A recent post has set social media "ablaze" with discussion over traders selling fireworks at the Ayer Baloi Ramadan Bazaar in Pontian, Johor.

These traders claim that they were issued permits to sell their wares which has led to some frustration among food stall vendors.

In response the Pontian Municipal Council has clarified that they never issued permits or licenses for fireworks sales at any Ramadan bazaar under their jurisdiction.

00:35Of 56 applications for fireworks sales, the council supported only 27.
00:41In a statement on Monday, the council said the application to sell fireworks at the Ayer
00:46Baloi Bazaar was among the 29 not supported by the council due to unsuitable location.
00:53This clarification came after a food vendor expressed frustration on social media upon
00:59discovering fireworks being sold at the bazaar, arguing that the space should be reserved
01:04exclusively for food stalls serving breaking fast meals.
