00:00Venezuelan government rejects measures by the US administration and extreme right wing.
00:17In Myanmar, death toll rises to more than 1,000 after 7.7 magnitude earthquake hit the
00:24centre of the country on Friday.
00:29A new wave of US-executed airstrikes hit several locations in Yemen on Friday, where at least
00:36one death has been reported from the aggression.
00:43Hello and welcome to From the South. I'm Alejandra Garcia from Telesur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:48We begin with the news.
01:00Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro denounced the unilateral coercive measures imposed by
01:06the Trump administration against the Venezuelan productivist system, condemning that these
01:11actions were requested by the Venezuelan extreme right wing.
01:15During the installation of the National Economic Council, President Maduro made a call to confront
01:20the economic war announcement promoted by the government of the United States and the
01:25Venezuelan extreme right wing. He also stated that Venezuelan migrants are victims of the
01:30sanctions and the economic war that forced them to emigrate.
01:35In this context, the Venezuelan head of state reiterated that in spite of the sanctions
01:40and economic blockade, the Venezuelan people have achieved in the first quarter of the year
01:45an economic growth of 4.5% in the Gross Domestic Product.
01:59In its opportunity, the criminal economic sanctions condemned by the entire Venezuelan
02:04public opinion were carefully requested by a few unspeakable individuals who have pretended
02:10and believed that by causing economic harm, and consequently causing social harm to their country,
02:23our country which belongs to all Venezuelans,
02:27they are going to have a bed of roses to reach political power in Venezuela
02:42and become the saviors in some cases of national history.
02:47Since the history we have lived through has shown that it is a crime against an entire country,
03:02against an entire society to have requested or supported sanctions against the economy
03:08and the healthy functioning of the national productive mechanism.
03:29Venezuelan migrants are doubly victims. In Venezuela,
03:35they were victims of the sanctions and the economic war that forced them to migrate as economic migrants.
03:42And now they are victims of an embarrassment by pretending to qualify them as members of a gang of murderers,
03:48the Tranderagua, criminal group that was defeated in our country.
03:53And pretending to qualify, as the Nazis did with the Jews, all Venezuelan migration as a migration of criminals.
03:59This is not a migration of criminals. I come out in defense of Venezuelan migrants.
04:05It is an economic migration of decent productive working people.
04:16President Maduro also pointed out that there is a market dollar that must be respected
04:22in order to establish the mechanisms to defend it.
04:29We have an old enemy, the war dollar.
04:34We are going to fight against all the mechanisms of robbery and speculation.
04:39There is a market dollar. Some call it the official dollar.
04:44It is a mistake. It is not a dollar because we did not establish it.
04:49It was established by the market. It is a mistake.
04:55Those who love Venezuela respect the market dollar,
05:00which we built in this year of fighting for the new exchange system.
05:05It is a battle over who can do more, the war dollar or the construction of a market dollar
05:10that benefits economic stability, growth, production, trade and the satisfaction of the needs of the country.
05:15Let's think about it.
05:20In El Salvador, Cristo Sal, a 25-year-old human rights organization, has issued a report
05:25deeming the deportation of Venezuelans from the United States to prisons in El Salvador as illegal.
05:31Moreover, they say the refusal by the administration of President Nayib Bukele
05:36to disclose the identity of the said prisoners is a violation of human rights,
05:41according to international law, which tends to force disappearance or kidnapping.
05:47They argue that no person can be arrested in anonymity,
05:52for it is a violation of a basic right like communicating with relatives and lawyers
05:57or receiving visitors while in prison.
06:06We stay in Venezuela, where President Nicolás Maduro received the Arab Muslim community
06:11at the Miraflores Palace to celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan.
06:16The Venezuelan president emphasized during the meeting that the times of Ramadan
06:21have served to pray for the people of Palestine and its independence.
06:26He also stated that both peoples are united in the struggle for freedom and justice.
06:31For his part, the spiritual guide of the Caracas Mosque thanked the president for his firm opposition
06:37and support to the Palestinian cause during all times
06:41where the Zionist regime has criminally attacked the people of Gaza.
06:46The meeting was part of the closing of the holy month of Ramadan,
06:49which represents one of the fundamental pillars of Islam.
06:55And we in Venezuela feel a great satisfaction
07:00that the Muslim community coexists and lives in peace in our country, Venezuela.
07:10You are Venezuelans just like all of us,
07:15and Venezuela will always have the doors open for the Muslim community,
07:20for the Muslim people everywhere to continue living together in holy peace and harmony.
07:28And now we have a short break coming up,
07:30but first remember you can join us on TikTok at Telesur English

07:36We'll be right back, stay with us.
07:50Welcome back to From the South.

