are calling for rules to be changed because they don't like what the referee decided last night.
04:56But, I mean, give me peace.
04:58It's a red card.
04:58But what I think will infuriate Barry Ferguson is Barry made some really brave decisions in his team selection.
05:05And then it gets kicked right out of the window after 12 minutes.
05:08Yeah, and I think at that point you feared for Rangers.
05:12I think when they went down to 10 men so early in the game, you wondered what was going to lie ahead for them.
05:18I think it was a red too.
05:19I think on first viewing I thought it was harsh in real time.
05:22I thought it was harsh.
05:23When I watched it back and saw it again, I thought it was a definite red card.
05:26But, yeah, I think he'd be frustrated at the cheapness of it.
05:30I think it's a moment of skill and proper was caught out by it.
05:35I thought he looked really clumsy, very rash.
05:38But I gave Rangers an uphill mountain at that point in the game to go and climb.
05:42And they had to change it about.
05:44They had to make sure they were sitting in and just restricting Will Beo and working their socks off across the middle of the park.
05:51And I think they've done that.
05:52I think, you know, under the cost for large points in terms of not having the ball,
05:56and letting Mobile have the ball, have possession, without them really creating too many big chances within that game.
06:03Yeah, I think the keeper needs to be credited with, you know, a safe pair of hands.
06:09You know, he made a couple of saves.
06:10Some of them, obviously, people will think, oh, that was for the cameras.
06:14But he still had to make the saves, which kind of, I think, calmed the nerves of the team.
06:19And it was a tough decision on Jack Butland, one that the manager acknowledged after the game.
06:24One of the toughest things I've had to do.
06:26Firstly, I think Jack Butland is a top goalkeeper.
06:30Secondly, I've got a very, very good relationship with Jack.
06:34I've known Jack a long time.
06:35He was a young kid coming through at Birmingham when I went down to play for Birmingham in the Premier League.
06:42And thirdly, I've got to know it's hurting Jack.
06:44And I've got to be mindful of that as well.
06:47Because I care for him.
06:49So, I just had to make a decision.
06:52And it was a tough decision when I spoke to him.
06:54I could see he was hurting.
06:56We have had Barry as a pundit on our programme, Tam, for three years.
07:02I just think he conducts himself so well.
07:05Pre-match, post-match, you know, in situations where they've been woeful.
07:11He's not in any way trying to fudge the issue.
07:14He's just saying that's not a Rangers team.
07:16It needs to be consistent.
07:17They need to do more.
07:19Last night, it was one of those things where he was basically saying,
07:22well, listen, that is a Rangers team.
07:24But that's the base level that you should be doing every week.
07:27Yeah, I think he's very honest, Peter.
07:29I think you've seen that in several games where they've played well.
07:32He's gave the team praise.
07:33I mean, they've been poor.
07:34He's said they were poor.
07:35He doesn't hide behind anything or cliches that some managers do.
07:39And he's been pretty refreshing, to be honest, in that job.
07:41Big call for him.
07:42I think myself and Alison called it during the week that they would change the goalkeeper.
07:47And they did change it.
07:48And I thought he was excellent, Peter.
07:49And I thought at the end of the game it was good to see.
07:50But then he was the first person over to him.
07:52I thought that showed a lot of class.
07:53Some people, some outfield players, probably strikers.
07:57And maybe we wouldn't do that.
07:58We're going away in a huff.
07:58But goalkeepers union, you know, they're tight.
08:01And they went over.
08:03I get dropped and the guy came in and scored a winner from the other way up at the tunnel.
08:06Raging.
08:07Have you ever spoken to Anthony Stokes when he replaced you at Falkert?
08:10No, I haven't.
08:11Aye, Stokes.
08:12Aye, Stokes.
08:12He scored about 16 goals.
08:13And I watched all of them for the bench.
08:16Aye.
08:16I think I showed a lot of class, Peter, at the end of the game.
08:18He went up and was the first guy to congratulate him, Kelly, on a clean sheet and a great performance.
08:22So that shows you the measure of Jack Buckland as well.
08:24So, no, I thought Barry spoke well there, handed it well.
08:27Listen, nobody wants to be dropped for big games.
08:29But I just felt he'd lost the trust of the supporters, particularly at Ibrox.
08:33And I thought it was the right call and it's worked for him.
08:34Yeah, absolutely.
08:35And over and above that, there are issues which obviously later on in the game left me slightly bemused.
08:42I mean, I have to say, although we didn't even get to the point whether they were going to call the goal offside,
08:48I must admit, I didn't think it was a penalty.
08:52I didn't think it was a penalty because that ball's coming over his head.
08:56He doesn't know.
08:57He's naturally going for the ball.
08:59I thought it was brutally harsh.
09:02I thought it was harsh too.
09:04However, I did think that in the current climate, you're probably going to give it.
09:08You're probably going to have it given against you.
09:11Just if you go back to what we've seen, decisions like that,
09:14that have been given since the introduction of VAR and the kind of tweak around the rule,
09:18I wasn't overly surprised that it was given, I would have to say.
09:22Yeah, Tom, when you're a striker, you could see the way he's running towards the wall
09:28and then you're a defender.
09:29And you're just trying, if you can't get your head on it, he's looking.
09:34I don't think he sees anything behind him.
09:37It's not as if he's consciously gone and taken the ball in a different direction.
09:41I thought it was harsh as well, Peter.
09:44There was no intent for him to hand ball it.
09:46But if you look at it from the referee's side, official's side,
09:49if he doesn't flick his hand, does that guy take a touch and get a shot and goal?
09:52I think that's probably the key aspect of it for me is probably yes.
09:56I think that just deflects it and the boy takes a touch.
09:59Whereas if it doesn't hit his hand, I think he maybe takes a touch by Sterling
10:02and gets the shot away.
10:03So, yeah, I thought it was pretty harsh on Rangers,
10:06but they'll believe justice was done with the keeper saving it.
10:09And a poor penalty.
10:09And Alison mentioned earlier, I don't think they created an awful lot of chances.
10:13I think the last three games where Boer have played have been 0-0s.
10:17So they don't concede many and they don't tend to score many.
10:20So if Rangers get their first goal over there, the pressure is massive on them
10:24because their fans will be expecting them not only to win at home against Rangers,
10:27but to go and win a tournament in their own backyard.
10:29Yeah, you mentioned, and I've chatted to you so many times about it,
10:33you taking penalty kicks.
10:35Are you a down-the-middle person or are you a corner high?
10:39I tried to place a couple earlier in my career, Peter, and I missed a couple.
10:42One against Rangers at Ibrox that I tried to place,
10:44and then I just went for power down the middle.
10:46Did you?
10:47But the one last night wasn't really any power on it.
10:50It was just kind of, I don't know if I mishit it,
10:52but the keeper's kicked his leg up.
10:54It's a poor penalty, Peter.
10:54I think if you're going to go down the middle, you hit it high, you hit it firm.
10:57I don't think he'd done that, and he let the keeper get his legs up and save it,
11:01but poor penalty.
11:03I thought after that, I thought Rangers seen the game out quite comfortably,
11:06but I think it's a real chance miss from Balboa's point of view of taking a lead back to Spain.
11:11Listen, Rangers can go there and get the first goal.
11:13As I said, the pressure's enormous on them.
11:14Yeah, Liam Kelly, as you can imagine,
11:17after the match, talking to everyone, just ecstatic at what unfolded for him.
11:22Oh, well, I've had much better games in terms of stuff to do.
11:25In terms of the actual general feeling, right up there,
11:27I've been here my whole life.
11:29Came around as an eight-year-old,
11:30and then he played in a European quarter-finals,
11:32save a pen and Ibrickson,
11:33and drawn a 0-10 men.
11:34It's an incredible feeling.
11:36I might not seem too happy,
11:37but it's only because it's half-time.
11:40I mean, I can't even be like,
11:40you're jumping about,
11:41and then something happens with me next week.
11:42That's not what we want.
11:43I want to grind the game.
