00:00The government will build an additional jail facility in the town of Consolation in Cebu.

00:05This is still part of the issue of harassment in prisons.

00:08The center of the news from Jesse Atienza of PTV Cebu.

00:16Here in the mountainous part of the town of Consolation,

00:19the new Consolation Municipal Jail will be built.

00:22The LGU held a capsuleying and groundbreaking ceremony

00:26led by Mayor Teresa Aligado and officials of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology.

00:33The local government donated more than one hectare of vacant land

00:38in Barangay Panas in BJMP.

00:41It is expected that the congestion in the town's current jail facility

00:46will be reduced to three hundred persons deprived of liberty or PDLs.

00:50It's a very overcrowded jail.

00:54In fact, the incidence of the disease is high,

00:58even in terms of the density.

01:02So, right now, the palliatives are constantly checked up,

01:07and then they take turns going out, doing exercises,

01:11sunbathing, and other things.

01:16So, I'm worried because I don't want them to get sick.

01:20You know, it's just people.

01:23BJMP was pleased with the construction of the new facility

01:27after five years of processing documents.

01:31But with the help of the administration of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

01:35and the Department of Interior and Local Government,

01:38the project will now begin.

01:41In the construction of this new facility,

01:44we're not only building physical walls,

01:47but also strengthening the foundation of our justice system.

01:52The Association Municipal Jail will serve as a vital institution

01:57in ensuring the safety and rehabilitation of individuals

02:02who have transgressed the law.

02:05It is a place where accountability meets compassion,

02:10where discipline meets redemption,

02:13and where the principles of justice are upheld with unwavering commitment.

02:19The new Municipal Jail will have an administrative building,

02:23accommodation building, and kitchen area.

02:26The target is to open and use it within a year.
