00:00No.
00:00Hey, Dread Central.
00:01I'm Catherine Corcoran.
00:02And I can't just give you four of my favorite horror movies,
00:05so I'm going to give you eight that are in my recent rotation
00:08and pretty frequently in my favorite rotations.
00:11The Birds, that was the first horror movie I ever saw.
00:141963, Alfred Hitchcock.
00:16Unbelievable, still super poignant,
00:19tackling environmental terror.
00:20Before we were even doing that.
00:24Terry, 1976, by Brian De Palma.
00:28Such a feminist piece, solidified
00:34a lot of feminist narratives.
00:36Her prom night massacre, I feel like,
00:38isn't just this moment of vengeance,
00:40but it's this violent reckoning against people
00:44who are trying to punish women.
00:46Such an incredible, incredible film.
00:49The original, Buffy the Vampire Slayer,
00:51by Fran Rubel Cuswe.
00:54I am a Buffy girl.
00:55I always have been.
00:56It was my gateway horror.
00:58The TV show and the original, but the original film,
01:00there would be no TV show without,
01:02so we have to give it to that one.
01:03Alien, obviously.
01:051978, Ridley Scott.
01:07That franchise is my favorite franchise of all time.
01:11Ripley, that character, enough said.
01:14Joel Schumacher's The Lost Boys, that
01:16was the one I would watch with my dad, who
01:18got me into horror movies.
01:19So that's the one.
01:20Also, that soundtrack, unreal.
01:24Toby Hooper's The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, the original.
01:28I think, I always say that I've never
01:31been a giant slasher person, but I
01:33think that film, in general, is just so politically poignant
01:39and such an amazing reflection, especially right now,
01:42about politics, about relevance, about machinery,
01:49about environmental impact and animal rights.
01:53It's so good.
01:56Titane, that one, The Pomme d'Or by Julia Ducarneau,
02:01it is a freaking masterpiece about gender.
02:04And talk about female directors, she is unbelievable.
02:08She has another film, Raw, about cannibalism.
02:10That's killer.
02:12And then this past year, I think my favorites
02:16were The Substance and then Immaculate by Mike Mohan.
02:20So that might have been nine, but I could keep going.
02:22But there's a few to jump you off with.
