00:00As an actor, your job is to kind of be invisible, in a way.
00:05You're supposed to watch and be a spy,
00:07and live life and have experience,
00:10and make mistakes,
00:12and when suddenly that attention's on you,
00:14it makes you self-conscious.

00:40I think making a living as an actor
00:43is a miracle in and of itself,
00:45but to get to do the things
00:48that I've got a chance to do
00:53on top of it is pretty kind of beyond,
00:55but I would have been totally happy
00:58you know, making a living as an actor.

01:32If you know someone
01:35where you're in the room together
01:37and it's second nature,
01:38and suddenly that's not there anymore,
01:40it can be a violent thing,
01:41where suddenly you, internally I mean,
01:43not physically violent,
01:44where you lose love
01:46and you don't know how to articulate it.

02:58I think in the military I learned
03:01a lot about working as a unit.
03:03It's like a team, it's a team sport,
03:06making a film.
03:08It doesn't really rest on one person.
03:10And making sure that you're doing your job
03:13in support of everybody else's job
03:15is how they're very similar.
03:17So I think I took that from it.

04:06You try to make everything
04:08as personal as possible,
04:09and you know, do those things
04:10of trying to tell the truth
04:11and say it and mean it,
04:12and hopefully if you're surrounded
04:14by people who are supportive
04:16and are there,
04:17then you know,
04:18hopefully something will happen.

05:18I just think that he is, you know,
05:20one of the greatest directors that is alive
05:23and we'll work with him on anything
05:26to a Colgate commercial.

05:52I like this phrase
05:53that you often quote,
05:55making a movie is like
05:56having to take a piss.
05:57It's so urgent, I love that.
05:59So what do you mean by that exactly?
06:01That it has to come from a place of need
06:04and be urgent.
