00:00Good day, welcome to the Gulf News Update for Monday December 18th. Here are the top
00:06stories at this hour.
00:08Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's party is set to return to power in his home state
00:12in an election considered to be a bellwether before the national vote in early 2019. The
00:18ruling Bharatiya Janata Party was leading in more than 100 seats in the 182-seat Gujarat
00:23legislature according to early trends. That's more than 92 needed for majority, though this
00:29would be the BJP's lowest tally in more than two decades. The main opposition Congress
00:34party was ahead in 73 seats in an improved performance.
00:38Manchester City will hold talks with manager Pep Guardiola at the end of this season about
00:42extending his three-year contract. Convincing the 46-year-old to sign a new contract would
00:47top the agenda at the next end-of-season review traditionally held by City chairman Khaldun
00:52Al Mubarak. Liverpool coach Jurgen Klopp said City will be almost impossible to catch at
00:56the top of the Premier League.
00:58Star Wars The Last Jedi will happily settle for second. Rian Johnson's second instalment
01:03in the third Star Wars trilogy rocketed to a debut $220 million at the North American
01:08box office. That gives The Last Jedi the second-best opening ever, slotting in behind only its
01:14predecessor The Force Awakens.
01:16And finally, the weather today is high across the UAE with 23 degrees Celsius dropping to
01:2018 degrees at night. That's all for now, thank you for watching. As always, you can get the
