00:51Chancellor Angela Merkel interrupted her vacation to face down accusations at home and abroad
00:57that her open-door refugee policy allowed terrorism to take hold in Germany. Merkel
01:01returns to Berlin to hold a news conference after a spate of attacks since July 18 left
01:0615 people dead, including four attackers and dozens injured. To assailants, a Syrian asylum
01:12seeker and a refugee from either Pakistan or Afghanistan had links to Islamist militancy,

01:19A much-depleted Russian team has departed for the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, missing
01:24dozens of athletes who were excluded amid the country's doping scandal. More than 100
01:29athletes from what was originally a 387-strong team have been barred from competing in Rio
01:35by international sports federations under sanctions which most Russian athletes consider
01:40unfair.
