00:00We asked for an update on the state of Dengue in Quezon City from Dr. Rolly Cruz of the Quezon City Epidemiology and Surveillance Division.
00:08Good evening Dr. Rolly, this is Clayzel Parnilla of PTV.
00:12Good evening to you and to those who are listening to our program.
00:18Dr. Rolly, how is the state of Dengue cases in Quezon City? Has it increased or decreased following the declaration of the Dengue outbreak?
00:27We just had our declaration of the outbreak in Dengue.
00:31We were able to record from January 1st to February 14th, 1,769 cases of Dengue.
00:4210 of them died of Dengue.
00:50Dr. Rolly, what are we doing to stop the increase of Dengue cases?
00:57What is important now is to kill the adult mosquitoes.
01:03Our barangay, with the help of our sanidad,
01:10will have Dengue chemical spraying so we can kill the adult mosquitoes in the areas that have clusters of Dengue cases.
01:23That's the first thing we will do.
01:25Our health centers were open from earlier until tomorrow, not that day, we were open on the weekend
01:35for our people in Quezon City who are suffering from Dengue,
01:42to consult with our health centers and find out if this is Dengue or not.
01:51Dr. Rolly, for the sake of our countrymen,
01:55what are the symptoms of Dengue and how prepared are our hospitals in Quezon City?
02:02The first thing a patient will feel is that they will have a fever, especially children.
02:07Our parents need to know immediately not to ignore the fever of a child,
02:18especially those less than 10 years old.
02:21It starts with a fever, sometimes there is a headache, body aches,
02:29and sometimes abdominal pain.
02:35Those are the common warning signs of Dengue.
02:42That's why we urge parents, if your child is experiencing fever for one or two days,
02:49they should consult with our health center.
02:55Our health center has tests for Dengue.
03:00They just need to go there to see their child.
03:07This is free, there is no fee.
03:09Dr. Rolly, let me go back to how prepared our hospitals are
03:14and what are our steps in schools, especially there are many students there.
03:19Since yesterday, our hospitals have been talking.
03:26We have looked at the available resources.
03:30Our hospitals are ready to accept patients with fever.
03:35We have a fever express lane.
03:39We will prioritize cases with fever to see if it is Dengue.
03:48Our schools have issued a memo,
03:53our schools division's office,
03:56that there will be a regular Dengue activity in our schools.
04:04We also encourage children to wear long clothes
04:11to avoid the bite of mosquitoes.
04:15They will have clean-up drives in our schools.
04:24All right. Thank you very much, Dr. Rolly Cruz.
