00:00The Archdiocese of Cebu and the Department of Tourism
00:02continue to call for the return of the sixth pulpit panel
00:06owned by the Bolgian Church.
00:08A historian has an idea to trace the missing antiquities of the Church.
00:13Jesse Atienza is in the report.
00:21After four decades,
00:23the five original pulpit panels of the Archdiocesan Shrine
00:28of Nuestra Senora del Patrocinio de Maria Santissima o Boloon Church
00:34were returned by the National Museum of the Philippines, or NMP,
00:38to the four missing pulpit panels.
00:41The artifacts were discovered during an exhibit in 2024.
00:46According to the NMP,
00:48these were donated by a private family last year.
00:52The NMP also argued that the panels were legally acquired.
00:56It was not easy to recover the four missing panels
01:00because the negotiation was long
01:03between the NMP and the Cebu Provincial Government.
01:07To date,
01:08there is still one missing pulpit panel
01:10that is believed to be in the hands of an antique collector.
01:14It is a pity that the panels are not found anymore.
01:23I support the position of the Archdiocese of Cebu
01:32and the Provincial Government of Cebu and the people of Boloon
01:35that we should return the panels to the Church of Boloon.
01:43The panels are a symbol of the Church
01:48and a good symbol of our faith as Cebuanos.
01:56But according to a historian,
01:58only a few panels were found in the sacred antiques
02:01that were stolen in the Churches in the 1980s.
02:05The Archdiocese of Cebu is very brave
02:08for admitting that the panels were lost during a parade
02:11and they identified the priest.
02:12So that's a very brave move on the part of the Archdiocese
02:16that something like that happened.
02:17And for a long time,
02:18I think nobody wanted to talk about it.
02:21The antique collectors, they should return what they have stolen.
02:25They cannot bring it to the Church in the next life.
02:28Many of these are considered sacred objects.
02:32So it's a sacrilege, a big sin
02:35that you know it came from the Church.
02:38Upon the return of the four pulpit panels,
02:41they were all removed
02:43to discuss and look for other sacred items
02:47owned by the Churches.
02:50First of all, all Churches should do an inventory.
02:52What were really lost?
02:54Look for old photographs
02:56and expose that we lost these things.
