00:00With Love, Meghan is supposed to be all about food and hosting tips, but all viewers can
00:05seem to focus on is Meghan's wardrobe. First off, what exactly is her style all about?
00:11In Episode 2, Meghan herself describes it to Mindy Kaling as high-low, which is the
00:15fashion concept of mixing luxury pieces with more affordable styles. Then she gives the
00:20Office star a full rundown of her outfit.
00:24Zara.
00:25What?
00:26Laura Piana.
00:27Nice.
00:28Jenny Kane.
00:32Another instance of her high-low aesthetic can be found in the last episode of the series.
00:36While feeding her chickens, we see Meghan wearing a casual taupe-colored crew neck with
00:40blue jeans, $40 Dillon clogs from Crocs, and a gold Cartier watch. It's not just any old,
00:46super-expensive gold Cartier watch, either. It's said that Princess Diana herself owned
00:51the blingy timepiece before it landed on the Duchess' wrist. The model retails for
00:55around $22,000 these days, but you have to wonder how much Meghan's inherited piece would
00:59go for if it was put up for auction.
01:02While some viewers see her wardrobe as a chic representation of Meghan's royal title, others
01:06find her outfit choices to be pretty unrealistic for a cooking show, especially when she ditches
01:11the high-low thing and just goes full-on fancy. A good example of this can be found in the
01:15inaugural episode, where we see Meghan wearing a stunning $500 blouse from Zimmerman with
01:20a matching pair of shorts, also priced around $500, while chopping veggies.
01:25In an Instagram post breaking down the look, users were baffled by the cost of the $1,000
01:30mint-colored matching set. One person said,
01:32"'Yes, I'm so relatable and down-to-earth, but I'll wear $2,000 worth of clothes to cook
01:37in.'"
01:38Another person joked,
01:39"'Wow, another baggy shirt and cooking in white satin, so practical.'"
01:43Anyone who actually cooks would agree, it really doesn't make too much sense to wear
01:47fancy clothes while you're getting dirty in the kitchen — unless they're not your
01:50clothes to begin with, or you're so rich that you don't care if you ruin them.
01:54One user suggested as much by saying that her entire look seems staged, just like the
01:58house they shoot the show in. In case you weren't aware, they shoot the show at a rental
02:02property that isn't far from their actual abode in Montecito. This is a whole other
02:06thing that people have been dunking on her for, but we'll save that for another video.
02:10The point is that it all just makes her look disconnected from reality and tone deaf.
02:15It was so much fast food. And yes, I get when you're on a budget, it's super affordable,
02:20but it costs you so much in the long run."
02:23Another outfit that many found to be a bit too fancy for the context of the show can
02:26be found in the last episode. While hosting a brunch with close friends, we see her wearing
02:31a blue silk Ula Johnson Frisia gown that currently retails for $950. The fit was also visible
02:37in the trailer that Meghan posted to Instagram before the show officially dropped, which
02:41is where a lot of the criticism of the gown first surfaced. One user wrote,
02:45"'It's a cooking show, not a fashion show.'"
02:48She doesn't always do the high-low thing, though. In Episode 7, Meghan shows off her
02:51collegiate side by sporting a crew neck emblazoned with Northwestern, her alma mater. While harvesting
02:57vegetables from her garden, Meghan goes shoeless, accompanied by a pair of blue jeans and a
03:01college chic sweatshirt. While it doesn't look vintage, the newer Northwestern apparel
03:05is still a big step down in price compared to the rest of her wardrobe featured in the
03:09series.
03:10It'll be interesting to see if Meghan takes any of these criticisms of her wardrobe and
03:13overall aesthetic to heart when the second season of the show eventually drops. According
03:18to People, it's set to release sometime this coming fall, so we'll find out then.
