Rishi Sunak says inflation falling to 2% "shows the plan we've put in place is working". Speaking on a visit to Sizewell B nuclear power station, the prime minister claims "all of the illegal migrants we've detained will be let out onto our streets" under a Labour government and that there would be "no deterrent" for small boat crossings. 00:00This is a very positive step, shows that the plan we put in place is working.
00:04Inflation back to target, it was 11% when I became Prime Minister.
00:08I said it was a priority to bring it down so that people can start now to feel and ease
00:13in the cost pressures that they've seen and it's because that plan has worked
00:16that we've been able to start cutting people's taxes and this election is about the future.
00:20We want to build on this economic foundation that we now have
00:22and I want to keep cutting people's taxes at every stage in their life
00:26and in contrast, Labour would reverse the progress that we've made
00:29and just whack taxes up for everyone and I don't want to see that happen.
00:32I know people are only just starting to feel the benefits now
00:35of inflation having eased and back to target today
00:37and that's why it's important that we continue to cut people's taxes.
00:41I want people to have financial security, I want their hard work to be rewarded
00:45so they can keep more of their own money, spend it on the things that they want to
00:48and that's what they'll get with a future Conservative government.
00:50Tax cuts at every stage of their life.
00:53Tax cuts for people in work as we halve national insurance.
00:55Tax cuts for small business owners, entrepreneurs as we abolish self-employed nicks.
01:00Tax cuts for a young couple trying to buy their first home as we abolish stamp duty
01:03for first-time buyers and of course the triple lock plus to give pensioners a tax cut
01:08and protect their pension.
01:09Every single one of those is opposed by the Labour Party and worse than that,
01:13we just saw yesterday, they yet again couldn't rule out revaluing everyone's council tax bans,
01:18whacking up council tax, attacking farmers, you name it, they are going to tax it
01:23and that is the choice at this election.
01:25Well, in the last 12 months the numbers of people crossing the Channel
01:29is actually down by almost a third.
01:31That hasn't happened before and it shows that we can make a difference,
01:33that's what I've been focused on doing.
01:35There's always going to be days which are worse than others
01:37but the choice of this election is about how do we solve this problem for good.
01:41I've got a plan to do that and that's about getting an incentive up and running
01:45or deterrent up and running, removing the incentive for people to come here.
01:49It's as simple as that.
01:50If people come here illegally, they shouldn't be able to stay,
01:52we need to remove them somewhere else
01:54and if we can get that up and running, then people will stop coming.
01:57And multiple other European countries agree with us,
01:59that's a choice for people at this election.
02:01If you want that deterrent, then you need the flights to go to Rwanda,
02:04that's what I'll deliver.
02:05In contrast, Keir Starmer is going to let everyone out of the detention centres,
02:09offer an amnesty, make us a soft touch of Europe when it comes to migration
02:13and I don't think that's right.
