Sharjah then and now: Arada CEO explains emirate’s path to the future

In 1971, the city was renowned for having the region’s first outdoor cinema, the sikkas (alleyways) in Al Khan and the first motor track in the country that was built as early as 1935, which ran from Sharjah all the way to Ras Al Khaimah. 00:00Sharjah is a hidden gem. We've always believed in that and that's one of the reasons why we

00:07first started our developments in Sharjah because we've always said it's a hidden gem.

00:12But if I want to elaborate further I would say it's exciting, there's plenty of things to discover,

00:20it's progressive which people might think how's that because you know it's got so much culture

00:26but yes it does but at the same time it's very forward-thinking and there are many

00:31things that we'll discuss that it's doing which is thinking about the future.

00:39This is the time to be in Sharjah if you're talking about being a resident or working or

00:45a visitor. Now Sharjah is developing in many fronts if we talk about the entrepreneurial space

00:53with the likes of Shira who's doing an amazing job with the incubating entrepreneurs.

00:58If you talk about Sharjah Research Innovation Technology Park, a bit of a mouthful, which

01:05has created a nice environment for those industries to set up base.

01:12If we go into tourism which has always, Sharjah's always carved its special niche

01:19section within tourism for itself but it's also developing new areas like the likes of

01:26the opening of the Kurfa Khan amphitheatre or the House of Wisdom and many more. Sharjah

01:32actually has been booming the last few years even in the backdrop of a pandemic

01:39they've seen strong numbers. For example Q1 this year they've posted 85% growth compared to last

01:48year. Ourselves, we are also posting great numbers. We've been growing since we've launched

01:55Arada at an average of 30% every year. During the pandemic we've had our best numbers and

02:04this year as well we've posted over 50% growth in our first quarter. So there's a lot of things

02:11happening in Sharjah, it's definitely an exciting time to be in Sharjah and it's respectful. It's

02:17definitely one of the safest places to raise a family, to study or to visit.
