00:00The Department of Agriculture, or DA, announced the release of the basis for the maximum suggested retail price, or MSRP, on pork earlier today.
00:08While the MSRP on pork is currently being implemented in Metro Manila,
00:12the agency is mulling the possibility of expanding the implementation of the said policy nationwide.
00:18Mary Vel Custodio tells us more.
00:22Vegetable sells faster in Mayras Carindiria, since vegetable costs cheaper than meat.
00:27Even if they want it, they won't buy it because it's expensive.
00:33She expressed her gladness when pork prices dropped after the implementation of a maximum suggested retail price scheme in Metro Manila starting today.
00:41If it goes down, maybe the price will go down.
00:47The Department of Agriculture released the basis for the pork MSRP.
00:51Pork shoulder or kasim should cost at maximum P350 per kilo
00:55while pork belly or liempo is P380 per kilo, effective today.
01:00Pork retailers at Mega Qmart saw a P10 to P20 pork price drop in Farmgate.
01:05The price of pork belly and pork shoulder went up.
01:10Now, it went down by P10.
01:13What we got from them was a whole pig's head.
01:17Our pig's head is P305.
01:19It went down by P305 today.
01:22Before, it was P320 or P325.
01:25Although the pig's head price has also dropped, a maximum P300 per kilo will also be implemented for pig's head or the price from trader to retailer.
01:33The Agriculture Department will conduct a periodic review a month after the pork MSRP implementation.
01:39The DA will work hand-in-hand with the DTI and PNP on market inspection to ensure compliance with the proper pork prices.
01:46Although pork MSRP is currently implemented in Metro Manila,
01:50the DA is already looking at the cost structure in other regions to establish pork MSRPs there as well.
01:56Meanwhile, the Agricultural Group SINAG proposes to include vegetables, particularly onions, in the MSRP
02:02as the Farmgate price trend of onion has been low over the past two weeks.
02:06We can say that right now, the Farmgate price has dropped.
02:11The white is at P25 to P30 per kilo.
02:14The red is between P60 to P70.
02:18If this is the trend, we're suggesting to include MSRP so that consumers can benefit from the cheap Farmgate.
02:27If the white is at P30, then the MSRP should be P8, P7 or P8.
02:33The red should not exceed P100.
02:36SINAG is already coordinating with the DA on this matter.
02:40Vel Custodio, for the National TV Network, for a new and better Philippines.
