In almost a replay of their previous game against Kolkata Knight Riders, champions Mumbai Indians throttled Sunrisers Hyderabad by 13 runs to win their second match in a row in Chennai.

00:00There are two things. Of course, I'm happy, Matt. One is Mumbai has won.
00:03And secondly, Sunrisers are finding different ways to lose.
00:14Hi, guys. And welcome to Straight Back with Anas Sajjad, Mr. Cricket, UAE and Gulf News.
00:20We had a crazy cricket match again tonight. And we're going to go straight over to Anas
00:26and see what he's got to say.
00:27Hi, Matt. And hi, everybody else. Before I throw light upon the match,
00:33make sure to log on to your favorite page, Gulf News, and predict the winner every day.
00:37And you walk away with this beautiful jacket, two winners every day and three months of subscription.
00:42Matt.
00:44Yes. And obviously, Mumbai win again. You must be a happy guy.
00:49But there are two things. Of course, I'm happy, Matt. One is Mumbai has won. And secondly,
00:53Sunrisers are finding different ways to lose. They dominate probably 70% of the match.
00:58And in 30%, Mumbai find ways. Now, when I say find ways, this is the sign of a good team
01:03whose batting in the middle is not doing well. But as soon as they are given a window of opportunity,
01:09they make sure that they don't let the opposition come back and take the game in their hands and
01:13finish the game. Cool.
01:16Well, I will confess that my connection lost halfway through tonight's match. So I'm going
01:21to go over straight to Gautam because he watched a lot more of the match than I did.
01:26Sunrisers' chances, David Warner got 36, JB got 43. Gautam, how do you think
01:34Sunrisers' chances were? And how do you think they fared?
01:40Yeah, I think it was a similar story to what happened with the Kolkata Knight Riders the
01:44other day. But I found this win a little more convincing to that extent that, you know,
01:55two guys like Johnny Bairstow and David Warner, they gave the team, they were 67 for one. KKR
02:03were even better at one stage. But then, you know, the way they dismantled the Sunrisers'
02:11batting line and the thin middle overs with again bringing Rahul Chahar. And then lastly,
02:19Trent Boult and Jasprit Bumrah. I mean, these two guys, when they come back for those five
02:24overs or four overs, they become extremely difficult to get away whoever the batsman is.
02:30So I would like to ask a question to Naeem. I think he's a Mumbai fan. So Naeem, I mean,
02:37isn't it becoming almost boring? What do you think?
02:42Naeem is one of our competition winners, I think. And he's one of the guys is one of these just by
02:48logging in on their Facebook. Just to say that Naeem, welcome. Sorry, we didn't say that at
02:54the beginning. No, no, that's absolutely fine. Thank you so much. I would like to tell all the
03:00viewers of Gulf News, firstly, go on to the page, participate in the contest. And you can also stand
03:05a chance to win like this lovely jacket, which I've got, which I shall be wearing, hopefully,
03:10soon. And I'll be uploading a video like Mr. Cricket and Gulf News on it. It's like a beautiful
03:14jacket, like the orange color, orange and blue. So coming on to your question, more than boring,
03:22okay. We because when you when you're supporting a team like Mumbai, it like Mumbai, you know,
03:27for a fact, the team, it is very difficult to beat. You know, for a fact, even if they are
03:33in a losing position, they once, as Mr. Anish said, if they get a window, they just pull this,
03:37but they pull the match completely towards their side. And today, everyone would be talking about
03:44how Bumrah and Trent Bowles specially bowled in the last four overs. But for me, you know,
03:50the player who you know, who played or had more similar kind of impact and which people won't be
03:55talking about would be Rahul Chahar. He did the same thing again in the match against Kolkata,
04:00where he picked up four wickets. And today, he picked up three wickets. He picked up wickets.
04:04He picked up the wickets of Manish Pandey, then Dadwira. You know, picking up such wickets and,
04:09you know, getting these players out, added some additional pressure towards the end on
04:15Shankar and Samad. I'll come back to Anish with this. See Anish, why I say that, you know,
04:24I find this one more convincing is, you know, this wicket was not that difficult to bat on.
04:30You needed that particular skill set, keep the singles going and then look for the odd boundaries,
04:35etc. So this is where, you know, and as you said, at the beginning that their middle order had not
04:42been doing well. But it had not Kieran Pollard got into the act, they wouldn't have crossed 150.
