00:00Good day and welcome to the Gulf News Update for Tuesday, March the 20th.
00:06Here are the top stories at this hour.
00:10Skilled workers, both Emirati and expatriates, can now enter a multiple employer contract
00:16after obtaining approval of the Ministry of Human Resources and Emiratization, according
00:22to a new ministerial decision.
00:25Under the decision, companies can recruit skilled workers, holders of university degrees
00:30or higher, and those who have completed their diploma in any field, from inside the country
00:36or overseas, under part-time contracts.
00:40This will allow these workers to take several part-time jobs without approval of the original
00:46or other employers.
00:48The new system is implemented alongside the existing system, which allows employers and
00:53workers to establish a normal business relationship under fixed-term or indefinite contracts.
01:02Facebook shares plunged as the social media giant was pounded by criticism at home and
01:07abroad over revelations that a firm working for Donald Trump's presidential campaign harvested
01:14and misused data on 50 million members.
01:18Calls for investigations came on both sides of the Atlantic after Facebook responded to
01:23explosive reports of misuse of its data by suspending the account of Cambridge Analytica,
01:30a British firm hired by Trump's 2016 campaign.
01:35The Weinstein Company filed for bankruptcy protection with a buyout offer in hand from
01:40a private equity firm, the latest twist in its efforts to survive the sexual misconduct
01:46scandal that brought down co-founder Harvey Weinstein, shook Hollywood and triggered a
01:52movement that spread out to Kahnwald's other industries.
01:56The company also announced it was releasing any victims of or witnesses to Weinstein's
02:02alleged misconduct from non-disclosure agreements, preventing them from speaking out.
02:09And finally the weather, today's high across the UAE will be 29 degrees Celsius dropping
02:14to 17 degrees at night.
02:16That's all for now, thanks for watching and as always you can get the latest news at gulfnews.com
