00:00Now, it's faster to give and receive information.
00:04It's also faster to spread false news.
00:07That's why fake news is not a problem anymore.
00:11But how can we be more predictable?
00:14Let's find out in the center of the news, Christian Vascones.
00:18Bayan, have you ever tried to believe in what you see and read on your feed on social media?
00:24Even if you haven't verified if it's true or not?
00:28Oh no, you might be one of the millions of Filipinos who are victimized by false information or fake news.
00:34Fake news?
00:36Yes, fake news.
00:38But there's only one thing these people want.
00:41The benefit of the people.
00:42That's why fake news, let's stop that.
00:46There's a reason why fake news is doing what we consider opportunistic.
00:50According to John Donovan, Research Director of Sherwin-Stein Center on Media, Politics, and Public Policy of Harvard University,
00:57it's important to understand the difference between misinformation and disinformation.
01:01Misinformation is the unintentional spreading of false information,
01:06such as slander, praise, and deceit, such as pranks.
01:10While disinformation is the intentional spreading of fake news,
01:15which is usually for political purposes,
01:18such as scams, editing of messages, pictures, or videos that are fake.
01:23According to Stanford University,
01:25the rapid spread of fake news is caused by the rise of social media platforms
01:30where it's easy to spread information without going through thorough fact-checking.
01:35Because of this, there was a big challenge
01:38because spreading fake news can affect people's beliefs and views
01:43even if they know that the information they receive is not true.
01:46In other words, fake news is like a virus.
01:49It spreads and transmits to other people.
01:51And sometimes, it's like a disease that's spreading.
01:55Misinformation is spreading now in the Philippines,
01:58especially on social media.
02:00That's why fake news, let's stop that.
02:03This is the fake code of US President Donald Trump
02:05regarding the issue of arresting former President Rodrigo Duterte.
02:10In the BBC News fake code post,
02:12Trump warned that the Philippines will be exempted from 50% tariff
02:16if Duterte doesn't return to the Philippines.
02:19While the content of the Washington Post's pecking code card is more intense,
02:23Trump is exposing the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marquez Jr.
02:27for his involvement in the arrest of Duterte.
02:30And Dio Manoy, he's already talking to the President of China, Xi Jinping,
02:34to talk about the issue of their true friend.
02:39In one of the interviews of the PTV Research Division,
02:42no such code card was mentioned on the well-known media platform.
02:46That's why fake news, let's stop that.
02:49Moreover, Dio Manoy's pecking code cards
02:52voluntarily became Duterte's lawyer in this case.
02:55Characters in movies, models, or artists are the personalities used here.
03:00The sociologist Brother Clifford Sorita said
03:03that the effects of fake news are not a joke.
03:06It can have many bad effects, like chaos.
03:25I don't think that fake news qualifies for good fun.