11:44I want to dig in again, the way Rangers do,
11:46and keep listening to the gaffers' message.
11:48Him, Neil McCann, Billy Dodds, E-Sam,
11:50they all give us great messages.
11:52Tactically, we were really good tonight,
11:54probably even better with 10 men,
11:55and we've managed to stay alive in the tie,
11:57and that's the most important thing.
11:59Yeah, that's what you call a classic custard pie
12:01to your team-mate,
12:03or better with 10 men.
12:07Thank you for that, Liam.
12:09But the overall performance on it,
12:11we've analysed Rangers,
12:13what they did right,
12:14the big decisions from the manager,
12:16the players who turned up
12:18and absolutely worked their socks off.
12:20Flipside,
12:22Athletic Bilbao.
12:24Now,
12:25they knocked out Roma,
12:26they've beaten Real Madrid
12:27at home earlier in the season.
12:30They were unbeaten
12:31in the last four or five games,
12:34Ali,
12:34and everybody was raving about
12:36the Williams brothers
12:37and what they were going to do
12:38to Rangers.
12:41I'm loathe to kind of
12:43be heavily critical of them
12:44because in their own backyard
12:46they might be a different animal,
12:47but I am with Tam on this.
12:50I just think,
12:51I thought for all their creativity
12:54that everybody was talking about,
12:57it didn't really materialise.
12:58Rangers looked okay with them.
13:00I think when you look at where they are
13:01in La Liga,
13:02they're sitting fourth.
13:03You expected a bit more from them.
13:06I think they look quite pedestrian
13:07at points.
13:09I would agree.
13:10I think they're a team
13:11who will have designs
13:12on winning this tournament.
13:14I think they'll fancy themselves
13:15to go and get to the final
13:17and I think,
13:18I just thought it was
13:19a fairly lacklustre performance
13:21last night at Ibrox
13:22and it was funny.
13:23When the penalty was awarded
13:25and obviously there was
13:26this huge delay
13:27before you got there
13:29because the goal
13:29had been chopped off
13:30and the referee had to go
13:32and look at the monitor
13:32and it just seemed to take forever
13:34before he came to the conclusion
13:36that it was a penalty
13:37and then Ibrox was,
13:41it just was an uproar.
13:43The noise was phenomenal
13:44and I think players,
13:46particularly experienced players
13:48are never entirely intimidated
13:50by playing in that kind of environment
13:52but as he stepped up
13:53to take the penalty
13:54and all the noise
13:55going on round about him,
13:57I thought he did look nervous.
14:00I thought he didn't look...
14:01He's bottle crushed.
14:02I don't know if it was as much
14:03his bottle crushed
14:04as his concentration
14:05was maybe affected
14:06but I thought it was
14:07a poor penalty
14:08and I think you could sense it
14:10in the build-up
14:10as he was going to take it.
14:11I thought his body language
14:12and everything
14:13just didn't look
14:14particularly confident
14:16and I think that was
14:17just epitomised
14:18by the performance
14:19in general from Mobile.
14:20Yeah, okay.
14:21I've been in that guy's shoes.
14:22Yeah.
14:22The noise is incredible.
14:23I took one at two each
14:24for Hibbs against Rangers.
14:26Bottle crushed?
14:27Aye.
14:28Nearly never reached a goal.
14:29Yeah.
14:29Were you like the guy
14:30just behind...
14:30Were you like the guy
14:31just behind Russell Crowe
14:32in the gladiator?
14:34Aye.
14:34Aye.
14:35Bottle went.
14:36I mean, the noise...
14:37Just when I put the ball down
14:38and then stepped back.
14:40You know, it was two each
14:40at the time with a big moment
14:41in the game
14:41and the noise
14:42and it's just...
14:43My legs turned to jelly.
14:45But I sorted that out
14:47at Hampden
14:47when I blasted the one
14:48down in the middle
14:48and we beat Rangers
14:49in the semi-final.
14:50So, yeah,
14:51that was me trying to place it
14:53and I agree with Ali.
14:54I think the guy
14:54who looked a wee bit nervous
14:55got up to take it
14:55and the noise...
14:56The noise was phenomenal
14:57last night
14:58as he went to take it
14:59at really what...
15:00Like, everyone cheering
15:02and shouting
15:03and just trying to distract him
15:04and put him off.
15:05And I do think, you know,
15:06if you're a big-time player
15:07I think you're used to that
15:09and you learn
15:10to adapt to it
15:11but I did think
15:12that he looked quite nervous.
15:13Yep.
15:14Okay.
15:15So, give us your thoughts.
15:16Are they going to go through?
15:18What did you make
15:19of the performance last night?
15:20What about those big decisions?
15:21We can only call it
15:22as we see it
15:23and try to be
15:23as balanced
15:24as we possibly can.
15:26You can give us
15:27your view on it as well.
15:28Thank you to so many of you
15:30for giving us
15:31your opinion on this
15:32and, of course,
15:33obviously, as ever
15:34we like a bit of banter
15:35with you
15:36and want you to enjoy it.
15:38Obviously, people
15:39mentioning Ali
15:39Bowden must have a sale on
15:42because, obviously,
15:43you're looking resplendent
15:44in your summery dress
15:45whereas you and I
15:46have gone for
15:48tried and trusted dull
15:49on a sunny summer's day, Tam.
15:52I have.
15:52You're looking well with you.
15:53She's absolutely...
15:54Unusually.
15:55Unusually, I...
15:56Only you...
15:57Only you
15:58could isolate
15:58that positive comment
15:59and take it the other way.
16:01Yeah, so, listen,
16:03give us your thoughts
16:04on all of
16:05the European campaign.
16:07I think they've got
16:08a real chance.
16:08I'm going to...
16:10I don't know.
16:11I'm going to stick my neck out
16:12and say it might go
16:13to extra time in penalties.
16:14I think Bilboa
16:14will beat them at home, Peter.
16:15I think they're strong.
16:16I'm far, far better at home.
16:17But I don't think...
16:18I think it'll be a tight game
16:19but maybe 2-1 to Bilboa.
16:21I think they'll go through
16:21but...
16:23I fancied Bilboa last night
16:24and they weren't up too much
16:25so I didn't need
16:26to improve heavily
16:27for the next time
16:28to go through.
16:29Yeah, it could be...
16:30Manchester United
16:31or Lyon in the semis.
16:33I think it's just
16:34expected-unexpected
16:35when Rangers play in Europe.
16:38You never know.
16:39It's a Jekyll and Hyde, isn't it?
16:40It's a totally different.
16:41Stephen Hawkins
16:42is sitting somewhere
16:43trying to work Rangers out
16:44just now.
16:45You know,
16:45the domestic form
16:46versus European form.
16:48I think
16:48there's just something
16:50about them
16:51when it goes into Europe.
16:52There's a particularly
16:53kind of alchemy
16:54with these Thursday nights
16:55under the lights
16:56that they seem to turn up
16:57and relish the occasion.
16:58I don't know
16:59if there's just a freedom
17:00in those games
17:01but I think it's
17:03very, very difficult
17:04to call.
17:04I wouldn't be surprised
17:05if it went to extra time.
17:06Yeah.
17:07Where did you pull
17:07Stephen Hawkins from
17:08when you were...
17:08That's not...
17:10Just so unlike you.
17:11Could you not think
17:12of Einstein?
17:12Anyway,
17:16give us your thoughts on it.
17:17Now,
17:17listen,
17:18from European campaign,
17:21we switch our attention.
17:22Can I just mention
17:22one other little thing?
17:23I've just got to mention it
17:24because we never get a chance
17:25to talk about it.
17:25Just before we go
17:26into the weekend,
17:28if you've never taken
17:29a free kick before,
17:30Tam,
17:31and then you suddenly
17:32step up and say,
17:32listen,
17:32I'm going to have this one
17:34and I may have the next one
17:35as well.
17:36I mean,
17:36I've never on social media
17:38witnessed
17:39the avalanche
17:41of every angle
17:42on your man
17:44Declan Rice's free kicks.
