00:00The Philippine Coast Guard, or PCG, monitored the Chinese research vessel Songkang,
00:06which was heading toward the Indian Ocean for fishing,
00:09and it spotted it through Philippine waters under the Rite of Innocent passage.
00:14The vessel, carrying 25 Chinese crew members, showed no suspicious activities during its journey.
00:21Meanwhile, China issued a warning in response to Armed Forces of the Philippines, or AFP,
00:28General Romeo Browner's comments on a possible Taiwan invasion, with the Philippine government
00:34clarifying that Browner's statement was about preparedness, not heightened alert.
00:40China also objected to the U.S. approval of F-16 fighter jet sales to the Philippines,
00:47which the Philippine government explained as part of their AFP modernization program.
