00:00Hi, I'm Lesley. I am the owner of Little Owl Glass. I'm a fused glass artist and I absolutely love making lovely pieces of jewellery and glass art. It's so relaxing. It helps me with my mental health and I love going to craft fairs and meeting all my friends and making new friends. It's just brilliant.
00:25And this is my studio. Welcome.
00:30When did you make your first piece of fused glass? How did it all begin?
00:34So my very first piece was at a workshop that I joined in with. It was for children and I asked if I could come and do a piece.
00:47And I made a little dinosaur for my unborn son at the time. And that just sparked my love of fused glass. It was so good to do. I wanted to do more.
01:00Would you be able to talk us through the process of making the piece that's in your hands?
01:03Your hands.
01:04Okay, so this piece is a contour fuse. So basically it's 720 degrees in the kiln. This is Malcolm. And as you can see, it's made with, it's called frit. And if you think of rock salt, it's that consistency. And these pieces are merini. And they're made by a lady in Croatia, Tabitha Borom.
01:32And they're amazing. They're made like a toffee. And it's just amazing. And the rest is this powder. And I get a pair of tweezers. And I add the little individual pieces a bit at a time. It does take some time. But again, it's just mindfulness. It's great.
01:50And you also run workshops. I do run workshops. I really loved teaching about fused glass and getting people to take some time out of their schedule just to do something creative.

02:07Do something creative. And I love how people come to my workshop and say, I've got no creativity. I'm not artistic at all. And you'll be amazed at what they make. It is brilliant. They are creative. They are artistic. Because what they've made is just really, really good. And they've taken that time just to learn something new. And make something pretty.
02:29And yeah, I really, really enjoy passing on my knowledge and teaching people about fused glass.