17:46They were unbelievable,
17:47weren't they?
17:47Yeah,
17:48they were.
17:48I think they're probably
17:48the two best I've seen.
17:49I know Lee Griffiths
17:50will obviously argue
17:51with his two
17:52in a key game,
17:53but the second one
17:54was just out of this world.
17:55It was right in
17:56the postage stamp.
17:57Did you jump off the couch?
17:58I just...
17:58I couldn't believe it.
17:59I was just shaking my head
18:00the second one.
18:00I thought he was confident
18:01he's tails if he scored one.
18:03Maybe score again,
18:04but he's worked out
18:05on the wall
18:05in the top corner.
18:06Carl,
18:06just the absolute bend
18:08on that.
18:08Oh,
18:08it was a tremendous goal.
18:10The last time I've seen
18:10a swerve like that
18:11was the better of Carlos.
18:12Yeah.
18:13La Tournois.
18:13Yeah,
18:14absolutely.
18:15Great goal.
18:16Second one,
18:17just out of this world.
18:18It was absolutely fantastic.
18:20Listen,
18:20we love our Scottish football.
18:21We love the fact that,
18:23you know,
18:23we get a chance to moan
18:24and say,
18:25change the league
18:26and get 14 or 16 into it.
18:28Don't keep the stairs go.
18:30Then there's a threat of 10.
18:31But the one thing
18:32that Neil Doncaster
18:33will be saying right now
18:34is,
18:34listen,
18:35this weekend
18:36is nail-biting stuff
18:38and it has huge implications
18:39for everyone.
18:40It's up for grabs.
18:42So,
18:43with that in mind,
18:44Motherwell need to beat Hearts
18:45and hope that St Mirren
18:46don't win
18:47to seal the top six
18:49for Motherwell.
18:50St Mirren need to beat
18:51Ross County
18:51and hope Hearts
18:52don't beat Motherwell
18:54to seal the top six.
18:55And if Hearts defeat Motherwell,
18:57they'll seal top six
18:58regardless of
18:59all the other results.
19:01There's your permutations.
19:02First part,
19:03Motherwell against Hearts.
19:04It's going to be
19:05an absolute belter.
19:06I'm going to be there.
19:07You're going to be there.
19:08Blair's going to be there.
19:10Everybody's going to be there.
19:11It's going to be
19:12really exciting
19:13and nail-biting.
19:14Yeah,
19:14I think it's a huge game.
19:16I think the pressure
19:17is really all on Hearts
19:18to get that top six place.
19:20I think
19:20you look at
19:21the resources
19:22that Hearts have
19:23as a club
19:24compared to Motherwell
19:25and compared to St Mirren.
19:27They should be
19:28in the top six.
19:29I think
19:30where they are just now
19:31is maybe just indicative
19:32of how poorly
19:33they started the campaign.
19:36But yeah,
19:37I think
19:37they obviously
19:39are in a position
19:41of strength.
19:42You know,
19:43it's theirs really.
19:44They know if they go
19:45and get the win.
19:45They're not reliant
19:46on results
19:47going elsewhere.
19:48They know if they turn up
19:49at Fir Park
19:50and win the game
19:50then they've sealed
19:51the top six spot.
19:53But I just wonder
19:54about the psychology
19:55of this one.
19:55I wonder if St Mirren
19:56scored early
19:57against Ross County
19:58and the result
19:59starts to filter back
20:00to Fir Park
20:01just what that might do
20:02for the nerves
20:03within the Hibs camp
20:04within the Hearts camp
20:05because I think
20:06they know
20:06the onus is on them
20:08to go and get
20:08that top six place.
20:09Yeah.
20:10Sorry Ali,
20:11I was listening to you there.
20:12It was quite unnerving
20:13actually touching
20:13Tom's chest
20:14as I'm trying to find
20:15his microphone.
20:17See any hairs there?
20:18There are no hairs.
20:21But he's finally
20:23got it back.
20:24Somebody just said to me
20:25I don't think we can hear
20:26Tom.
20:26Where's his mic?
20:27And it was just unnerving
20:29to be perfectly honest
20:30with you.
20:32It happened on a Friday
20:33after.
20:33It was,
20:33that's exactly it.
20:34That's great.
20:35Good bit of noise
20:36up here.
20:37Oh,
20:38and here's the lines
20:39from it.
20:40Kenny,
20:40who's a big
20:41Don's fan,
20:41says,
20:41Hearts can't win
20:42big games.
20:43Where's the great
20:44Shankland?
20:46We'll be back in
20:47tomorrow,
20:47I would think,
20:48the way Wilson's out.
20:49Yeah,
20:49so it's an interesting
20:51one.
20:51I watched them
20:52last week.
20:53Dundee United
20:54got the win
20:55at Tynecastle
20:56and Shankland
20:58was on the bench
20:58last weekend
21:00so clearly
21:01the manager
21:01is,
21:02you know,
21:02he can waffle
21:04away and tell you
21:05that he's just
21:06given him a rest,
21:06he's had a lot of
21:07minutes,
21:07that's rubbish.
21:08He's now thinking
21:08to himself,
21:09I'm looking at
21:10next year and
21:11he's not going
21:11to be here.
21:12I think he realises
21:13that Lawrence
21:13Shankland is going
21:14to leave
21:15under freedom of
21:16contract.
21:16I think he's
21:17at an age now
21:17where he can
21:18go and pick
21:19his final move,
21:20big move.
21:21Whether his agent's
21:22got something lined up,
21:23we don't know.
21:23I don't think
21:23he'll sign another
21:24deal at Hearts
21:24but they'll need
21:25them tomorrow,
21:26they'll need
21:26them tomorrow,
21:27big time,
21:27they need to go
21:27and win that
21:28game,
21:28they need goals
21:29and obviously
21:30the lad James
21:31Wilson's out
21:31suspended so
21:32he'll come in
21:32beside Cabangu
21:33and probably
21:35play two up
21:36front so we'll
21:36have to wait
21:36and see but I
21:37fancy Hearts
21:37Peter.
21:38I think you're
21:39saying St Mern
21:39if it comes
21:40through that
21:41St Mern are
21:41winning that
21:42would affect
21:43Motherwell I
21:43think.
21:43Motherwell
21:43will need
21:44St Mern not
21:44to win,
21:45and them to
21:46win so I
21:47just fancy Hearts
21:48strongly here,
21:48I think they'll
21:49win.
21:49You know what's
21:49great about it,
21:50it's all to
21:50play for because
21:51Ross County
21:51cannot afford
21:52to continue
21:53this slip so
21:54there's nobody
21:56in a dead
21:56rubber here,
21:57everybody's got
21:58something to
21:59play for because
22:00the points are
22:00so critical.
22:02The other
22:02aspect of it
22:03which I genuinely
22:04hope doesn't
22:05happen is for
22:07VAR to become
22:09instrumental in a
22:10decision which
22:11incenses either
22:13manager on the
22:14day or indeed
22:15over at St
22:16Mern's Park.
22:18Obviously Michael
22:19Wimmer has been
22:19talking about the
22:20fact that they
22:21reckon they've
22:22had eight
22:22decisions this
22:23season that have
22:24really kind of
22:25gone against the
22:26fur park outfit.
22:27A hit and
22:28nobody sees it,
22:29then it's for me
22:30okay, but I
22:33think we should
22:34give the referee
22:35the responsibility
22:36to have the
22:39confidence and
22:40to be the man
22:40on the pitch who
22:41takes the
22:42decision.
22:45No, we
22:45can't.
22:46So we'll tell
22:47you that he
22:48said I'm not a
22:48fan.
22:49A VAR, I'm
22:50not going to do
22:50a German accent
22:51because I'm not
22:51really good at
22:52it, but he's
22:53not a fan of
22:54it.
