00:00This exhibition came from an idea to really redefine and show what black art
00:08is and what a global majority art is. A lot of the times when projects relating
00:13to you know a lot of people of colour and global majority artists kind of sits
00:18within the frame of kind of like looking at the trauma, looking at slavery and you
00:23know for a lot of people it's traumatic to work that way you know it's it's
00:27very reliant on the people that it affects to have the conversation so for
00:32this project I really wanted to allow the artists to explore their identity,
00:37their lived experience in a way that they wanted to. So we hired the seven
00:42artists to over the last six months create work but they were influenced by
00:47six workshops which were done run by six creative professionals. So we hired this
00:53Dr Adeola Dwellis who is an incredible performance artist and professor and
00:58doctor. We also had Joshua Duncor who is an incredible visual painter who works a lot
01:05in transfers and oil painting. We had an incredible artist called Katrin who
01:11works in ceramics. I did a workshop in printmaking so it was really really
01:16wanted to not only give the artists an opportunity to explore their own practice
01:21but to explore other practices as well and to really experiment. It's been
01:25really nice seeing kind of sitting in the background and seeing all these
01:28artists communicate during during these process and kind of like through the
01:33projects like chats and stuff like that and kind of actually take a step back and
01:36actually saying wow you know the conversations I've had of institutions
01:40saying there's no they don't know where to look for diverse artists for
01:43projects as of that it's kind of like I've literally got a whole chat of it
01:47going on here so it's really proven to me that you know there is still a
01:52disconnect between kind of the institutional mindset and what artists are
01:55doing and how they're doing it. You know we can show society and show Welsh
01:59society as a whole that there is so many different elements to it and that it's
02:04celebrated rather than trying to divide it.