04:49So this is the hallmark of a good team that if it's required, you win ugly to use a
04:56football balance. So they do it so well, Anish. What's your take about it?
05:03That's what is the greatness about this Mumbai side that they find ways to win. Now, I've always
05:08believed and I keep repeatedly saying that we all feel that T20 is the slam-bound cricket there
05:14where you need to hit sixes and fours. But on wickets like Chennai, even though this one was
05:19not that difficult, you need players like the guys like Williamson, the Virat Kohli, the Babar Azam,
05:24who can probably take singles and doubles and doubles and triples and make sure that you keep
05:29the run rate under control. You cannot just go out of the park and hit. This is not that wicket.
05:35And when the bowler is smart enough, he will get you caught at the long, big boundary.
05:38So the most important thing, which I'm afraid Hyderabad has not learned in this last three
05:43games, they built a platform, Warner and Bastrod gave them the platform, but the middle order is
05:48not able to finish the game. They're going for the glory shots rather than going for the single
05:52and double. Because in the end, 10 runs is easy to get rather than getting 17 and 18.
06:01About Hyderabad, one little question to Nish. See, we had always praised Hyderabad for
06:07the way they go about their job without a fuss. They do buying where they need to fill in the
06:13gaps. But this time, I find them a little arbitrary. I mean, two matches, you're trying
06:20to open along with Warner. When it didn't work, you're getting your top two batsmen there.
06:26But at number four and number five, you've got Virat Singh and Abhishek Sharma. I mean,
06:33what kind of a middle order is this? You didn't even have Jason Holder there in the lower order.
06:39Had he been there with Vijay Shankar, he could have at least gone for the big shot.
06:45So how far do you really see them going? I mean, unless Williamson comes back?
06:52Well, definitely, they have to get Williamson. It will be difficult to accommodate Jason Roy
06:56unless they drop Bairstow. But that doesn't look like, because they have Rashid is assured.
07:01Warner being the captain has to play. Johnny Bairstow has been doing well. So the only slot
07:06for the fourth foreign player is for Williamson. That is what they have to play. They have Holder,
07:10they have Jason Roy, they have Nabi. So if you want to control the innings, as you said,
07:15that the guy who needs to finish the game because the middle order is weak, they need a player like
07:18Williamson who's nursing a shoulder injury. The moment he comes back, I wouldn't be surprised.
07:23He will be playing for the Sunrisers. And if they have to win games on difficult tracks,
07:28where the guys like the Summers and the Abhisheks or the Vijay Shankars cannot play the big shots,
07:32they need players like Williamson who can control the games and finish the games for them.
07:37Okay. And can I just bring Naeem back in if that's possible? Naeem, what do you think? I mean,
07:42obviously, I mean, this doesn't affect your team, but you're up against these teams and week in,
07:51week out. I mean, God, every other day you're playing. Do you feel that when you watch some
08:00team fail and some team succeeds, does it give you hope or does it give you
08:07warning as to how it does for your team? It gives you both. You can be alerted by some
08:17other team's performance, especially on this wicket. Okay. You have been seeing results.
08:21Like for example, I guess today the team batting for the first time won. So you can understand the
08:26nature of the pitch, but again, you know, as far as when you look at Mumbai Indians,
08:30okay, they play as a team. Okay. Today, for example, if the likes of Surya Kumar and Ishan
08:37Kumar didn't fire, but you had Pollard to take care towards the end. So they work as a team.
08:43Like if you see, this is the strongest team in this league, where at all positions, you will
08:49find players and their backups who are on the bench, who can do the job if given an opportunity.
08:54Similarly, today, that was missing, I guess, with Sunrisers Hyderabad.
09:01And then if we were to talk about, obviously, if you look at, obviously,
09:06failing again, but Warner still scored heavily. Is he going to think that he is,
09:16I don't know, choosing the wrong team? He's still scoring heavily, but he's not getting any wins.
09:22SRH are not doing anything this season.
09:25So see, again, again, it is similar to what I feel the situation with Virat Kohli at Royal
09:31Challenge in Bangalore. He's performing well, but his team is not winning. But he's still
09:35performing for his team, with an hope that he'll win a title. But Hyderabad has won it once.
09:41So hopefully things might change for them also.
09:44All right. I think Gautam might have something to say about that.
09:48No, I think we will actually move on to Sunday. I mean, this Sunday.