22:55Yeah, and I
22:55think there'll
22:56be a few in
22:57that camp,
22:58St Mirren too,
22:58I think they
22:59feel particularly
23:00aggrieved with
23:01the number of
23:02decisions that
23:02have gone against
23:03them this season
23:04and I think
23:05when you look
23:06at it and you
23:07count up how
23:08many points you
23:09might feel as
23:09though you've
23:10been robbed
23:11of, so to
23:12speak, had
23:13decisions gone
23:14elsewhere, then I
23:15think it can be
23:16very frustrating,
23:16particularly when
23:17teams get to
23:18this point when
23:18you're just on
23:19the cusp of a
23:20top six place and
23:21the financial
23:22rewards that then
23:23go hand in hand
23:24with that and
23:25similarly if you
23:26find yourself down
23:26near the bottom
23:27end of the table,
23:28if you're in a
23:28position where
23:29relegation is part
23:31of the conversation
23:32at this stage of
23:32the season and
23:33you feel as though
23:33VAR decisions have
23:35cost you points and
23:36gone against you,
23:37it's very, very
23:37hard to stomach I
23:39think just because
23:40it has a very
23:42lasting effect on
23:43the finances of
23:44the club.
23:44And over in
23:45Germany, all of
23:47Michael Wimmer's
23:47family watch the
23:48show religiously,
23:49big fans of PLZ in
23:51Germany, so here's
23:53Michael Wimmer.
23:54In the end, to be
23:55honest, I said the
23:55same in Austria, I'm
23:57not a fan from the
23:58VAR because I think
24:00the VAR is important
24:02but only for on-site
24:04and for off-site and
24:06perhaps if somewhere
24:07is a hit and nobody
24:08sees it, then it's
24:09for me okay, but I
24:12think we should give
24:14the referee the
24:15responsibility to be
24:17the man on the, to
24:19have the confidence
24:19and to be the man on
24:20the pitch who takes
24:21the decision.
24:23I agree with him and
24:24I think it should be
24:25done quicker and I
24:25think if you look at
24:26Rangers last night, the
24:28delay is just, that's
24:30just the evidence of
24:31right across this
24:32season, I was at
24:33Tyne Castle, you
24:34know, it takes an
24:35eternity to make a
24:36decision, it's
24:36absolutely something that
24:37needs to be addressed.
24:38Yeah, it does, it
24:39needs to be quicker,
24:39Peter, no doubt about
24:40that, I agree with
24:41him on the off-sides
24:42and on-sides, I
24:43think that's a key
24:44one for me, I
24:44think that's got to
24:45be in play for VAR
24:46in terms of looking at
24:48tackles and all that
24:49again, I think he's
24:50right, just like the
24:51referee referee the
24:52game, if the referee
24:53sees it on the pitch,
24:54gives a red card and
24:55it's a red card,
24:56gives a booting,
24:56it's a booting, you
24:57know, you can't then
24:58go to a TV screen and
24:59have guys in the
25:00studio going and
25:00listening to go and
25:01take a look at that
25:01again because they're
25:02re-refereeing the game,
25:03so yeah, I totally
25:05agree with him and
25:05plus it's sapping the
25:07enjoyment out of the
25:08game for fans, I
25:09think you're at a
25:09game and like that
25:10last night, you know,
25:11three, four minutes to
25:12get a decision on a
25:13penalty, you know, you
25:14think you've got away
25:14with the off-side, then
25:15it's a penalty kick
25:16that nobody's seen, so
25:17yeah, and the goals in
25:20terms of celebrating
25:20last-minute winners and
25:21all that, you know,
25:22people are, if you
25:23score in the last
25:23minute, you're ecstatic,
25:25now you're just sitting
25:25your hands thinking
25:26well, it might be
25:27chopped off.
25:27Your first instinct, I
25:29think, with a goal now
25:29is to wait.
25:30Ah, you wait, because
25:31you don't want me to
25:32ask yourself, you know,
25:33so, yeah, no, I was
25:36wanting VAR in a couple
25:38of seasons ago before
25:39it came in, but now
25:39I'd be happy to see
25:40the back of it, to be
25:40honest.
25:41Yeah, what does Neil
25:43Critchley, the Harts
25:43boss, think of this
25:45weekend's game against
25:46Murlough?
25:46Different way of
25:47playing, yeah, and
25:49they've had some
25:50positive results, so
25:52we're expecting a
25:52tough game, a little
25:55bit more front-footed,
25:56if you like, a little
25:58bit more pressing from
26:01the front, and they're a
26:03difficult team to play
26:04against, and they've
26:05had some good results,
26:06they've backed that
26:06up, so we know it'll be
26:08a tough game away from
26:09home tomorrow.
26:11I'm going to go
26:11Harts 2-1.
26:12I'm going to go
26:13Harts 2-1 as well.
26:14Harts 2-1 as well, yeah.
26:15Yeah, okay.
26:16St Mirren against
26:17Ross County, we've got
26:18reporters there as well
26:19for this one, really
26:20looking forward to it.
26:21Ross County, I think we
26:23had them at least in the
26:25play-off with St
26:25Johnstone going down,
26:27but listen, we could
26:28all end up with egg in
26:29our faces.
26:29Who did you predict?
26:31What did you think was
26:32going to happen?
26:32St Mirren need to beat
26:33Ross County, and
26:34obviously hope Harts
26:34don't beat
26:35Motherwell.
26:36Stephen Robinson
26:37didn't really want to
26:39be embroiled in all
26:40the permutations.
26:42We win the game.
26:43As I said, we're not
26:45talking too much about
26:46top six.
26:46Top six will take
26:47care of itself,
26:48depending on things
26:49that we can't really
26:50influence.
26:51The only thing we can
26:52influence is winning
26:53the game.
26:53As I keep repeating
26:54myself, if we win the
26:55game, we'll go
26:56up on 41 points,
26:58so that is a massive
27:00achievement, and as
27:01you've rightly pointed
27:02out, it gives you a
27:03little bit of breathing
27:03space from the bottom.
27:05If it manages to get
27:05us into the top six,
27:07then we'll have a
27:08very good night.
27:10Yeah, I mean, if they
27:12get into the top six,
27:13the St Mirren boys
27:14should be going out,
27:15putting Stephen
27:16Robinson on their
27:16shoulders and saying,
27:17you know, brilliant
27:18boss, because to get
27:19them in three years in
27:20the trot would be
27:21unbelievable, wouldn't
27:22it?
27:22Yeah, it would be.
27:22I think when you look
27:23at the size of the
27:24club and the budget
27:25that they've got, they
27:27shouldn't really have
27:28been the top six.
27:28I think they're
27:29punching above their
27:29weight.
27:30They have done for
27:30two or three seasons
27:31now.
27:32I think he's a really,
27:33really good manager.
27:33I think he's very
27:34straightforward in his
27:35tactics and how he
27:36speaks to players and
27:37how we play.
27:38Everybody knows what
27:38they're doing, they're
27:39organised and they're
27:40physical.
27:42And at the end of
27:43the season, they kind
27:43of lose these best
27:44players and he somehow
27:45gets a wee gem up for
27:46maybe England or
27:47somewhere or abroad.
27:49So his recruitment's
27:49been good as well.
27:50So he's right, listen,
27:51just win the game, see
27:51what happens.
27:52You can't control the
27:53other game.
27:53If you win the game,
27:54you get in the top six,
27:55brilliant.
27:55If you don't, then
27:56you've got that wee bit
27:57of breathing space at the
27:57bottom.
27:58But I just think that,
27:59obviously I think the
28:00team that finishes six is
28:01going to finish six because
28:02there's no chance of
28:03catching Dundee, United,
28:04Aberdeen or Hibs.
28:06So I think the key thing
28:07for me is if you're
28:09sixth, you don't need
28:10to worry about getting
28:10relegated.
28:11You might end up with
28:12less points than the
28:13team that goes down,
28:14but you're in the top
28:15six.
28:15And I think that's a big
28:17relief for teams.
28:17I think when you look at
28:18a Motherwell, if Motherwell
28:19finish in the bottom
28:20six, they could get
28:21dragged into a relegation
28:22battle, same with St.
