FEU fortifies Final Four bid, weathers UP's wild comeback bid

The FEU Lady Tamaraws fortified their UAAP Season 87 women's Final Four bid after weathering the UP Fighting Maroons' wild fourth set comeback bid, 25-21, 25-16, 14-25, 26-24, at the Smart Araneta Coliseum on April 6, 2025.

Faida Bakanke hammered 20 points on top of seven digs to lead the Lady Tamaraws, who improved to third place with a 7-4 slate and dealt the fifth-running Fighting Maroons their sixth loss in 11 games (5-6).

Tin Ubaldo tossed 17 excellent sets and logged five points including the match-clinching denial as FEU recovered just in time after relinquishing a 12-3 lead and falling to a 16-20 hole, getting its bearings back to finish the match in four sets.

00:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to our post-match press conference, congratulations to the FPU
00:28Lady Tamarals for beating the UP Fighting Maroons in 4 sets.
00:33The Lady Tamarals are now in joint 3rd place with the UST Golden Tiger Sets at 7-4.
00:39We have Coach Tina Sara, Pailo Bakanke, and Chennie Tagao.
00:44Coach, congratulations for this victory, it was a back and forth.
00:484th set, you won 12-3, then UP won 20-16, but you were able to catch up and you were able to win.
00:57What can you say about the girls' performance in the 4th set?
01:02It was like I was watching an action movie, it was so sudden.
01:07It was hard for me to take the lead.
01:11But I saw the players' maturity, how they handled the 4 points.
01:17So I'm very happy that we had a turnout like that.
01:21Like I said, it was like an action movie, but everyone was happy.
01:27So thank you, thank you Chennie.
01:32To Chennie, you had 13 attacks, 1 service ace, 18 receptions, and 3 digs.
01:39So it's very important to match this because of course, your position in the top 4 is good.
01:45What can you say about your comeback after losing to UP in the 1st round?
01:50Of course, it's very important for us to go to the 2nd round because they told us that it's a must-win game.
01:58We need to go there.
02:00It's not like we're fighting, but we need to have a good standing because we have a rule.
02:05This is the 2nd round, so we're very happy because our efforts are showing.
02:12But yeah, it's still a job.
02:15To Paida, you had 20 points on 17 of 13 attacks, 3 blocks, and 7 digs.
02:21So you had a lot of crucial spikes in the 4th set.
02:27So how happy are you right now that FU is still in 3rd place in the standings?
02:33What can you say?
02:35First, I want to say thank God for that.
02:39It was not easy.
02:41When I was thinking in the 1st round, it was again UP.
02:45So it's my motivation to be back again and again with UP.
02:50To show who I am and who we are.
02:53We cannot be done again with you and you with UP.
03:00So that is why I want to adjust myself and improve my spike of defense.
03:07So I'm so happy.
03:12And then also, I'm so happy with my teammates.
03:18So that means without them, I cannot do everything.
03:22I cannot spike, I cannot defense.
03:24They are always there for me.
03:26They are always there to push me to be happy and enjoy.
03:34Thank you, Paida.
03:35Okay, the floor is open.
