00:00The US President Donald Trump announced an additional tax rate for all goods brought to the United States.
00:13We are talking about 24%.
00:15This means that the goods produced by Malaysia and sold to the United States will increase in price.
00:23Yesterday, one day in the morning until the evening, there was a power meeting involving all ministers.
00:32Yesterday, the ministers were present to see how we can take actions that can reduce our pressure.
00:44This is not our plan.
00:46But there are some actions that are out of our expectations and efforts.
00:51This is called unpredictability.
00:57A country that has become a pillar of free trade is now placing a price that is contrary to the spirit of free trade.
01:09For Malaysia, the US is still the number one trading partner, apart from China and Germany.
01:19In the beginning, we were not affected.
01:21But we are still in doubt.
01:24I personally contacted several figures close to me who are close to Trump.
01:30And yesterday, the foreign minister, Datuk Maasan, received a phone call from the Rubio Foundation to try to continue the discussion.
01:42All day yesterday, I contacted the presidents of Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, and Thailand
01:53to get an agreement with ASEAN.
01:56But at the same time, in consultation with all ASEAN leaders, including Mr. Sultan Brunei yesterday,
02:04all suggested that we should be more careful.
02:09The strength of Indonesia must be strong.
02:11The strength of ASEAN must be strong.
02:14But we can't be stupid in taking actions because there is no certainty where those actions are.
