00:00Genghis Khan died without having achieved what he believed was his destiny, to conquer the entire world.
00:09Hey, hello and welcome to WatchMojo, Spanish. I am G.
00:13And today we show you our top 10 of the unexpected deaths that had enormous consequences for the future of humanity.
00:19We will exclude people who were murdered or died after the events of those who were responsible.
00:25And after his death, that legend became an inspiration to many who dreamed, but ultimately failed to follow where he had led.
00:36Menes
00:37Menes is the oldest member of our list, an Egyptian pharaoh who ruled about 5,000 years ago.
00:43He is credited with being the founder of the first dynasty and the first unifier of Upper and Lower Egypt.
00:49After his death, his model of a unified nation under a single ruler became a model for civilizations around the world.
00:56We do not know for sure how he died, however some legends say that he was caught and killed by a hippopotamus.
01:04Egypt would reach the height of its power under Ramses II, who died in 1213 BC, which triggered the intermediate period that brought with it a massive decline in Egypt.
01:16Mansa Musa
01:17The ninth Mansa of the Empire of Mali was the richest person that ever existed, and has remained so since the 14th century.
01:25He was so rich that he distributed gold to those he knew during his travels, which caused massive inflation and almost destroyed the economy of Cairo.
01:34Some estimate that his pilgrimage to the Middle East caused about 1,500 million dollars in economic losses.
01:41His death was probably due to natural causes, but we can't say for sure.
01:45After his death, his successors lacked his ability, and the Empire of Mali entered a period of decline that would never be recovered.
01:53Carlos I de Borgoña
01:55Carlos I de Borgoña, or El Temerario, was the last duke of Borgoña and lived in the 15th century.
02:01In his last years, he tried to unify the Netherlands, a feat never before achieved in history.
02:08This ambition provoked the Wars of Borgoña, and in the Battle of Nancy, Carlos faced the forces of the Duke of Lorena in the battlefield.
02:16This battle was a disaster and resulted in the death of Carlos.
02:20Without a male heir, Borgoña disintegrated and the land was divided between France and Austria.
02:26If Carlos had survived, then he could have unified the Netherlands a century before they actually did.
02:33King Tutankhamun
02:35Tutankhamun is one of the most famous pharaohs in Egypt, but he had little historical impact during his life.
02:41We often call him the boy king, since he died due to natural causes when he was about 19 years old, after a reign of only 9 years.
03:05He died in 1323 B.C., but his impact did not occur until 1922, when Howard Carter discovered his tomb.
03:13It was the most intact pharaonic tomb ever found, which meant a monumental discovery and completely changed archaeology.
03:21Tutankhamun's treasures captivated the world.
03:26In the months and years following their discovery, they were painstakingly excavated and transferred to the Cairo Museum.
03:33His golden funerary mask is now on display at the Egyptian Museum of Cairo, and is one of the most emblematic artifacts in history.
03:41Enrique II of France
03:43Enrique II not only died in a tragic and unusual way, but his death also had important political repercussions for the balance of European power.
03:52During a fair game in 1559, his opponent's spear broke when it hit the king and a splinter pierced Enrique's eye.
04:02Then it entered his brain, infected him, and killed him 10 days later.
04:07His 15-year-old son took command, but he was not a capable ruler.
04:11Shortly after, in 1562, the French Wars of Religion began, which would not end until 1598.
04:19If it had not been for his final premature death, this tumultuous period could have been completely avoided.
04:25Alejandro Magno
04:27Alejandro created one of the largest empires ever seen in an incredibly short period of time.
04:33He died in 323 B.C. at the age of 32 in Babylon.
04:39He contracted a fever, possibly malaria, and on the 10th of June, 323 B.C., after a night of heavy drinking, Alexander died.
04:49He was a month short of his 33rd birthday.
04:53We do not know exactly what killed him, but without a doubt they were natural causes.
04:58This death initiated a series of events that shaped the world during the following centuries.
05:03Alejandro did little to consolidate his empire and did not come up with a plan for what would happen to him after his death.
05:10His great kingdom ended up divided into separate kingdoms led by their generals,
05:15which resulted in a series of wars and conflicts over the territories.
05:19His conquest had opened the East to a flood of Western and Greek influence,
05:24and the contact between cultures was to have a lasting effect on European and Asian civilization.
05:31If it had not been for his early death, his kingdom could have lasted longer, and perhaps even stopped the rise of Rome.
05:38Marie Curie
05:40Marie Curie was a pioneer in the research on radioactivity.
05:43Her contributions to science were significant, but she finally died in 1934 due to plastic anemia.
05:52It was a disease related to prolonged exposure to radiation, something we did not know in life.
06:00Her death generated an enormous awareness of the dangers associated with exposure to radiation,
06:05and led to an improvement in safety with respect to radioactive materials.
06:10Her death was tragic and was caused by the discovery that made her successful, despite her premature death.
06:17She was the first woman to win a Nobel Prize and the only person to win Nobel Prizes in two scientific fields.
06:23Her legacy will last forever, and she continued to inspire generations to advance in the field of science.
06:30Kublai Khan
06:32Genghis Khan's grandson, Kublai Khan, was perhaps the most successful Mongol emperor.
06:36He died of a disease in 1294, after ruling for 34 years.
06:42In life, he formed the Yuan Dynasty in China, which would last until 1368.
06:47He ruled the Mongol Empire while it was at its peak, but unfortunately his death would be the perdition of the empire.
06:54After his death, a successive crisis began and he was divided into four separate states.
07:00He had already begun to fragment after the death of Mongke Khan in 1259,
07:05but Kublai's death changed everything, marking the end of Mongol rule in Asia.
07:11Genghis Khan
07:13Genghis died in 1227, which was a turning point in history,
07:17as it marked the transition from a unified Mongol Empire to a series of powerful khanates.
07:30But even this was not enough to satisfy the desire of Genghis Khan.
07:34In the winter of 1226, Genghis fell off his horse, which caused a serious illness.
07:40We do not know exactly who killed him, but whatever it was, nobody intended to kill him.
07:47After his death, the succession of the empire would provoke important power struggles in the 13th century.
07:53During his life, he was considered a brutal conqueror.
07:57However, over time his legacy evolved,
08:00and now we believe that the contributions of the Mongols to culture, trade and government were significant.
08:16None of this would have happened if it weren't for Genghis Khan.

08:29Very well, let's see the end.
08:31Vladimir Lenin
08:33Lenin was a revolutionary leader, famous for fighting for democracy in Russia
08:38and then immediately becoming a dictator after losing the first election.
08:43From out of nowhere, Vladimir Lenin had become the leader of the largest nation on Earth
08:48and was now imposing his will.
08:51He created the Soviet Union, a communist state that would exist until 1991.
08:57He died in 1924 due to numerous brainwashing.
09:01His death triggered a power struggle that led to the rise of Joseph Stalin,
09:05one of the most brutal men in history.
09:09Stalin's death was also fascinating and became a black comedy in recent years called The Death of Stalin.
09:24The deaths of these two men changed history,
09:27but Lenin's death would send Russia into decades of agitation and poverty.
09:32Were there other shocking and unfortunately involuntary deaths that we didn't include?
09:37Tell us in the comments.
