No fact checking. Extremists welcome.

This is Parler, a rising social media platform among Donald Trump supporters…
Transcript
00:00I'm on Parler and Gab both.
00:02Both good platforms.
00:04Get off Facebook, get off Twitter.
00:06I made the switch this week and I made it because
00:08I was tired of being censored.
00:10Facebook is worthless,
00:12Twitter is worthless.
00:30They keep kicking me off for posting the truth.
00:38Told me it was all lies when I know it's the truth.
00:40You post one thing that is a fact
00:42about Biden and in fact
00:44check that says it's not true.
00:46I don't want them to shut the other side down for me.
00:48I just don't want them to shut me down.
00:50A free,
00:52fair, open marketplace of opinions.
00:54That's what we're supposed to have in this country.
01:00Obviously there's something going on
01:06in the social media space that's leading to
01:08a lot of hate and violence.
01:10Our solution and our solution
01:12to the problem is just to give more power to the people.
01:14Big tech has shown the ability to shadow ban
01:30or to silence whatever you say,
01:32whatever you post
01:34without anyone ever knowing about it.
01:36That's why I'm proud to join Parler.
01:40This platform gets what free speech is all about.
01:42And I'm excited to be a part of it.
02:04Over time, Facebook and Twitter have learned
02:08that if they just let absolutely anything fly,
02:10a lot of potentially dangerous content,
02:12whether that be hate group content
02:14or content that is factually inaccurate
02:18and may be damaging to democracies,
02:20tends to spread on a site.
02:22And if sites do nothing to police that,
02:24that can create its own ecosystem
02:26and cause lots of problems.
02:40The reality is we have seen an extraordinary rise
02:50of white supremacists, QAnon conspiratorialists,
02:54anti-vaxxers, neo-Nazis and other types
02:58using Parler as an outlet
03:00because they're not finding a home
03:02on places like Facebook or Twitter anymore.
03:04What Parler has to ask itself
03:06is whether it wants to be
03:08truly a public square
03:10like its founder has talked about
03:12or whether it wants to be a fraternity party
03:14where the loudest,
03:16you know, most sensationalist voices
03:20are able to dominate.
03:34If in fact what's happening is it's influencers
03:36and they're going to bring stuff
03:38from this site to the mainstream,
03:40then to the extent that there's content
03:42on the site that is inaccurate,
03:44hateful or the like,
03:46they could be re-injecting that
03:48into society in various ways.
03:50If the group of people moving there
03:52is more idiosyncratic,
03:54the concern is actually that what happens
03:56is that they find themselves
03:58in a bit of a bubble
04:00and they start reinforcing and echoing.
04:02And if there are enough of them
04:04to actually make, you know,
04:06to have some impact,
04:08they're just in a completely different media space
04:10and interacting even less with the rest of us.
