Transcript
00:00Good morning, my name is Phil Hewitt, Group Arts Editor at Sussex Newspapers. Lovely to
00:06speak to Faris of the Horrors. Now, it's a really exciting time for the band. You've
00:10got a new album coming out, Nightlife, which comes out on March 21st. You're doing an in-store
00:16in Brighton the next day, March 22nd. But the point is, this is a new configuration
00:21of the band and a new direction. Things have changed. It's the first album with a new line-up,
00:26isn't it?
00:27Yeah, yeah, it is. And it's a record we're all really proud of. So, yeah, I'm excited
00:33for people to hear it.
00:34And people are going to feel that it's different, aren't they? Is it going to actually feel
00:38and sound different?
00:39I would say so, yeah. I think that partly because of the change in dynamic and that
00:47working method, I think that quite a few things about the songs have changed. I think some
00:52of the textures and the structures have changed. It's still kind of like driven by mine and
01:03Reece's taste, which is basically what we spend, we just spend the whole time trying
01:08to follow that, really. So, you know, there's always going to be continuity. But yeah, I
01:13would say that it's gone into maybe a different world of electronics while keeping a sense
01:20of like a sort of DIY spirit, which is still pretty central to the band, I think.
01:27And it's saying this will energise the band, won't it? You lost, quite naturally, a couple
01:32of people during the pandemic. Just lives changed, etc. You've gained Jordan and Amelia.
01:38And you're saying that it's like half a new band while staying true to the spirit. That's
01:43the best of both worlds, isn't it?
01:45Well, to me it is.
01:46You are painting as we speak. That's what you're doing.
01:49I am, yeah. It's something that I often like to do while I'm talking to people, because
01:55it helps me concentrate. And it also is kind of, I did a whole exhibition that was sort
02:00of based on parallel dialogues. Yeah, that's a whole other, probably a whole other thing.
02:08Just explaining why you came up with that. But the point is, you're saying half a new
02:12band, but the spirit of the old one.
02:15Yeah, I mean, I think what made it easier to incorporate new members is the fact that
02:20both Amelia and Jordan have been friends of ours for a while. And they've played on, like
02:25I produced Amelia's solo record, which hasn't come out yet, but is brilliant. And Jordan
02:32actually played on that as well. But he's played on so many different sessions that
02:36the recent I've been involved in. He used to play in a band called Telegram, who played
02:42with us quite a few times. So, you know, it was just, we added a couple of friends
02:47to the group, and they both happen to be really talented. So it's, you know, it's a good,
02:51it's a good feeling.
02:52Fantastic. So the result of that is Nightlife out on March the 21st, and then you're doing
02:58an in store in Brighton on March the 22nd. Farris, lovely to speak to you. Thank you.
