00:13After the dengue outbreak was declared, the local government of Quezon City, Kamakailana,

00:19due to the increasing number of cases of people infected by the deadly disease,

00:24Rosa's cleaning around her house in Barangay Matandang Balara is in full swing.

00:30Her house is even closer to the creek, which is possible to be invaded by mosquitoes.

00:35We need to clean the inside of the house and outside.

00:38We need to remove the wheels, throw away the heavy things.

00:46We also need to clean the bottles.

00:48And as a precaution to her children, especially to her four-year-old son.

00:54We put a lotion for the mosquito to avoid dengue.

01:01We also need to wear pajamas.

01:03Sometimes, I let them smoke inside the house to get rid of the mosquitoes.

01:09Once again, the leadership of Barangay Matandang Balara in Quezon City is considering

01:13the elimination of mosquitoes in the river and in the vacant lots.

01:17It can be remembered that in 2018 and 2019, the barangay spread mosquitoes

01:22after two people got sick and died.

01:25There were more than 200 cases of dengue in the area.

01:28But the Department of Environment and Natural Resources and the Department of Health

01:34are still considering the elimination of mosquitoes as a solution to the dengue outbreak.

01:38According to the DNR, there is still no sufficient study to prove that this is an effective solution.

01:45In our opinion, because of what we did, we saw that the number of cases of dengue decreased.

01:56Although we still believe that mosquitoes are still a big help,

02:01especially in the vacant lots where the barangay cannot enter to clean.

02:09There are 45 cases of dengue in the area.

02:12But despite this, the barangay is ready to follow the orders of the Department of Health.

02:18And they will just focus on cleaning and information dissemination against dengue.

02:25We will also follow the 5S strategy of the Department of Health.

02:32The elimination of mosquitoes is our last option if we cannot find a cure.

02:41Aside from cleaning the area,

02:44an alternative method was launched by a barangay in Mandaluyong City

02:48as a solution to increase the number of cases of dengue.

02:51This is the one that has money in the mosque.

02:53Anyone can bring any amount of money,

02:57whether they are alive or dead, in exchange for the money.

02:59According to the Department of Health,

03:01aside from QC,

03:03there are still 8 places in the country where dengue outbreak is expected to be announced

03:08because of the continuous increase in the number of cases.

03:10According to the DOH,

03:11there are more than 20,000 cases of dengue

03:14that were reported in the Philippines since February.

03:18This is more than 40% higher than the previous year.

03:24Although there is an increase in the number of cases,

03:26the fatality rate remains at 0.35%.

03:30The declaration of an outbreak does not measure the number of cases.

03:34This means that the number of cases has increased

03:37more than what is expected in one part of the year.

03:43The DOH also reminds people not to hesitate

03:46if they feel any symptoms of dengue

03:49and to immediately consult a doctor.

03:51Meanwhile, the Department of Health has ordered

03:55the local governments to declare a dengue outbreak.
