00:00National's leader David Littleproud has been in the outback town of Winton this morning
00:07in Central West Queensland. He's actually in his home electorate of Maranoa which has
00:12a very safe margin of about 22%. This morning Mr Littleproud announced money for a new aged
00:20care facility, a low care aged care facility in Winton. So the National Coalition Government
00:26would throw 8 million dollars towards that new facility and that's a really big issue
00:31here in town. Speaking to locals there is a very much an ageing population in Winton and
00:38when people do need to move into aged care often the nearest facility is in Longreach which
00:44is some 175 kilometres away. That's why locals here this morning have definitely received
00:51this announcement well. There was actually quite a bit of emotion as Mr Littleproud
00:55was talking to them about that funding. My concerns are my mum and dad would have to
01:01leave town which would then impact their mental health to have to leave where they're born
01:09and bred. Dad is 85 and mum is nearly 80 and the access to the hospital is not a suitable
01:16thing when there's no people can't be brought down to socialise and engage with their community and their friends.
01:23It means that dad has to travel approximately 1500 kilometres to go and visit mum and although dad has been coming down maybe say every three months or so, dad's getting a lot older and he's finding it a lot harder to travel so I'm not quite sure how much longer he's going to be able to come down and be able to come down and be able to travel.
01:46visit mum which is devastating.
01:49Winton is celebrating its 150th year birthday this week. David Littleproud will be here for
01:55a bit of that today and then he flies to Thargaminda also in his electorate which is dealing with
02:01the devastating impact of floods.
