00:00Good day, welcome to the Gulf News Update for Thursday, October 20.
00:06Here are the top stories at this hour.
00:08Turning his final presidential debate appearance into an assault on US political convention,
00:13Donald Trump refused to say that he would respect a Hillary Clinton victory in November.
00:18As the last encounter of the toxic 2016 campaign descended into mudslinging on Wednesday, the
00:23Republican mogul doubled down on claims that Clinton supporters planned to rig the vote.
00:27The Democratic contender declared herself appalled by what she said was an attack on
00:32240 years of US democracy.
00:35A fragile ceasefire took effect in war-ravaged Yemen just before midnight last night under
00:39a United Nations plan.
00:41This is the sixth attempt to end a bloodshed since a Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened
00:45in March 2015 to support the government of President Abdel Rabbo Mansour Hadi.
00:50Shortly after the truce began, the coalition issued a statement saying it will abide by
00:54the ceasefire but will continue an air and maritime embargo.
00:58Iraqi special forces charged into the Mosul battle today with a pre-dawn advance on a
01:03nearby town held by Daesh, a key part of the multi-pronged assault on the besieged city.
01:07The addition of the elite troops marked a significant intensification of the fight for
01:12Iraq's second-largest city, as the advanced attack helicopters fired on the militants
01:16and heavy gunfire echoed across the plains.
01:19Increased job cuts in private and public sectors have taken a toll on Abu Dhabi's property
01:23market which continued to tumble in both rents and sale prices in the third quarter
01:28of this year.
01:29According to the latest report by JLL, average prime rents for two-bedroom apartments fell
01:336% compared to 2015, to around dirhams 157,000 per annum.
01:40If you think making the trek from your couch to the bathroom in the middle of a Netflix
01:43binge is tiring, try wading through pools of ice, narrowly avoiding live electrical
01:48wires and running across mud pits of doom all spread across a 10 or 20 kilometre course.
01:53Welcome to the world of obstacle course trading, now one of the fastest growing sports in the
01:57world.
01:58Tough Mudder, one of the biggest global events in endurance racing, makes its Middle East
02:01debut in Dubai later this year, joining a growing list of similar events in the UAE.
02:07And finally, the weather today is high across the UAE, with 32 degrees Celsius dropping
02:11to 25 at night.
02:12That's all for now, thank you for watching.
