00:05Gazette and today I had the privilege of being able to go down to the promenade in Blackpool
00:09in the sunshine to enjoy what was a pretty special day with the opening of the new Wendy's
00:15on the promenade itself. Lovely view, lovely weather right under the Blackpool Tower. It
00:21was the absolutely perfect setting for the opening of Blackpool's latest fast food restaurant
00:27and it's an iconic brand. It's a Wendy's, it's famous for American culture, it's famous for
00:32Square Burgers and their Frosties which are kind of like ice cream slash milkshake things which
00:37kind of meet in between the two of those. So I was really keen to go down and try it out,
00:41see what it was like, get a taste of the atmosphere, get a taste of the food itself obviously as well
00:45and just see what the buzz is like and that buzz was growing by the minute as soon as I got there
00:49about 10 o'clock before the restaurant opened at half past because Wendy's themselves had promised
00:54that if anyone was in the queue before their half 10 opening time they would be able to get a free
01:00burger and try it out and it created a massive buzz. There was music playing, there were people queuing up,
01:05they were having a great time in the sunshine ready to try out a Wendy's burger and I was really
01:10enjoying being able to speak to people, get the vibe, find out what they were most looking forward
01:13to trying from what is essentially a brand new fast food chain with their new presence in the town.
01:19So yeah, really excited to kind of go down and try it out. Here's how it went. Cheers.

01:34This was a moment countless people turned out in Blackpool for the opening of the brand new Wendy's
01:45right on the promenade and as you can see, plenty of people were keen to grab themselves a free burger
01:50under the Blackpool Tower.
01:59So guys, what's brought you down here today?
02:02The new stop.
02:04Yeah.
02:04It's going to be a good one.
02:07I don't know, I hope so.
02:08I've never had it before.
02:08You've never had it before?
02:09I've never had it before, no.
02:10So there's curiosity, you're trying something new, what about it?
02:13Yeah, you see it a lot on telly and that, don't you know, like American TV shows.
02:18It's a classic American brand, isn't it?
02:19Yeah, that's the thing.
02:20So it's iconic in America, so we might as well try it.
02:23Do you know anything about it?
02:24Like, got me into it?
02:25I know the burgers are square, that's it.
02:27It's about it.
02:28Literally.
02:28You've got the famous Frosty Fingers with a dessert, haven't they?
02:31Yeah, apparently you're meant to stick your chips in it, so I'll need to try that.
02:34You're going to have a bath?
02:35Yeah, I'll give it a go.
02:36What, better way to start a Thursday?
02:37Oh, definitely.
02:39So, Colin, what's brought you down here today?
02:41Eh, just Wendy's, the burgers, to try it, see if it's better than McDonald's and Burger
02:47Guy, and I hope it's a first-class start, because I'm going to love the burgers.
02:52Yeah.
02:53And do you know anything about it before?
02:54Have you heard about it before?
02:55Eh, I've never heard it before.
02:57Eh, I used to stay in Scotland, so hopefully it's good, hopefully it's amazing.
03:02Do you know it as like an American brand?
03:03Are you intrigued to find out what it's like?
03:05Have you heard of it ever before?
03:06I've heard it before, but eh, I knew it's been American.
03:10Yeah.
03:10And do you know anything about it?
03:12Nah, nobody's right.
03:13Have you heard of the square burgers they do, apparently?
03:15Aye.
03:15Yeah, are you going to try those?
03:17I'm going to try the cinnamon donuts as well.
03:19Yeah.
03:19So you've got your order all sorted out?
03:21Aye.
03:21Brilliant stuff.
03:22Great.
03:24Before long, the store was open for business as the first customer used his voucher, headed
03:29up to the counter, and managed to pick up his free burger.
03:33He was soon joined by a huge queue of people, all keen to try the new Wendy's, see what all
03:38the fuss was about, grab their free food and enjoy a pretty nice open space, dead clean,
03:43dead fresh, dead new, and it seemed to be impressing a lot of the locals.
03:47So after getting a taste and a bit of a feel for the buzz around the place as people went
03:52in, I decided I had to try the food for myself as well.
03:54I'd never had Wendy's before.
03:56I was going into it with plenty of expectation because it looked really good.
03:59The smell in there was really nice.
04:01The stuff people were coming out with looked delicious.
04:03So I thought, when in Rome, let's have a bash.
04:06Let's try it out.
04:06Here's how it went.
04:09Now, Wendy's were good enough to provide me with a bit of a tasting menu, a little bit
04:13of everything.
04:14Obviously, I couldn't manage to eat it all, but I thought I'd have a bash at everything,
04:17starting with one of their classic burgers, which was delicious.
04:20Really, really impressed by this.
04:22It was kind of supplemented nicely by some sides.
04:24I had these little chicken nugget style things, which they came in two different varieties,
04:28kind of regular and a spicy.
04:30This is the spicy one.
04:31That was really nice.
04:32Absolutely delicious.
04:33And then there were a couple of Frosties for me to try as well, the vanilla and the chocolate.
04:37Both excellent.
04:38Plus, they had these loaded fries, which one of them was chili and the other one was bacon
04:42and cheese.
04:43Both of them were really, really nice in their own right.
04:45A nice touch.
04:46Not usually the kind of thing you get at a fast food place, but really excellent additions
04:49as well.
04:50Right, guys, that about wraps it up for my day at Wendy's.
04:54Really, really pleased to be able to go down there and just kind of get a vibe for the
04:57whole thing.
04:58People turned out in their droves.
04:59There was a huge queue out the door, which just goes to show the excitement for the new
05:03store, the new branch on the promenade.
05:06And when I got in there myself, I must say I was really impressed by the quality of the
05:09food, the kind of heftiness of the portions, just how delicious it all was.
05:13That was really, really, really not surprising, but not something you'd inherently expect
05:18from fast food, I was just really taken by how good it was.
05:20I definitely think I'd lean towards that 100% over something like Mackey's or Burger
05:25King's.
05:25So yeah, overall, really impressed.