09:31ASEAN Coordination Center for Humanitarian Assistance on disaster management.
09:41And I allowed India to send aid to us.
09:44I would like to invite every organization, every people to provide aid.
09:51Meanwhile, the earthquake also hit Thailand,
09:54where residential buildings and offices were evacuated.
09:58Public broadcaster Thai PBS reported the collapse of a 30-story building
10:04under construction in the capital, which housed around 50 people,
10:087 of whom managed to escape while the rest were trapped.
10:12According to the latest information,
10:14at least 10 persons have been found dead at the scene.
10:20Heavy rainfall along the U.S.-Mexico border has caused devastating flooding,
10:30claiming at least three lives in Texas and one in Mexico.
10:34In Hidalgo County, Texas, over 35 centimeters of rain led to widespread flooding
10:40and hundreds of rescues, with Harlingen, according to an unprecedented 54 inches,
10:47Across the Rio Grande, Reynosa, Mexico,
10:50bore the brunt of the storms, with an elderly man drowning in the floods.
10:55The city saw severe inundation, forcing 172 residents into temporary shelters.
11:01Neighboring towns like Rio Bravo and Miguel Alemán also faced significant risks.
11:06As the rain subsided, Friday, emergency teams in both countries
11:10continued rescue and recovery efforts, assessing the extensive damage caused by the deluge.
11:23In other news, in Bolivia, the Ministry of Health launched a campaign
11:26aimed at facilitating the diagnosis of cervical cancer,
11:30the most common type of cancer in the country, using molecular technology.
11:34The aim is to detect the curable disease in time.
11:38Our correspondent in Bolivia, Fredy Morales, tells us the details.
11:45The permanent campaign aimed at early detection of cervical cancer.
11:49The Bolivian government has added molecular technology that allows two diagnoses,
11:53called co-testing, to be performed in a single session.
12:00The sample collection is unique and allows us to perform the diagnosis with both tests
12:04in order not to inconvenience our patients and, especially,
12:07to give them the security of only taking the sample on a single occasion.
12:11With this reality, co-testing is practically accessible to all women.
12:21With the incorporation of new technology,
12:23it is hoped that women will be more confident in coming forward for the tests,
12:27which are recommended to be performed once a year.
12:31We only took the sample for the pap smear by looking at the cytology,
12:35the cellular characteristics that we could see in the tissue that we could see in the uterine cervix,
12:39and, in this case, what we do is to complement it with a molecular biology test.
12:43If we find the papillomavirus, we have the possibility of identifying the genotype,
12:47which is the main cause of cancer.
12:54For the time being, the new technology is applied at the INLEISA Institute,
12:59where samples are also received from all over the country,
13:02which are also taken and processed free of charge.
13:07The health personnel are trained so that they can make a correct sampling
13:11to make the molecular diagnosis,
13:13because nowadays we are talking about molecular biology
13:16for the diagnosis of the human papillomavirus.
13:19And how do we combine this information with the pap smear?
13:23The state campaign against cervical cancer, in addition to free diagnosis,
13:28includes the vaccination of girls and boys from 12 to 15 years of age
13:33for prevention purposes and in the perspective of controlling the papillomavirus.
13:42This campaign is called 90-70-90.
13:45It is related to what really matters to us women.
13:48The measures for us are that, 90-70-90.
13:54It's as simple as that, those are our measures.
13:57It's 90% of girls vaccinated against human papillomavirus between the ages of 10 and 15,
14:0270% of women having a high-yield test at age 35 and again at age 45,
14:07and 90% of women with cervical disease receiving treatment.
14:12Cervical cancer affects more than 13,000 women each year.
14:16The male is the transmitting agent of the disease,
14:19which is why they are included in the vaccination program.
14:22To facilitate the fight against this disease,
14:25the government authorized several years ago that women should have a working day
14:30for the sole purpose of going for the test to detect the disease.

15:59as well as several points in the governorate of Yawuf.
16:03The United States has intensified aggressions against the Arab country in recent weeks
16:07on the direct order of President Donald Trump
16:10in explicit support of Washington to the Israeli criminal entity.
16:19Patients in a Gaza hospital were evacuated on Thursday
16:24to the United Arab Emirates for specialized medical care.
16:28The World Health Organization, who in collaboration with the UAE,
16:33successfully evacuated 81 patients and 107 companions in the latest humanitarian mission.

16:45including over 4,500 children, remain in urgent need of medical evacuation.
16:51The reopening of the Rafah crossing during the ceasefire
16:54marked a critical development for medical evacuations,
16:58allowing over 3,500 people, including 2,000 patients,
17:02to leave Gaza for essential treatment abroad.
17:05However, with Israel's resumption of military operations in March 2025,
17:10the closure of the Rafah crossing has become a renewed concern.
17:15Bashir is the only survivor of the family after the bombing of their house.
17:21She became a quadriplegic.
17:25After that, she stayed at the hospital for 47 days and then was released.
17:31Now she's suffering from paralysis and can't walk.
17:38She also suffers memory loss and also has a hole in her throat that she breathes from.
17:45Thank God it's an incredible feeling that we were able to have the referral for her,
17:51so she can walk again if not fully walk I'm totally fine with 90%,
17:56but at least she can walk again so she can depend on herself and catch up with her studies,
18:03chase her life dreams and become the dentist she always wanted to be.
18:09Hopefully God will help us make her happy and make her able to continue her life path.

18:29The organization denounced the illegal seizure of properties by Israel
18:33in addition to the issuance of military orders for buffer zones around the settlements
18:39while establishing 60 new security checkpoints.
18:43The agency detailed that through these buffer zones,
18:46the Tel Aviv regime is attempting to prevent residents from accessing their homes.
18:50In an attempt to evict them from their land,
18:54thousands of Palestinians are forced to evacuate the area to protect their lives.