09:57He doesn't want to talk about RCB and Kohli.
10:01No, I mean, I look forward because there is still a fair bit to talk about.
10:08Two very good games and I will bring Kohli there. Because tomorrow you've got RCB playing KKR in the
10:15first game. So RCB on a high after two wins. And KKR will need to shrug off their
10:23disappointment against Mumbai. That's your first game. And the second game, of course, is what we
10:29call a North Indian Derby with it's Delhi versus Punjab. So two teams have just come off a loss,
10:39I think. Yes. So my first question to Anish will be that, you know, RCB versus KKR,
10:47what do you think is going to happen? Well, obviously, KKR will be disappointed.
10:53And their confidence must have been dented after their loss to Mumbai. And whereas RCB, who has
10:58come on two wins from a losing position, rather, and against Mumbai, they were chasing and then
11:05AB De Villiers bailed them out. And against Sunrisers, the same thing happened what happened
11:09today. So Virat must be happy. And what important point which we discussed in the show was,
11:14they are getting firepower in Maxwell this time. So definitely you will back Virat Kohli's team
11:20against KKR. But mind you, KKR has a very strong bowling attack. It's the batting which puts them
11:26into trouble. Well, Naeem, what about Delhi versus Punjab? It's the North Indian Derby,
11:37as I said. Delhi couldn't fire in the previous game. So did Punjab, but of course, they were
11:42done in by Chahar. So what do you think? So I still feel it will be like a very tight game,
11:48because both the teams are they want to prove a point because Punjab last season played well.
11:54Now again, if you see, Punjab is still completely dependent on KL Rahul when it comes to their
11:58batting. And Huda played a match. But whereas Delhi also, they have players who have been
12:04chipping here and there. I don't think so other than Shikhar Dhawan, someone else has played
12:09an inning that you know you can talk about. So it could be a tight game of both the teams where
12:14they're trying to prove a point and get a win.
12:17Well, what I think is now that we're one week in,
12:29I guess most teams, I mean, obviously Mumbai Indians have had the shell shock against RCB.
12:36RCB are flying high. They've never won it. And no offence, but they're probably not going to
12:41win it this season. I think that it's just my opinion, I'm sorry. But I think that
12:50it's going to be really tight as it always is. It's going to be really tight. And
12:56I don't think it's going to be, you know, like anybody's going to run away with it. I think that
13:03the things that you might see is like you might see a star batsman, you might see a star bowler,
13:08but the teams below, when it comes right down to the playoffs,
13:12we're going to see it come right down to the last couple of matches.
13:19Anas, do you agree with that? Just before we wrap up?
13:23Well, yes. You know, it's going to come down to small margins, but I just want to say with a big
13:28heart, not because I'm only a Mumbai Indian fan. The question on everybody's mind is that how do
13:33you beat the big daddy? I repeat, how do you beat the big daddy Mumbai Indians?
13:37Rest all franchises will have to do their homework well. They might beat them in a one-off game,
13:42but to win the tournament, they will have to get all the aces up to beat the big daddy.
13:49Wow. I cannot wait to see Mumbai Indians, Anas. I cannot wait to see.
13:55How do you come back to this?
13:57It is like seven teams playing for 59 days just to meet Mumbai Indians in the finals.
14:03Well said, Naeem. You're spot on.
14:11Good luck, Mr. Jeet, for tomorrow's game against RCB.
14:14Yeah. I'm a little more hopeful than what I was against Mumbai, to be very honest.
14:21But we'll see. Yeah. And it's a day game. It's the first day game.
14:26It should be fun.
14:27Okay, guys. We'll wrap it up. Tomorrow, we've got a doubleheader. We've got
14:32RCB against KKR and we've got Delhi Capitals against Punjab. We will be here again tomorrow
14:39evening just to wrap up both games. And we'll see. I mean, there's going to be a lot to dissect
14:45tomorrow night, I think, guys. But as they say, don't forget to log into our Facebook page and
14:52don't forget to say who you think is going to win each match for your chance to win
14:58one of these lovely tops and also to win a three-month Golf News subscription.
15:05And we shall see you tomorrow for more of the same. Thanks, guys.
15:10Ta-ta. Bye-bye.
15:12Thank you, everybody. Thank you, Naeem.
15:14See you again.
15:15Bye-bye, Jeet.
15:15Bye.
15:16Bye, Naeem.
15:16Bye.
15:17Bye, guys.