28:22Myrne.
28:23So yeah, you're wanting
28:26top six for financial
28:27reasons, but I think in
28:28terms of you don't need
28:29to worry what's behind
28:30you, I think is very,
28:31very key as well.
28:31Yeah, absolutely, which
28:32is why a lot of people
28:33have been calling for
28:34change, just this whole
28:35ruthless nature of it,
28:37St. Myrne, Motherwell,
28:38four points above what
28:39could potentially be a
28:40play-off place.
28:41Yeah.
28:42You know, and that's
28:43precarious, isn't it?
28:44I think it's so tight at
28:45the bottom end and I
28:47think you see what can
28:48happen when teams are
28:49fighting for their lives.
28:51You saw it with St.
28:51Johnson last weekend
28:52against Celtic, just
28:53upsetting the odds.
28:55I think when a team is
28:56hungry, you know, you've
28:57got something to fight
28:58for, there can be
29:00surprises along the route.
29:01I don't think anyone
29:01who's in that bottom
29:03six is safe from being
29:04dragged into it.
29:05Yeah, although we'll get
29:07to Dundee eventually, but
29:08with Ross County, they're a
29:10point at this moment ahead
29:12of Dundee, so they really
29:14will have to go for it
29:16because Dundee will be
29:17looking and saying, this
29:17is the chance for us to
29:19just flip it.
29:19Simon Murray's on really
29:22great goal scoring for him.
29:23He's the danger.
29:24He can get us out of this
29:25mess.
29:25I think you need something
29:26like that.
29:27I think if you look at
29:27teams that prevail and
29:29maybe just steer themselves
29:30away and Simon Murray has
29:32experienced him doing this
29:33before from when he was up
29:34in Dingwall with Ross
29:35County, I think you need
29:36that.
29:37You need a focal point.
29:38You need someone that can
29:39dig you out of holes,
29:40someone that can come up
29:41with goals and I think
29:42Simon Murray might be the
29:43difference between Dundee
29:44staying up and not this
29:45season.
29:45Yeah, and sometimes
29:47momentum, Tam, County,
29:49three straight defeats.
29:50This could be the fourth
29:52one.
29:53Yeah, they've lost four
29:53of the last five, Peter.
29:54Yeah, and they went on a
29:55really good run, Peter.
29:56You know, they had a
29:57couple of back-to-back
29:57wins that kind of took
29:59them away from the
29:59danger area, but yeah,
30:00they've been poor in
30:01recent weeks.
30:01I've seen them against
30:02Undie United.
30:02They lost at home,
30:03they were really poor
30:03and obviously losing to
30:05Aberdeen at home.
30:06That's two home games
30:07they've lost without
30:07scoring, so I think that
30:08would be concerning for
30:09them.
30:09They've gone away from
30:09home.
30:10They've been decent at
30:11away from home this
30:11season, but I'd fancy
30:13St. Munn strongly here.
30:14I think at home, what's
30:15at stake for them?
30:17I think St. Munn will
30:18win the game, win the
30:18game comfortably, but I
30:20don't think it'll be
30:20enough.
30:21I think the Harts will
30:21just pick them.
30:222-0 St. Munn.
30:233-0 St. Munn.
30:24Yeah, I'm going to see
30:25a St. Munn win.
30:26I'm going to see 2-0.
30:282-0.
30:29You were putting a
30:30real lot of thought
30:31into that.
30:31Yeah, I was trying to
30:32remember what I said
30:34earlier.
30:35God help us if we get
30:36back to the predictor
30:37next season, Ali, if
30:38you're going to put that
30:39much thought into it.
30:41Listen, we've gone
30:43through the permutations.
30:44Give us your thoughts
30:45on it.
30:45Who do you think is
30:47going to get the top
30:48six?
30:48Who is going to be
30:49dragged into that
30:51playoff position?
30:53And of course, let's
30:53not write off St.
30:55Johnston as well.
30:56Okay, we talked about
30:57Rangers in Europe.
30:58Let's talk about
30:59Rangers heading to
30:59Potaudry.
31:01It's a game that's
31:03got always that nice
31:04wee bit of spice.
31:05Some of it for the
31:05wrong reasons, I have
31:06to say.
31:07There's no love
31:08loss between the
31:09teams.
31:10Is there an
31:10advantage for
31:11Aberdeen in the
31:12fact that Rangers,
31:1310 of them,
31:14absolutely gave
31:15their all?
31:15Barry Ferguson
31:16said in the
31:17post-match press
31:18comments he's going
31:18to have to make
31:19changes again.
31:20Yeah, I think so.
31:21I think he'll
31:21rotate the squad.
31:23I think he'll
31:23bring fresh legs
31:24in.
31:24It was a real
31:25grueling effort
31:26last night.
31:26I thought to play
31:2880 minutes with
31:2910 men, it was
31:30against a quality
31:31outfit, a lot of
31:32running.
31:33I think he'll
31:34bring players in.
31:34They've obviously
31:35lost Rice and
31:36Sterling to
31:37injuries, so they
31:38won't play.
31:39He'll freshen the
31:40team up with a
31:40big game ahead on
31:41Thursday, but I
31:42still think he'll
31:42go as strong as
31:43possible.
31:43I think Barry
31:44knows this fixture,
31:45he knows what's
31:45at stake, what it
31:46means to the fans
31:47of both clubs, and
31:48he'll go up there
31:49wanting to win the
31:50game.
31:51But obviously the
31:51bigger picture is
31:53away from home in
31:54Spain the following
31:55Thursday.
31:56Aberdeen, for me,
31:57I've started just
31:58to have a wee bit
31:58of form again.
32:00They're getting
32:01results, they're
32:01not playing well.
32:02Ross County last
32:03week won 0, great
32:03result, wonderful
32:04goal.
32:06I think they're
32:07capable of beating
32:07Rangers, it just
32:08depends what Rangers
32:09turn up.
32:09We've spoke about
32:09it all season,
32:10Jekyll and Hyde, if
32:11they turn up and
32:12it's Dr. Jekyll, then
32:14they might go and
32:15win, but if it's
32:16not, then they'll
32:16get beat.
32:17So I'm going to
32:18sit on the fence and
32:18go for a draw here.
32:19I think Aberdeen can
32:20get a point in a
32:20high-scoring game to
32:21each.
32:22Do you know, you
32:23said Dr. Jekyll, do
32:26you know Hyde's
32:26first name?
32:29No.
32:29Ali, you're a
32:31reader of a lot of
32:32books.
32:32I would expect you
32:33to know.
32:34Don't worry, I
32:35don't know either.
32:36Don't you, John
32:37Hyde?
32:39I don't know either,
32:40Ali.
32:40I just thought, I
32:41thought you're
32:42bound to have read
32:42Jekyll and Hyde.
32:44But anyway, as far
32:46as the...
32:46The game's
32:46homework.
32:47Yeah, absolutely.
32:48As far as the
32:48Dons are concerned, and
32:50this is why, you
32:51know, we've got these
32:53games which get
32:53everybody excited at
32:54this point in the
32:55season.
32:56Aberdeen fourth, one
32:57point behind Hibs who
32:58play Dundee on this
32:59Sunday.
33:00So they've got
33:00something to play for.
33:01The permutations of
33:02this game on the
33:03Sunday is basically
33:05if Rangers lose
33:05Aberdeen and Celtic
33:06defeat Kilmarnock on
33:07the Saturday, then
33:09Celtic are officially
33:10crowned champions.
33:11Yeah, and I think it
33:12would maybe encapsulate
33:13the way that the
33:14season has played
33:15out for Celtic.
33:16I think it would be
33:17quite an anti-climatic
33:19way to win it, almost.
33:20I think having it
33:21handed to you without
33:23being there in front
33:24of your own supporters,
33:25I think it's been an
33:28odd few months for
33:29Celtic.
33:30I think since the
33:31Bayern Munich defeat
33:32and the Champions
33:33League campaign came
33:34to an end, I think
33:35there's just a sense of
33:36them coasting in some
33:38ways.
