The shadow chancellor of the exchequer has defended the previous government for the rise in inflation, instead blaming Chancellor Rachel Reeves' budget and other government decisions, including increased spending and borrowing. 00:15because of choices this government has made. It's gone out and spent a lot of money, borrowed
00:18a lot of money, that's been inflationary. It has also neglected productivity when it
00:24cut those public sector wage deals, there were no productivity requirements attached
00:28to that. And of course the National Insurance increases for employers will in part at least
00:33be passed on, and is being passed on, by way of higher prices. So those are decisions that
00:39this government took, and they were the wrong decisions.
