Families of drug war victims demand justice as they watch Duterte's ICC trial
Families of victims of former president Rodrigo Duterte's 'war on drugs' in Manila on March 14, 2025 watch a live broadcast of the firebrand leader's pre-trial at the International Criminal Court in The Hague and demand justice for their loved ones who were killed during the anti-drug campaign under Duterte's administration. Duterte, who led the Philippines from 2016 to 2022, is set to be the first Asian former head of state to go on trial at the ICC, a court of last resort created more than two decades ago to prosecute individuals for war crimes, crimes against humanity, aggression and genocide.

00:00for around 2011 and 2016.
00:04B, murder.
00:11Thank you, Madam Court Reminder.
00:13You have just heard the reading of the charges, which
00:16are in accordance with the prospect before this court.
00:21I will summarize the question we have repeated.
00:27I don't think we heard it.
00:30The evidence will be collected or presented.
00:34And the issues of Mr. Duterte, of the crimes of which he
00:39was accused.
00:41During those times, I didn't expect that to happen to him.
00:45How can that happen, that he's married?
00:48That he's pregnant?
00:52It hurts.
00:54Until now, I haven't been able to accept that he's gone.
00:59The private jets do not drop out of the coordinated
01:03in advance.
01:05The UAE is not a stable.
01:08The first time that Duterte flashed on the screen,
01:11I got really emotional.
01:13I can't totally say that I am happy,
01:15because how can I be happy knowing
01:18that the reason why I'm here in the first place
01:22and why Duterte is there in the ICC.
01:25But it also reminded me that this
01:28is the result of all the calls for justice that we did.
01:42The victims are still there.
01:45No one can steal the rights and lives of those who ruled.
01:50Juan De Los Santos!
01:51Justice!
01:52Joshua Laksamana!
01:54Justice!
01:55Ken Arnaiz!
01:56Justice!
01:57Antonio Guzman!
01:59Justice!
02:00In the name of the Lord, the Lord is with you.
02:04What we want to see from the ICC is that Duterte,
02:08Rodrigo Duterte, to pay off for his crimes against humanity,
02:12crimes against the Filipino people,
02:15for the 30,000 and more victims of extrajudicial killings,
02:20killed under his watch, killed under his command.
02:24Until now, there is no justice.
