00:00It's hard to imagine a more horrifying set of circumstances.
00:05You know, Nate Hockman, I absolutely trust, you know, his judgment on public safety matters.
00:10He's doing a great job reversing the insanity that George Gascon brought to that jurisdiction.
00:16But, you know, this is a perfect example, though, of why you shouldn't have one person,
00:22the governor, overriding the will of the people of California,
00:25is that the people of our state have said in these most ghastly, horrific of circumstances,
00:30they want this to be an option for purposes not just of retribution and justice,
00:35but deterrence as well, because, you know, even if it has a relatively attenuated impact
00:42on deterring, you know, some of these heinous crimes,
00:45if there's some chance that the availability of capital punishment might have made a difference,
00:50might have stopped something like this from occurring,
00:52the people of California have said that that should be an option.
00:55Well, the answer is yes, because this is what the people of California voted for.
00:58This was put to a direct vote on the ballot in, I believe it was 2014 or 2016, maybe.
01:062016, I think it was.
01:07And the people of California overwhelmingly said that this should be an option
01:11in the most heinous of cases like this one.
01:16And Gavin Newsom took office and almost immediately took it upon himself
01:21to unilaterally overturn the will of the people of California and declare this moratorium,
01:28you know, mostly just to get himself positive press coverage or to, you know,
01:33promote himself to far left groups when he was literally overturning the results of a democratic election.
01:41And this is part and parcel of the misguided, reckless approach to criminal justice and public safety
01:49that Newsom has engineered in California that has caused violent crime to increase substantially during his tenure.
01:55And this is part of the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to the right to
