Prime Minister Keir Starmer says he wants the UK and Europe "to step up" in the response to the war in Ukraine, ahead of a meeting of European leaders in Paris to address Washington's shock policy shift on the war. Starmer's comments come after he wrote in a British daily newspaper that he was ready to send troops to Ukraine if it was needed to ensure the security of Britain and Europe.

00:00This isn't just about the front line in Ukraine, it's the front line of Europe and of the United
00:05Kingdom, it's about our national security and I think that we need to do more, we need to step up
00:12in terms of our collective response in Europe and by that I mean capability, by that I mean
00:18playing our full part when it comes to the defence of the sovereignty of Ukraine if there's a peace
00:24agreement and of course when it comes to funding and training. So on all those fronts I want the
00:30UK and all European allies to step up and for the UK to play a leading part in that.
