Pompey boss John Mousinho gives his verdict on the 1-0 loss at Coventry City.
Transcript
00:00I don't know, I'm not entirely sure what to say about that and we just have to find another way of trying to produce.
00:12Can you put an explanation as to why this keeps happening?
00:15No, if I had the explanation then we even were deliberate in terms of the substitutions today to try and shore things up later on.
00:24We tried to make a couple of substitutions at Preston and also at Norwell to try and change how the last 5-10 minutes of the game went.
00:35We did that and had to deal with the physical threat of Coventry going forward and I thought we'd dealt with it.
00:40We'd dealt with it and we fortunately switched off for one moment and that was it, the ball was in the back of the net.
00:47And there were so many times in the game and opportunities that I thought, OK, Coventry score from this, I'll live with it.
00:55I just can't live with the way to consider that goal, I can't.
00:58We've got a left back coming across challenging with this centre half but you haven't done all game and all of a sudden they're Man's 3 at the back post.
01:05I can't understand it for life anymore.
01:07Just for strength, look, overall how pleased were you with 99%?
01:12I thought the first half in particular was really good, so I thought we were really good in the first half.
01:17We played some good football, we sat in and made it difficult for Coventry and we looked like a real threat on the counter.
01:23So I thought we looked a real threat on the counter and had a couple of really good chances.
01:26We restricted Coventry to very, very few.
01:29And in the second half, it was going to be a bit of pressure but I thought we looked organised and we looked like we defended pretty well.
01:35There was one chance on the set piece.
01:38But really, the strange thing is, it's the hardest thing to do sometimes as a head coach when you're going well.
01:45How does what I'm saying now and how does what I'm saying to the players change so drastically with such a small, small area of the game?
01:54But unfortunately it does, that's the reality.
01:56The reality is that if you don't take care of those tiny, tiny bits then you get punished and you end up on the wrong end of the result.
02:04What was the thing behind the two changes tonight?
02:07I'm trying to remember what they were.
02:10Waddingham and Oshish.
02:12We wanted to fresh things up from the weekend, we got back to back travel.
02:16That was the first sort of call and they had to give us something different.
02:23I thought Tom came on, or Tom started and did really well.
02:26I thought it was a handful, I thought he just blew up in the second half, that was the reason that we brought him off.
02:30So I was really, really pleased with that and a deal the same and a royal contribution.
02:34So yeah, it was just to fresh things up and take information as well.
02:38How do you now lift everyone yourself?
02:40Because three days now you've got a massive game.
02:44Yeah, I think we should, we should be able to, everybody should be able to lift themselves anyway.
02:51Because we're in a position now where we've got that, the game is so monumental for both clubs.
02:59And yeah, we have to make sure we show up and we have to make sure we do the business.
03:03So I don't think it needs any motivation.
03:05We just have to be very much more realistic about where we are.
03:09The lads have to be much more realistic about the fact that we can't keep doing this.
03:15We just can't keep doing it.
03:16If we do, we'll get punished and we won't leave each year.
03:19And just last one, I had it down to Norse, which you're not going to score today.
03:22Was that injury or selection?
03:23Injury, felt.
03:24Felt is carefully trained.
03:26So we're waiting to see which comes in tomorrow.
