00:00Hi, I'm digital reporter Amy Seddon and the Lancashire comedian John Richardson
00:06has taken to social media to announce a huge career change. Take a look at that video next.
00:14Hello everyone, it's John Richardson here. I just thought I'd give you a little update. I don't
00:17really do social media updates and I'll tell you why because I don't think anyone cares but I have
00:22a little bit of news. I've obviously been taking a little bit of a break from stand-up and it's
00:28really made me want to carry on taking a break from stand-up. I've been thinking a lot about a
00:34diary entry that I found from 1997. It's this one, should hopefully be on screen now. I'm 14 years
00:42old, says although I would love to be a stand-up comedian I'll probably end up being a teacher.
00:48I've been thinking a lot about that. I've loved being a comedian, it was absolutely the right choice
00:52but I've decided it would have been nice to try the other option so that's exactly what I'm going to do.
00:58I've been doing some training. I've taken a teaching position. I will update you as and when I can
01:06but that's all for me for now. Just to let you know that's where I've been. I'll keep you posted. Bye.
01:11Hello everyone.
01:12But is John entirely being truthful? Rather than actually joining the teaching profession, John's
01:18real news is that he's joining the cast of the BBC drama, Waterloo Road, as a teacher in its upcoming series.
01:25In a new statement, the comic said, I wanted to be a teacher growing up so hopefully this role will put
01:30all those ambitions to bed and I can stop telling my friends and family that I'll be testing them on
01:36what I've been saying or telling audiences on tour that it's their own time they're wasting.
