00:00First came the self-checkout counters.
00:05Now, UAE's retail sector is seeing robots work in sync with their human counterparts
00:10to sort through incoming orders and have them ready for delivery.
00:14So much change is happening in such a short time span,
00:17as the retail industry keeps making more adjustments to COVID-19 contactless shopping and payments.
00:23At the heart of this is the relentless push towards digital solutions and AI.
00:28So how do the robots make their presence felt?
00:31Once an order streams in, the center utilizes AI to put orders together from the storage area.
00:37Autonomous mobile robots come to the assistance of their human colleagues to pick up the items
00:42and at the same time ensure that stocks are kept at optimum levels.
00:46All incoming orders are processed in a small matter of five minutes,
00:49and that helps cut down the average time between order placement and dispatch by half.
00:55This time gain means that the team can process and send out up to 200 orders every hour.
01:00The center will come to the help of online orders coming from communities
01:04in the immediate vicinity of the Ibn Battuta mall.
01:08Retailers realize that the majority of new customers who bought online in 2020 are sticking around.
01:13They may have reduced the volume of online purchases,
01:16but they are not in the mood to go for a complete halt.
01:19As with everything related to consumers and their ways,
01:21going online and filling up the virtual cart is a habit.
01:24Once that's done, the robots can do the rest in putting the order together.
