00:00Despite China's continued presence and harassment, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, or BFAR,
00:06together with the Philippine Coast Guard, or PCG, reported that its resupply mission to Panatagsyol in the West Philippine Sea was successful.
00:15Our PTV correspondent, Christian Bascones, has the report.
00:20As the sun rose, Filipino fishermen welcomed Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, or BFAR, vessels in Panatagsyol, also known as Scar Borosyol.
00:34As part of their resupply mission and joint maritime patrol of the Philippine Coast Guard, or PCG, and BFAR, fishermen were provided with fuel for their operations.
00:44The main goal of our deployment of the Philippine Coast Guard and four Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources
00:51is in accordance with President Marcos' order to ensure the safety of our fishermen.
01:00While at the same time, we encourage them to fish in Bajo de Masinlo, or in general, in the West Philippine Sea.
01:09At the same time, we provide fuel subsidy for them to be more motivated in doing fishing activities in this area.
01:17Each BFAR vessel distributed 60,000 liters of fuel along with groceries, sacks of rice, and medicines worth over 80,000 pesos to the fishermen.
01:26While the resupply mission was underway, seven China Coast Guard, or CCG, ships surrounded the Philippine vessels, two from the PCG and four from the BFAR.
01:55The CCG deployed a rigid inflatable boat, or RHIB, to harass the fishing boats approaching the Philippine ships.
02:01The CCG attempted to block the resupply mission, but they failed to do so.
02:06If the BFAR ships do not reach the Philippine ships, we will surround the Philippine ships.
02:18The Philippine Coast Guard and BFAR ships are waiting for us.
02:31The BFAR ships and the Coast Guard ships will not be able to reach the Philippine ships.
02:41According to the PCG, the fishermen can be considered heroes for continuing to fight
02:47under Philippine control.
02:48That is our worry. If there are no Philippine fishermen going to the West Philippine Sea or even in Bajo de Masinlo,
02:59we have already given up in asserting our rights in the West Philippine Sea.
03:05This is the reason why the government is exerting so much effort to provide security to our fishermen,
03:14to provide fuel subsidy so that they can support their fishing here.
03:19It's because we want the Filipino fishermen to still be able to fish here.
03:24And in the future, we're not going to be discouraged to say that the West Philippine Sea is for the Filipinos.
03:33The fishermen admit that they are afraid to fish, but they have no choice, as it is their livelihood.
03:39We are afraid because sometimes, when we get close to the fish, we are surrounded by them.
03:44We are being chased by them.
03:47So, if it's only up to their destination, that's it.
03:51In the past, it was only 20 miles. Now, it's only 30 miles.
03:56Jonathan shared his experience with the harassment activities of China.
04:00They always harass us when we pass by.
04:02Because our fishermen are in the west of Calvuro.
04:07We are in the west of Panatagsio.
04:09When we pass by, they harass us.
04:11There is no road where we are not being harassed.
04:14They take us to 30 to 40 nautical miles.
04:20So, our crude oil is running out.
04:24We can save, but we can't save.
04:27The fishermen expressed their gratitude to the government for boosting their morale
04:30and continue to fish in waters that rightfully belong to the Philippines.
04:34They don't let us go because they are here.
04:37The Coast Guard and the Bepara.
04:40So, it's a big help for us that they are here.
04:43As the joint maritime patrol continued the next day,
04:46the China Coast Guard persisted in harassing the Philippine vessels, moving even closer.
04:51No matter how much force China uses,
04:53the Filipinos remain resilient in defending the country's territory.
