00:00Hi, I'm digital reporter Amy Seddon. Great British Bake Off is finally back on our screens
00:07and this series sees two women from Lancashire battling it out amongst the rest of them to
00:11be named Best Amateur Baker. First up, meet 19-year-old dentistry student, Samaya. Currently
00:18on her gap year, Samaya is indulging her sweet tooth before going on to study dentistry.
00:24She lives in Lancashire with her parents and siblings and not only aced her sciences but
00:28is incredibly creative too. She is a keen sewer, making her own clothes and has recently
00:33taken up photography. An entirely self-taught baker, Samaya meticulously researched her
00:40creations, combining myriad techniques and recipes to create an eclectic and imaginative
00:44fusion of cultures and flavours. The project that confirmed her love for baking was a macaroon
00:50tower she made for her aunt's Mendi wedding celebration. The result stood one metre tall
00:55including 240 macaroons in four different flavours and a cascade of flowers. Next up,
01:02meet 53-year-old senior category manager, Jill. Jill is convinced that her love of precision
01:08data and her inherent creativity are the perfect match for successful baking. She can't remember
01:14a time when she didn't bake. Growing up, baking was very much a family activity. Since her
01:20father passed away in 2015, Jill has used baking as a source of comfort and has put
01:24her skills to good use, raising money for Alzheimer's charities in his memory. Pies,
01:30cakes and pastry, including her dad's signature lemon meringue pie, were staples of her childhood
01:34so her baking is very much traditional in style with a modern twist. Her sticky toffee
01:39Christmas pudding has been a hit at family celebrations for the past five years. Jill's
01:44claim to fame? In 1993, she was the UK's youngest ever driving instructor, aged 21.
01:50Us at the Lancashire Post wish our contestants from Lancashire great luck on the Great British Bake-Off.
