00:00It seems the U.S.-Russia negotiations ended without a major breakthrough, but there have
00:07been some mini-breakthroughs. Are we getting closer, do you think, to a broader ceasefire
00:11agreement?
00:12Well, unfortunately, I wish that were the case. I don't think that's what we're seeing.
00:20What we are seeing is a regeneration of talks that occurred roughly a year ago, where Ukraine
00:28was in talks through various intermediaries with Russia on elements of a Black Sea ceasefire.
00:39In fact, previously, there was a sort of a tacit agreement between Ukraine and Russia
00:44not to strike each other's critical energy infrastructure. And so that is now factoring
00:49as an issue in the conversation that's being mediated by the United States. And then, of
00:55course, Ukraine and Russia have long had various channels through which they have
01:03exchanged prisoners, and so that continues as well.
01:06So in those three areas of humanitarian exchanges, maritime ceasefire and energy infrastructure
01:13ceasefire, or at least a moratorium on strikes of some sort, those are conversations that
01:18have been ongoing for more than a year, for several years, and are being regenerated.
