00:00Senator Kenneth Tito Soto and Panfilo Laxon gave their reactions to the impeachment case against Vice President Sara Duterte.

00:12Former Senate President Tito Soto III believes that the Senate can continue as an impeachment court even if it is breached.

00:19This is the next impeachment against Vice President Sara Duterte of the House of Representatives.

00:24Once you are a judiciary body, you follow the rules of the impeachment, of the impeachment court.

00:30And therefore, you must continue with the trial or the impeachment until it's a culmination.

00:39For Soto, it is time for the Senate to accept the Articles of Impeachment.

00:43It was referred to the plenary and later to the Committee on Rules.

00:47So that even if the Senate is breached, it can be discussed.

00:50According to former Senator Ping Laxon, there are constitutional issues that should be discussed by the Supreme Court.

00:55The first is whether it is possible to pass from the current 19th Congress.

00:59The impeachment court in the next 20th Congress.

01:02The second is the constitutional provision that shall proceed forthwith regarding the impeachment process.

01:08As an impeachment court, the Senate does not act as a legislative body.

01:14Actually, the impeachment trial is not a legislative action.

01:20It is a different constitutional body.

01:23The complexion and personality of the Senate is different.

01:28Laxon admitted that he will not be able to finish the impeachment trial before the Senate adjournment.

01:33He may also consider the election period as a legitimate reason for the delay.

01:38Laxon believes that the impeachment court is a continuing body,

01:41that even if a member is replaced, it will still continue,

01:44just like the handling of the case of Sandigan Bayan.

01:47Both Senator Judson Soto and Laxon were impeached in the impeachment trial of former Supreme Court Chief Justice Renato Corona.

01:54Soto has four terms in the Senate while Laxon has three terms already.

01:58They are both part of the senatorial slate of the current administration,

02:02the alliance for the new Philippines in the 2025 midterm elections.