33:39I think it just looks
33:41as though it's dipped
33:41hugely.
33:43A bit of bite going out
33:44of the season for them.
33:46It's the only flat thing
33:47in the league is the
33:48fact that Celtic at the
33:50top end has just been
33:51meandering towards it,
33:53off it, winning games,
33:55nothing that's getting
33:57them any great praise,
33:58which I think from
33:59Brendan Rodgers' point
34:00of view might be
34:01slightly miffed.
34:01We'll come to him in a
34:02minute on it.
34:03But the other games
34:04mean something because
34:05Aberdeen, we always
34:08go back to it,
34:08Aberdeen, if they had
34:10even sustained half of
34:12the wins that they
34:15lost in that second
34:16period of the season,
34:17they would be in
34:17battling with Rangers,
34:19but they're not.
34:20And they'll be looking
34:21and thinking, in fact,
34:22Jimmy Tallinn himself
34:23said, even with Rangers
34:25playing against
34:25Athletic Bilbao,
34:26there's never really a
34:28good time to take
34:29advantage of them.
34:30No, I don't think so.
34:31I think they are
34:32focused on the game
34:35by game also.
34:36And we know about
34:38Aberdeen against
34:40Rangers, it's important
34:42for everyone.
34:42So I think they will be
34:44ready for the game.
34:45I think they have a
34:49good squad and so
34:53they're going to have
34:54good players on the
34:55pitch, whoever plays
34:56and also we.
34:58So I think it's going
34:59to be a really intense,
35:00a really energetic game.
35:04So I think it's going
35:06to be a good game.
35:07Yeah, I think it's
35:08going to be a good game.
35:09Sorry about the sound
35:10quality there on it.
35:11We did our absolute
35:12best.
35:13So, oh, somebody's
35:15just said to us there,
35:16thanks Gary Conner.
35:17Gary, I really do hope
35:18that you're right.
35:19He said it's Edward
35:20Hyde.
35:22Well, look that up.
35:23We've got to check it.
35:24It's just one of those
35:25things that come into
35:26my brain there.
35:27Not a lot else.
35:29Aberdeen.
35:30I'll go two each.
35:31You think two each?
35:33Rangers tired?
35:35Yeah.
35:35No result would
35:36surprise me, Peter.
35:37If Rangers turn up
35:37and play really well,
35:38they could win 3-0.
35:39If they don't, if they're
35:40rubbish, Aberdeen will
35:41beat them.
35:41You don't know what
35:42Rangers are going to get.
35:43What do you get
35:43from Aberdeen?
35:45I think they're getting
35:46a wee bit of consistency
35:47now, Peter.
35:47Unbeaten in five?
35:48Yeah, I think since
35:49they lost down at
35:51Parkhead, they've been
35:52a decent run of form.
35:53I think they've had
35:53their blip.
35:54They've got a bit
35:55of confidence back.
35:55Kevin Nisbet's
35:56starting to play well
35:57and looks fitter.
35:58A bit more solid
36:01at the back as well,
36:01Peter.
36:02You're not conceding
36:02a lot of goals.
36:03Only one defeat
36:03and nine?
36:04Yep.
36:04I'll go for two each,
36:05but as I said,
36:06it could be any score.
36:09Ali?
36:09I think Rangers will
36:10win.
36:11I think they might
36:13just edge it.
36:13I think they'll want
36:15a positive result
36:16to take out to Spain
36:17on Thursday night.
36:18I don't think they'll
36:18want to hand Celtic
36:20the title.
36:21I think there's always
36:22an element of spice
36:24in this game.
36:24I think there's always
36:25a bit of niggle.
36:26I think they'll want
36:27to win it.
36:27I think they'll want
36:28to just build on
36:30Thursday night's display
36:31and I think they'll
36:32edge it.
36:32So many Aberdeen fans
36:34saying, please,
36:35please, Ali,
36:36don't back the Dons
36:37because you never do.
36:39Was there,
36:40I don't want to pry,
36:42but was there somebody
36:43who caused you a lot
36:44of pain in the Aberdeen
36:45area in the Granite City?
36:46This is a myth
36:46that's built up.
36:48It's solely built up
36:49by Dons fans
36:49who listen to you
36:51every week.
36:52You know,
36:52there's that kind of,
36:52there's always something
36:53in the background
36:54that subconsciously
36:55can affect you
36:56and you just go
36:56against them constantly.
36:57She's just not
36:58doesn't like Aberdeen,
36:59does she?
36:59It's as simple as that,
37:00which is going to be
37:02difficult when we go
37:03up there to do a roadshow.
37:05But on that point,
37:06I have to say,
37:08I'm with you, Tam,
37:09I just think,
37:10I think Rangers
37:10will be tired.
37:11I'm not sure he can,
37:14I'm not sure Rangers
37:15are good on the front foot.
37:16That's my biggest
37:17problem with them.
37:18You know,
37:19Aberdeen will be up
37:20for the battle,
37:21you know,
37:21which, again,
37:22a lot of people
37:23get miffed at
37:24why you can get up
37:25for a game,
37:26you know,
37:26certain games.
37:27But I think they'll be up
37:28for the battle,
37:30but I just can't work out,
37:31and Barry's probably
37:32pulling his hair out,
37:33on,
37:34they can't take a game
37:35to someone.
37:36They'll leave themselves
37:37exposed.
37:39Yeah,
37:39I think it depends
37:39how Aberdeen's set up.
37:41If Aberdeen's set up
37:42to go and have a go
37:43at Rangers
37:44in the games,
37:45then a bit more open,
37:46I think that suits Rangers.
37:47I think you've seen it
37:48in games against Celtic
37:50and some of the
37:50European games,
37:51the more space there is
37:53in the better Rangers play.
37:54When they tend to have
37:56trouble is against
37:57this sort of low block,
37:58teams that come
37:59and sit in
38:00and then try and
38:00work them the week.
38:01When they've got to
38:02try and move teams about
38:03is when they've kind of
38:04toiled domestically.
38:072-2.
38:08Yeah,
38:08I gave you.
38:08What have you gone for?
38:092-1.
38:102-1 Rangers.
38:11Kenny says,
38:11it's not a myth,
38:12you haven't picked
38:13Dons in seven weeks.
38:14Now they're measuring
38:15when you haven't
38:15picked them as well,
38:17which is great.
38:18Tam and I are...
38:19Aberdeen are playing
38:20Aberdeen Reserves,
38:20she wouldn't pick them either.
38:23Absolutely.
38:25So,
38:26I listen,
38:27at the end of the day,
38:28Tam,
38:28it takes the heat off us.
38:30Celtic against Kilmarnock.
38:31Celtic are six points
38:32away from the title
38:34ahead of this game
38:35against Kilmarnock.
38:36If Celtic win
38:36and Rangers lose,
38:37as we mentioned
38:38at Aberdeen
38:38the following day,
38:39they'll be officially
38:40champions for the
38:41fourth season.
38:43Now,
38:44if Rangers,
38:46you're wondering about them,
38:47Brendan must be looking
38:48and saying,
38:49what Celtic am I going
38:51to get today?
38:51Because,
38:52certainly St Johnson
38:53have had something
38:55to play for
38:56and they got that win
38:56last week.
38:58But,
38:58interestingly enough,
38:59before we get to that,
39:01Brendan,
39:02as ever,
39:02you know,
39:03is just now coming
39:04into his own.
39:05If you're waiting
39:06on your tweet shortly,
39:07then believe me,
39:08I'm waiting on my tweet
39:10because,
39:11and look at Ali,
39:12actually going into a sweat.
39:14She hates it
39:15when the last thing
39:16she needs is me
39:17telling the truth.
39:20So,
39:20Brendan Rogers,
39:21this is what he said,
39:22no,
39:23I think change is needed.
39:24We'll bring players
39:25in to challenge
39:26the squad
39:27and the team
39:27for the summer.
39:28That's natural
39:29at any team.
