00:00AFD not okay, and every person counts, were among the slogans splashed across placards
00:06at this demonstration in Berlin.
00:08Days ahead of Germany's general election, tens of thousands took to the streets to denounce
00:13mounting support for the far-right anti-immigration AfD party.
00:19The AfD has seen a rise in its poll ratings in recent months, prompting alarm among those
00:23who came out to protest.
00:26I find it absolutely worrying that racism and right-wing communication are becoming
00:30the norm.
00:31It goes completely against my feelings, against my humanity, against the empathy that we should
00:35have.
00:36Every person counts, and no one is illegal.
00:40The conservative CDU-CSU alliance of former chancellor Angela Merkel is anticipated to
00:45be the largest party after the vote, with the AfD expected to come second.
00:50A troubling prospect for those in the crowd.
00:56I just think that the AfD and CDU are a huge problem right now.
01:01And I just think that it's right to take to the streets right now, because history must
01:05not be allowed to repeat itself.
01:09A series of deadly attacks blamed on asylum seekers has fuelled the migration debate in
01:14Germany and boosted support for the AfD.
01:17As well as immigration, some supporters of the party have voiced concerns about the country's
01:21economy.
01:22I voted for the AfD since the beginning.
01:27I was convinced that European politics was being run and managed differently.
01:32But in the meantime, things have changed over the years.
01:35And now we have big problems with the economy in Germany, and especially now with the current
01:40government.
01:41US backing, most notably from billionaire Elon Musk, has also aided the resurgence of
01:48the far-right party.
