00:00To help farmers use different technologies, a research center in Benguet is a great help in the production of high-quality planting materials for root crops.
00:11Debbie Gasinga of PIA Cordillera has news for the country.
00:18The Northern Philippine Root Crops Research and Training Center or NPRCRTC in Benguet State University
00:24is one of the two organizations that conducts national root crop research, development, and extension activities.
00:31According to Director Teresita Masangkay, they use the conventional way, aeroponic system, and drip irrigation system.
00:38We felt that the need for seed, quality seed, is really needed in the Cordillera.
00:46So our mission now is to produce, to be a quality seed producer of root crop.
00:54Through new technologies, they can produce more tuberlets.
00:59They also use tissue culture, the process of preserving and growing cells, tissues, or organs in an artificial environment.
01:08Tissue cultured plantlets are also used as planting materials in seed production greenhouses, which are distributed to farmers.
01:17If we have a problem, they are the ones who contact me to see how, and they are the ones who are the originators of the in-vitro.
01:33NPRCRTC is a partner with other government agencies for the development of said technologies that will surely help farmers.
