00:00Manchester City 4 Newcastle United 0 Yard, Leady Yard Stadium.
00:05Tonight, Liam, a non-contest. Would you agree with that?
00:10Overall thoughts?
00:11Yeah, I think so much can change about Newcastle United Football Club
00:14and every aspect that it operates.
00:17And some things just stay the same.
00:19They came to the Etihad today with altered expectations,
00:23probably among a lot in the fan base.
00:25Although, we drove down, you knew what I was saying,
00:28they did fancy they would get beat here today.
00:31Altered expectations, but the same results.
00:34Newcastle United came here, did not lay a glove on Manchester City,
00:39didn't get close to them, created one opportunity in 90 minutes.
00:43Now, that really isn't good enough.
00:45It really wasn't good enough today.
00:47But look, it's nothing new there.
00:50They come to this place and don't really ever challenge.
00:53It was, as you said, a non-contest.
00:56There'll be a lot of debate among the fan base.
00:58Did Eddie Howe get his team wrong?
01:00Was it just individual errors in a performance,
01:03not befitting of the team?
01:05I would argue that there are some trends in this team.
01:07I think in the calendar year, I think apart from the two amazing,
01:12and they were amazing, cup performances against Arsenal,
01:15I don't think this team is performing that well.
01:18Three defeats in four in the Premier League go to prove that.
01:21However, what I would say about the day is,
01:24Newcastle couldn't get the ball off Man City for the first 15 minutes,
01:28but they had them at arm's length.
01:30It was a little bit on edge,
01:32but I didn't really feel like they were absolutely knocking on the door.
01:36It's hard to criticise the approach.
01:40It's hard to also criticise when I looked at the team and the set-up,
01:43and I didn't really have too many complaints about it.
01:46However, by hindsight, Kieran Trippier as a third centre-half did not work.
01:49And when Kieran Trippier makes a mistake,
01:51which a schoolboy in some ways makes that mistake,
01:54to allow Manchester City in the game,
01:56and the whole context of everything that was going on changed,
01:59that system then becomes a problem.
02:01The set-up and approach then becomes a problem.
02:04And it all stemmed from an individual.
02:06Look, I'm not going to be the one to call out Kieran Trippier
02:08or single him out in any way.
02:10He made a mistake, he'll hold his hands up and say that, he's a big boy.
02:12Lewis Hall had a bad performance.
02:15That was a really poor, poor day for the lad,
02:18who's been excellent this season, but that was really poor.
02:21Fabian Scheer isn't the same player.
02:23Hasn't played well for quite some time, in my opinion.
02:25I thought Dan Byrne was fighting it,
02:27a lone cause in Newcastle,
02:29back four or five, depending on whether he had the ball or not.
02:32The midfield was ghost-like in appearance.
02:35I would probably say that was Sandro Tannoli's worst performance of the season.
02:39Tannoli's worst performance.
02:40Joel Willock may as well not have been playing at times in that game.
02:43But that happens, and that happens,
02:45especially in Newcastle Cup and places like this,
02:47that you need a compact midfield.
02:49And it actually spoke volumes, the fact that when Lewis Miley came on at half-time,
02:52albeit Newcastle were 3-0 down, Man City took the foot off the gas,
02:55but they looked a lot more, sort of,
02:57they had a better shape about them when Lewis Miley came on.
02:59They had a good shape, and they were better because they went back,
03:01they were kind of 4-3-3 for much of that second half.
03:04But really, was it not because Manchester City just took that foot off the pedal?
03:08Absolutely, yeah.
03:09I kind of felt that it was, and Miley got more opportunity.
03:12I didn't think it was Bruno's best day, he's probably had worse days,
03:15we've discussed that, but for Tannoli,
03:17it was a really disappointing performance in the front three.
03:19I thought Anthony Gordon, was he fit, was he not fit, who really knows?
03:22But I thought he was very wasteful.
03:24There was a couple of opportunities in that first half,
03:26at nil-nil.
03:27You had a great one to set, Alexander.
03:29One-nil down, that was one-all if you put Zizak in.
