00:00Seventeen overseas Filipino workers detained in Qatar for staging a rally in support of
00:06former President Rodrigo Roa Duterte, who is currently facing charges for crimes against
00:12humanity at the International Criminal Court, or ICC, were granted provisional release,
00:17according to the Department of Migrant Workers, or DMW.
00:21BTV's Denise Osorio has the report.
00:26The Department of Migrant Workers earlier today confirmed the remaining 17 overseas
00:31Filipino workers, or OFWs, imprisoned recently in Qatar for alleged illegal assembly or gathering
00:36without a permit, have been granted provisional liberty.
00:39A total of 20 Filipinos, which includes three minors, was arrested last week in Doha, Qatar
00:44after staging a protest.
00:46According to DMW Secretary Hans Leo Kakdak, an immediate directive came from President
00:50Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. the moment he got wind of the arrest last March 28.
00:54As the three minors were promptly released, legal counsels provided by the Philippine
00:58government worked on the temporary release of 12 male and five female OFWs as investigation
01:03continues.
01:04They're able to all go home to their respective homes in Qatar.
01:08They could not travel outside of Qatar while the investigations are going on.
01:14But what's important here, provisional liberty is still liberty.
01:19Kakdak also emphasized the continuous legal and welfare assistance for the OFWs.
01:23Meanwhile, the DMW reminded Filipinos abroad to always follow the laws and regulations
01:28of their host country, as arrests are not the only possible consequences they may face.
01:53From PTV Manila, Denise Osorio for Balitang Pambansa.
