00:04top court. The control yuan, one of Taiwan's five government branches, says a 96 percent cut to
00:11operational expenses left it with just over 300,000 U.S. dollars for the year. It says this
00:17has affected its ability to carry out its duties. The cut was passed by the main opposition,
00:22Kuomintang and Taiwan People's Party, which together hold a majority in the legislature.
00:27They accuse the control yuan of caving to pressure by the ruling Democratic Progressive
00:31Party. The constitutional court will now review whether the funding
00:34cuts still allow the branch to operate effectively.