03:32And just didn't, he was just wasteful with the ball.
03:35You can't come to places like this and have too many of Newcastle United's players
03:38not turn up, and there was too many of them out there that didn't turn up.
03:41So for me, whether the manager got it right, got it wrong,
03:44whether the approach is there, whether it's not,
03:46whether it's a mentality thing, whatever,
03:48if you make individual errors like they did today,
03:51you will not get a result at most teams in the Premier League,
03:53never mind a place like this.
03:55And I think there's a little bit of complacency among people,
03:58I've seen a lot on social media.
04:00Right enough, look, it was probably the most fallible Manchester City
04:03that we've seen Newcastle United come to in many a year.
04:07However, at the start of the season, they were classed by many still
04:10as the team, the best team in world football.
04:13They've had a bad few months, they're still a bloody good team.
04:16And I think that could be massively overlooked.
04:18They can do that to any team.
04:19But I think the frustration is that Newcastle, from their point of view,
04:22didn't compete.
04:23Nope.
04:24But I think that's the big frustration from the fans' point of view is,
04:27look, Man City are still a top-class side,
04:29but you're at least expecting the Premier League to come and have a go.
04:31And every time they come here, they never have a go.
04:33Never have a go.
04:34I remember coming here at the start of last season when there was a lot of optimism,
04:36they beat Aston Villa on the opening day of the season.
04:38This is a chance to really get at Manchester City,
04:40and every time they come here, they stink their face out.
04:42In terms of attacking performance and defensively, as you mentioned,
04:45they had lots of errors.
04:46You could literally go over the last, I don't know,
04:48just off the top of my head, four or five games,
04:50they've created nothing.
04:52Nothing in any of those games.
04:54I think the best chance I can think of Newcastle creating in the last few years
04:57was Chris Wood missing a setter.
04:59All those years ago, was that a 5-0 loss?
05:01Yes.
05:02Chris Wood missing a setter, that was all I could think.
05:04You wouldn't miss it now, would you, the way he's playing?
05:06Not that I would have him back.
05:07But anyway, we'll digress.
05:09Look, I think it's one game.
05:10I don't think this makes Newcastle the worst team in the world.
05:13I don't think it suddenly means, because I've seen a lot of social media action,
05:16they're never going to get a result in a cup final.
05:19It doesn't necessarily mean that they were ever that good anyway.
05:22I think they're kind of all where they probably have been,
05:25and I think they do need a result now.
05:27I think you go to a Nottingham Forest game in eight days' time,
05:30you need a result.
05:31I think to not get a result in that game would start to show some trends,
05:36and the trends would be downward rather than upward,
05:39which would be concerning, going into arguably the biggest month
05:42this club has seen in a long time.
05:45Yes, I mean, they've lost a bit of ground today by losing here.
05:48I think that's probably overlooked, because it is Manchester City,
05:50but heading into the game, they'll level on points to each other.
05:53Obviously, Manchester City will open at advantage in that game next week.
05:55Nottingham Forest, if you lose that, you potentially,
05:57and I know there's a lot of games left,
05:59you're looking and thinking,
06:00actually, are we in a Champions League qualification race?
06:03Because two massive games, they've let one slip.
06:06I think they've got to go and get a result now next week
06:08after dropping points here today.
06:10Right.
06:11So, that was the analysis.
06:13We have got a little announcement, if you haven't seen it already,
06:16and you've managed to stay as long in this video
06:18and listened to our waffling at the Etihad,
06:20that we have got a WhatsApp channel,
06:22so we will put the link to the WhatsApp channel below this video
06:26on every platform that it's shared,
06:28so you can click on it and get these kind of videos
06:30if you like this kind of banter, you like this kind of crap,
06:32and this kind of analysis.
06:33Sometimes we do take it seriously.
06:35If you like that, then do click the link
06:37and get involved in the WhatsApp.
06:39There's lots of bits you'll see that we've put in from today,
06:42and it's only going to get more bigger and better as we move forward.
06:45I've got reviews from Charlie Bennett, who's not here today,
06:47Jordan, and myself, all the way throughout the season