39:30You need the freshness.
39:31It is either that
39:32or the manager goes.
39:35You cannot be
39:35at a club
39:36for a long period
39:36of time
39:37with the same group
39:37of players
39:38and likewise
39:39the same group
39:39of players
39:40need a different voice
39:42maybe.
39:43Ali,
39:44he's started again.
39:46It's very interesting.
39:47It kind of takes me back
39:48to Brendan's first spell
39:51when we had
39:51the Terminado
39:52press conference
39:54when we were talking
39:55about transfer
39:56windows and activity
39:58and he said
39:58if a certain scenario
39:59unfolded
40:00it would be Terminado.
40:02I think it's a
40:03very interesting
40:04press conference
40:05and I'll say that
40:06on the fact
40:06that we weren't there
40:07you're not hearing it
40:09and sometimes
40:10when you miss
40:10nuances of tone
40:12things can get
40:13misinterpreted
40:14when you're reading
40:15something in black
40:15and white
40:16so I will say that
40:17before we start
40:18to discuss it
40:18but certainly
40:19I think when you
40:20hear those quotes
40:22I think if you're
40:24a Celtic fan
40:25it would make you
40:26a little bit anxious
40:27for a manager
40:28who has one year
40:29left on his contract.
40:32I think it would
40:32maybe just make you
40:33prick your ears up
40:34and think about
40:35what might be coming next.
40:36Yeah.
40:36I'm wondering
40:38how he's going
40:38to orchestrate it
40:39you know
40:41the last thing
40:41you need
40:41is to tell the truth
40:43in a situation
40:44like this
40:44because if you do
40:45you end up
40:46getting barred
40:46that's the way
40:48they operate
40:49so quite simply
40:51I'm looking at
40:52Brendan Rogers
40:53right now
40:54and I'm thinking
40:54to myself
40:55you're either
40:55going to sign
40:56an extension
40:56because you're
40:57getting your way
40:57or you're going
40:58to have to
40:59work out
40:59your departure
40:59shortly.
41:01Yeah
41:01I can see him
41:03doing one more
41:03year Peter
41:03at Celtic
41:04and then I think
41:05he'll move on
41:05and that's just
41:06my personal opinion
41:07I think that
41:08when you look at
41:09this season
41:09I think they win
41:10the treble
41:11and I think
41:11they've got to
41:11a knockout game
41:12in Europe
41:12to go and better
41:14that again
41:14next season
41:15is going to
41:15take a lot
41:16of money
41:16and I think
41:17that in the
41:18summer
41:18he'll be wanting
41:19big players in
41:20you know
41:21obviously spent
41:229 million on
41:22Ida
41:22and 11 million
41:24on Engels
41:24that's the type
41:25of players
41:25that he'll be
41:25looking
41:25he'll be going
41:26right I want
41:26another 10 million
41:27pound player
41:27I want a 15
41:28million pound player
41:29if you want us
41:30to improve on what
41:30we've done last
41:31season
41:31we need these
41:32players in
41:32to challenge
41:32the ones we've
41:33got
41:33and I'm not
41:34sure Celtic
41:35will do that
41:36so I don't
41:37see him signing
41:38the new contract
41:39I think he'll do
41:40another year at
41:40Celtic and then
41:41I think he'll
41:41be on his way
41:41What's saying
41:42I've done my
41:43three years
41:43I think he'll
41:44do his three
41:44years Peter
41:45he's locked
41:46his contract
41:46and that'll
41:47be him
41:47and there's
41:49a lot of
41:49rumours down
41:50south about
41:50Tottenham
41:51and different
41:51clubs and I
41:52think he'd
41:52find another
41:52crack at the
41:53Premiership
41:53in England
41:55so I think
41:55he'll do
41:56another year at
41:56Celtic and I
41:57think he'll
41:57go
41:57Interestingly
41:59enough
42:00Celtic says
42:01on our feed
42:02if he does
42:02another midnight
42:03flit he won't
42:04be welcome
42:04back in Glasgow
42:05Brian says
42:07Brendan Rodgers
42:08look thoroughly
42:09fed up in his
42:11press conference
42:11I predict he'll
42:12be away season
42:13after next
42:14so
42:16and Aurora
42:19says why do
42:19we never see
42:20Brendan Rodgers
42:21in video on
42:21PLZ is he not
42:22a fan of the
42:23show no we're
42:24just barred
42:24Aurora we're
42:25barred for
42:26telling the truth
42:26which most of
42:28them in there
42:29agree with
42:29but nevertheless
42:30when Brendan
42:31orchestrates the
42:32departure I'll
42:34have my tweet
42:34ready Tam
42:35I'm absolutely
42:36buzzing at the
42:37thought of it
42:37on your
42:37individual account
42:38yes absolutely
42:39absolutely when
42:41I leave PLZ
42:43there's a few
42:43bookmarked
42:44a few tweets
42:44bookmarked
42:44absolutely
42:45by the way
42:46can I just
42:46say
42:46I have to say
42:50this and I
42:51know I joke
42:53about the tweet
42:54and everything
42:54but what we
42:55did mention
42:56when he came
42:57back
42:57you know
42:58you know
42:58what it's
42:58like nobody
42:59reads the
42:59whole column
43:00Ali because
43:01you know
43:02they're incensed
43:02by you know
43:04the sub
43:05you know
43:06the headline
43:07on it
43:07but quite
43:08simply he
43:09is a really
43:10good coach
43:11and that's
43:15exactly what I'd
43:15written
43:15he's back
43:16he's a really
43:17good coach
43:17he has to win
43:18over the Celtic
43:19fans
43:19his remit
43:20is quite simply
43:21he's back
43:22because the
43:23train was
43:25at the
43:25station
43:25where he
43:26didn't have
43:26a job
43:27and he
43:27was the
43:27best option
43:28that Celtic
43:28had to
43:29coax back
43:30to Celtic
43:30Park
43:31he's a good
43:32coach
43:33the remit
43:33was
43:34get us
43:35to a
43:35knockout
43:35stage
43:36that's
43:36that's
43:37basically
43:37what the
43:37board would
43:38have said
43:38get us
43:38to a
43:39knockout
43:39stage
43:39you know
43:40take it
43:41to another
43:42level
43:42there
43:42because
43:42domestically
43:43you're
43:43going to
43:44win the
43:44league
43:44Rangers
43:44can't
43:45match
43:45you
43:45financially
43:45we'll
43:46back
43:46you
43:47and get
43:48us
43:48to that
43:49now
43:49for me
43:50personally
43:50looking at
43:51Brendan as
43:51a coach
43:52I think
43:54he's a
43:54great
43:54coach
43:55I thought
43:55the performance
43:56against Bayern
43:57Munich
43:57was the
43:57best I'd
43:58seen in
43:58about 20
43:59years
43:59of watching
44:00Celtic
44:00I'm going
44:01back to
44:01you know
44:02I think
44:03I've got to
44:03mention
44:03Neil Lennon
44:04Gordon Strachan
44:05produced great
44:05performances
44:06Martin O'Neill
44:07as well
44:08but it was
44:08just
44:09it was great
44:10football to
44:10watch that
44:11night in
44:11the Allianz
44:12arena
44:12and I
44:13agree with
44:14you
44:14I think
44:15he's
44:15basically
44:16in a
44:16situation
44:16now
44:17where
44:17he's
44:18got to
44:19that point
44:19again
44:20where
44:20as a
44:20good
44:21coach
44:21no
44:22it's not
44:23that
44:24it's not
44:24that point
44:25the point
44:26he's at
44:26is the same
44:27as he was
44:27at the last
44:28time
44:28which is
44:29this is a
44:30board who
44:30have a
44:31ceiling point
44:32in the
44:32ambition
44:32and he
44:33wants them
44:34to take
44:35that next
44:35step
44:36and they
44:36will not
44:36do it
44:37I can't
44:38I can't
44:39believe
44:40that
44:40would be
44:41anything
44:41new
44:42I think
44:43Celtic
44:44ceiling
44:45really
44:45comes
44:45down
44:46to
44:46financial
44:46choices
44:47and
44:48decisions
44:48whatever
44:48you
44:49think
44:49of
44:49that
44:49I
44:50think
44:50it's
44:50a
44:50very
44:51clear
44:51remit
44:52I don't
44:52think
44:52there would
44:52have been
44:53any
44:53ambiguity
44:54about it
44:55I don't
44:55think
44:55when the
44:57conversation
44:57was had
44:58with Brendan
44:58Rogers
44:59about coming
44:59back for
45:00a second
45:00stint
45:01I think
45:02there would
45:03have been
45:04no significant
45:04change
45:05I think
45:06he would
45:06have known
45:06what the
45:07resources are
45:08There is a
45:09significant
45:09change though
45:10Ali
45:10I'm going to
45:12flip it
45:12because you
45:12have to
45:13have balance
45:15and you
45:15have to
45:15be fair
45:16with
45:17the board
45:19and with
45:20Brendan
45:20Rogers
45:20if we're
45:20going to
45:21offer
45:21any kind
45:22of a
45:22debate
45:23on this
45:24the board
45:25to their
45:25credit
45:26have
45:26backed
45:26them
45:27they've
45:27spent
45:2811 million
45:29pounds
45:30on
45:30Arna
45:31Engels
45:329 million
45:33on
45:33Adam
45:33Eda
45:34so to
45:34their
45:34credit
45:35to be
45:35fair
45:36if you
45:36go back
45:37the Celtic
45:37board
45:37have
45:38there's
45:38a
45:39mythology
45:40about it
45:40being a
45:41very
45:41parsimonious
45:42board
45:42if you
45:42go back
45:43across
45:43the last
45:43decade
45:44and look
45:45at the
45:45transfer
45:45fees
45:46and
45:46outlets
45:46there
45:46has
45:47been
45:47money
45:47spent
45:47Edward
45:48was
45:489
45:49million
45:49euros
45:50too
45:50the
45:51strategy
45:51is
45:51clear
45:52and it
45:52is
45:52clear
45:53with
45:53Engels
45:53too
45:54you spend
45:54money
45:55on
45:55young
45:55talented
45:56players
45:56that you
45:57can
45:57develop
45:57and
45:58subsequently
45:58sell
45:58on
45:59it's
45:59not a
45:59huge
45:59secret
46:00it's
46:00the same
46:01kind of
46:01strategy
46:01that has
46:02been in
46:03place
46:03what they're
46:03not going
46:04to probably
46:04do
46:05is go and
46:05spend
46:0615 million
46:08euros
46:08maybe on a
46:08guy at
46:0928 or
46:1029
46:10that you
46:11know
46:11is
46:13oven ready
46:14to walk
46:15into your
46:15first team
46:16might be
46:16Champions
46:16League
46:17ready
46:17but who
46:18you're not
46:18going to
46:19make any
46:19money on
46:20down the
46:21line
46:21they're
46:21going to
46:21come and
46:22sign a
46:22three year
46:22contract
46:23in the
46:23peak
46:24years
46:24or best
46:24years
46:25and in
46:25Glasgow
46:26that would
46:26be a
46:27difference
46:27in strategy
46:29what Celtic
46:30have done
46:31isn't really
46:32particularly
46:32different
46:32I slightly
46:34disagree on
46:35the fact
46:36that they
46:36had a
46:37ceiling
46:37point
46:37with
46:38certain
46:38amount
46:38of
46:39money
46:39that they
46:39would
46:39spend
46:40and they
46:40kept
46:41going
46:41for
46:42these
46:42potential
46:43one
46:43for the

53:57you've been a wee bit
53:58cagey
53:59McConnell I have to tell you
54:00because you know
54:01the mechanics of this show now
54:02you know that if you've got an opinion
54:04it's out there
54:05so you've been a wee bit cagey
54:07too early
54:08Johnson will stay up
54:09best unless she's saying
54:10yeah that's what she's saying
54:11but we're not quite getting there
54:12we'll drag her out of her shortly
54:14Hibbs against
54:15Dundee
54:18it's just all great for them isn't it
54:21yeah it's really positive at the minute
54:22Peter it's a great time to be a Hibbs fan
54:24and I don't think I've said that too many times
54:25in the last three or four seasons
54:26brilliant runner form
54:28going to Ibrox last week
54:30winning comfortably
54:30you know
54:31this would be a game in the past
54:33you would think
54:33oh they've just beat Rangers
54:34they're playing Dundee at home
54:35that's a banana skin
54:36no Hibbs it
54:36and all this nonsense
54:37but
54:37you're just so consistent at the minute
54:39they're grinding out results
54:40when they're playing well
54:41and
54:42I think they'll win again
54:43I think they'll win
54:44I think they'll beat Dundee
54:44and I think they'll
54:46they'll go further ahead
54:47in the race for third
54:48but just
54:49just really really good at the minute
54:50to have support
54:51of watching the team play
54:52you know
54:52they're so organised
54:53Peter they're hard to break down
54:54they've got pace
54:55in the counter
54:55you know
54:56David Gray
54:56deserves enormous credit
54:58for where they were
54:58the last time they played Dundee
55:00you know
55:014-1
55:01at Dens Park
55:02and he looked as if he was going to lose his job
55:04to now be sitting in third
55:05probably going to run a form
55:07and if he finishes third
55:08then he'll be in the run
55:08for manager here
55:09I'm sure as well
55:10so
55:10comfortable win for Hibbs
55:12for me
55:123-1
55:12yeah
55:13okay I'm going to go
55:14the Hibbs to win it
55:15narrowly
55:162-1
55:16it's a battle of goals isn't it
55:18Boyle firing in all cylinders
55:19Simon Murray firing in all cylinders
55:21I'm going for Hibbs
55:22yeah
55:23can't see beyond Hibbs
55:24okay
55:25again
55:26just as we mentioned this
55:27because obviously we've got some

56:14but there's some big news
56:15that I hope that you will
56:16embrace coming up next week
56:18so one other thing
56:20I've got to mention
56:20is you know
56:21United against Falkirk
56:23you know
56:24Scott Brown could put
56:25a little span on the works
56:26but Livingston
56:27if they slip up
56:28suddenly the Bairns
56:29could be looking
56:30at the return
56:31to the Scottish Premiership
56:33yeah I think it's very exciting
56:34in the championship
56:35I think Falkirk
56:36would have a lot to offer
56:37I think coming up
56:38just the way that they play
56:39and I think
56:42yeah
56:42I can't see past Falkirk
56:44either
56:44yeah
56:45just one little footnote
56:47Mo Salah
56:48you'll be happy
56:48oh delighted
56:49you'll be happy
56:50was that the big one you wanted
56:51or would you prefer
56:51Tim to the other two
56:52I want to see
56:54Van Dijk stay
56:56I'm delighted
56:57Mo Salah's staying
56:58I'm amazed
56:59and absolutely gobsmacked
57:01that people are wanting
57:02rid of Andy Robertson
57:03I'm absolutely gobsmacked
57:04yeah I've seen that
57:05I think he's had a wee dip
57:06this season Peter
57:06but he's getting written off
57:07a few Liverpool supporters
57:08but I think they've all
57:10signed a lift back in the summer
57:11somebody to come in
57:12and challenge him
57:12because I don't think
57:12the boy Simicas
57:13is up to it
57:15but yeah
57:16it's great business
57:17for Liverpool
57:17I mean if you were to go
57:19and try and sign a guy
57:20of Salah's quality
57:21much would it cost you
57:22so I think when you go
57:22to something like that
57:23there you weigh him in
57:24and we'll see if he'll
57:25finish his career
57:26at Liverpool
57:26and hopefully Van Dijk
57:27joins him
57:28yeah
57:28I mean it just shows you
57:30how good he is
57:30because if you were looking
57:32at your greatest ever
57:32at living
57:33suddenly Salah's
57:34got to be in there
57:35yeah
